Hi all, Firstly as far as I can tell this is only happening on one of my W2K8R2 DC Servers but it's annoying as hell! It's the DC at my remote site and I can't add MSI's to Group Polices on it. Basically the problem is described in this KB article You cannot create a software installation Group Policy setting on a read-only domain controller in Windows Server 2008 R2. I also get these two eventvwr entries when trying to add MSI's to GPs. Log Name: Application Source: Software Installation Date: 02/02/2011 16:16:10 Event ID: 103 Task Category: None Level: Error Keywords: Classic User: N/A Computer: ASH100.ashford.CSCo.Org.UK Description: Software Installation failed to deploy package 2Know!_Toolbar_2.0_Win.msi. The following error was encountered: No package in the software installation data in the Active Directory meets this criteria. Log Name: Application Source: Software Installation Date: 02/02/2011 16:16:10 Event ID: 105 Task Category: None Level: Error Keywords: Classic User: N/A Computer: ASH100.ashford.CSCo.Org.UK Description: Software Installation was unable to add the package 2Know! Toolbar to the DS. The following error was encountered: No package in the software installation data in the Active Directory meets this criteria. This happens with all Software I try to add via GP with an MSI on the server. So there is me thinking the DC is read only, I didn't want to apply the hotfix but thought I would read into this read only stuff! I found out how to see whether it is read only see attached and clearly it isn't. The attached picture shows which DC I connect to from my machine to manage GPs and it shows all are of them are read/write. And strangely enough I can connect to ASH100 (Which is the problem server) and it works from my machine but not direct on the server. Anyone have a similar problem? Thanks

Just in case any one else has this problem I found out that a certain someone had added a plugin which broke the site. I removed them all from C:\Inetpub\www\wpblog\wp-content\plugins which got the site working and then re-added one by one until and found the bad egg!

Dear all, Please help! We run moodle at a school I work at and up until Christmas it was working fine. I'm not completely familiar with WordPress as my old network manager installed it but I have since he left upgraded it to 3.0.1 so I know bit and pieces. However I don't even know where to start with this one! Firstly the VLE is working fine so I don't think there is much if anything up with IIS (On a W2K3 box). Normally you sign in to our VLE (Moodle) and then you can click on the Blog admin link which forwards you to https://domainname/wpblog/wp-admin but I get nothing, just a typical HTTP 500 Internal Server error The website cannot display the page HTTP 500 Most likely causes: •The website is under maintenance. •The website has a programming error. I have since opened IIS gone to the wpblog/wp-admin folder and right clicked on admin.php and get the same thing, which is what I get for most files if I try to browse them. However if I right click and browse on readme.html, phpinfo.php or install.php I get the page display fine. Does anyone have any idea why this would be happening? Thanks FB

In the folder that the program installed to there should be a folder called scripts (On mine C:\Program Files (x86)\Skeep\Skeep VNC Console\scripts) you need to apply the scripts to run on a OU that the machines are in on logoff and logon via a GP, can't remember what you do with the ADschema script file tho :s As far as I know it works fine on Win XP machines not sure about Win 7/Vista

No worries... I have done it and it worked, the only thing that didn't was the adding a button script thing you put in the code above (Unless I can't see the button, where should it be?) I change the "outlook_send_all" to the name of the subroutine "EmailWithOutlook" but no luck with that part. Not the end of the world I added a quick access button to the macro and that works fine it seems. Where should the button be added out of interest though? Thanks

I think I have created the addin ok...(Not tested it yet!) but can't work out how to add it (DOH) gone to excel options > Trust center settings... > but than can't find a place to add it. I can see a place to add the trust location but not add the actual add-in!

Hi all, I have found a cool little macro to e-mail individual worksheets inside a workbook, here: Sending Just a Worksheet via E-mail. I have managed to save the vb macro to a workbook but what I really want to do for a staff member is save the macro in excel not the workbook so its available in any workbook she opens! Is this possible? She tells me this option used to be available to her but the staff member that did this has long since left and I can't see how you would do this! Thanks FB

Hi all, I'm trying to connect a HP iPAQ to a wireless network using NPS PEAP 802.1x, when I try I get the below the msgs: Warning: Cannot log on to the wireless network. This network requires a personal certificate to positively identify you. and Server Validation Error: The server certificate is issued by an unknown authority. So basically from what I gather from this is that it can't import the cert for the server because its from a unknown authority. I heard you can install certificates on windows mobile so could that be my way round? Only problem is how do you export the cert from NPS? I have looked and can't find a way. Or is there a better way of doing this? Thanks FB

Could someone answer a question for me please... The school I'm at wants to get a couple and I was thinking of getting the Wifi version but does the wifi settings allow you to put in a proxy server? otherwise I won't be able to connect it to the net! Thanks

Right I managed to login and change the res so I can see the whole screen now but the mouse still captures within the session having to press crtl+alt+left cross to release (Which it doesn't on the other VM's, you can just use the mouse within the window without capturing). It wouldn't be a massive problem but once the mouse is captured it disappears on the screen and you can't see it until you release with crtl+alt+left cross how do you disable this setting?

Hi all, I have a strange problem with one of my virtual servers. Its installed on a 2008R2 core server running Hyper V and when opening the server from the Hyper-V Manager I can only see about quarter of the screen (See attached). I can't expand the screen size and the session captures my mouse (having to press crtl+alt+left cross to release), all other servers installed work fine and the mouse doesn't get captured to the screen but works. I can't see any settings on this problem server that are different to the others (5 other Virtual servers work fine!) Under file settings it says integration services are installed so I don't think that is the problem. It bound to be a silly little setting somewhere thats causing it but I can't find it can anyone help? Thanks FB

Unable to extract deployment information from the package. Run validation on the package to ensure that the package is correct" The config.xml I'm trying to use with it is: Which I think is correct but in the eventvwr I have found the error: Log Name: Application Source: MsiInstaller Date: 30/09/2010 16:20:53 Event ID: 10005 Task Category: None Level: Error Keywords: Classic User: domain\user Computer: ASH000.domain.Org.UK Description: Product: Microsoft Office Proofing Kit 2007 -- Error 25004. Installation of this product requires operating system supplemental language support. But I can't find anything on this error msg, can anyone help? Thanks FB

Right.... I stopped the service, moved the 4 files above out of the C:\squid\var\logs folder to a different folder and restarted all ok and it recreated the files. When the service was stopped I also moved the folders/files from the C:\squid\var\cache folder as well but the service wouldn't restart until I put them back, should I remove these? If so what do I need to leave in there so the service will restart? Anyway the server is running now I'll see if it running any better and check those log files in a bit. Any other tips from anyone appreciated

I guess I can stop the squid.exe service in windows clear the logs (or move them to another area just in case I need them) and then start the service again right?

Dear all, Just wondering if anyone has any advice they could offer on the up keep of squid? I have a 2008R2 server running on the student VLAN which forwards all web requests on to our main IAS server on the default VLAN via squid. Unfortunately this was setup by my predecessor and I have no knowledge of squid. It was all working fine but lately it has been dropping request as far as I can tell (See attached) at peak times when all the boarders go back to there rooms to surf the web. I have had a look at the other posts about squid on here and heard that you can clear the log files but am unsure on the best way of doing this. On the following post Squid problems - The redirector helpers are crashing too rapidly, need help! at says about the cache.log and I have found the folder which this file is in and have listed the files below, some look really big should they be cleared? access.log - 4GB Cache.log - 97MB squid.pid 1KB store.log 12GB!!!!!!!!!! Is this right? Any other stuff I should be checking? Thanks FB

Hi all, Just thought I would let you know its resolved It was sure a silly little problem in the end as most are when something that was working suddenly stops. I wasn't getting anything in the security or NPS logs about NPS connections so that made me think that the APs weren't even connecting to the server. For some reason the APs which are 3com Airconnect 9550 set them self's back to a previous state maybe from a power cut or something. The problem was I move the radius server sometime back from one server to another with the Ip address only changing from 10.140.1.1 to 10.140.1.0. The old setting was on the APs and were it was so similar I just didn't see it straight away!

I don't know I couldn't find anywhere where I could view the the cert. I took a look at this NPS Server Migration: Verifying the Migration under "Verifying authentication methods" but couldn't find how to view the cert. Here is a screen shot of what I found:
