Does this also happens when you restart you computer and login. Because it may look like windows is still hanging on that file for some reason when you try to re-login. It could be a number of factors. If I got something working I don't touch what ain't broken because I might end up fix what ain't broken that then turns broken.

I have been developing an Intranet System and found Chrome causing problems and lack of functionality than other browsers. I found Chrome is very light weighted. Most businesses use IE because it work well with their windows infrastructure requirement. hmm. I found User DATA in local settings/application data folder in XP. I can't really remember but if that is excluded in GP with roaming profiles.

I have issues with my sound as well but only happens when something triggered it which still unknown on my Windows 7 Pro Laptop. I usually fix that bu restarting windows or window audio service. If re installing your sound card drivers then I might think that your sound card is faulty. It could be a virus messing with parts of your system. <- I am just guessing.

I assume you using login script to do these under group policy as that is what I know how you can do it in GP so far. If so what kind of script you are using?

I find this very funny. Guys it not the shortcut is the problem is where it is being placed. It all depends on what kind of network structure you have. For example do you use mandatory profile, then you can place that shortcut on desktop on that profile and it get to every teacher. Another thing what kind of desktop folder redirection you use. That is another important question because I use Folder Redirection where each user have their own desktop redirected. I hope that helps. I am more than happy to supply more areas to look at.

I remember a problem that I couldn't shutdown computers remotely because of windows firewall. That is one place you can look. Another option if it is possible is reimage the machine which is the easy way out. But that option doesn't work for some IT networks.

Simply set the permission on the printer share to everyone if that answers your question. Their other groups you can use but i am not near my server check it.

I am just guessing here. Mixed Windows Domain controllers with server 2003 and 2008. Their can be a lot of factors that i can spit ball around

I see a lot of good responses. But I need to point out one thing. Windows server 2008 R2 and windows 7. This requires extra planning and research by what i know it can not be a straight walk in the park because some software might not work or configration setting been deprcated or update compared on how you use to do things.

I haven't worked with DFS, but I know what it is used for. The question you got ask yourself is DFS Replication working between servers. If yes then you don't need to worry about the firewall. Turn on the firewall you do that on the LAN connection on the server and not sure if DFS is added the list automatically so you might need to add it. But windows firewall can not work if you have ip routing active. Regards, Patrick

If it was the PC itself then we could use this cool program that must be execute from command prompt. I keep forgetting the name of that one. However, you are stuck with event viewer unless you installed logging software on your network. I have done this sort of thing before and can work on very small scale and when all computers are off. Maybe restrict the time-frame will help narrow down and what type of event ID you are looking for. Might I suggest you bolt down the PC's to the desk. I have helped someone in the past with that. Thats the way to stop future thefts.

I had a lab with windows 7 enterprise and windows 2003 network which had roaming profiles which some users get loaded with a temporary profiles. Never figured out the problem. This takes ages to load up. I had a look in the registry location and you need to know what sids to delete.

When you apply group polices depending on the settings you have to logoff and login to make it affective straight away, even a reboot can help as well.

I have the same problem. I just turn off the redirects because i don't need them. But I can say this that the window 6.x versions sucks. Windows XP was way better. Now we have to start again fix a whole lot of new things all over again.

Windows Servers has full support with their Microsoft Exchange server product regarding what you want.

I think VMware has some support linux for VPS. I know they did on the old Server editions they did.

In my personal opinion. If things that work fine then, DON'T FIX WHAT AINT BROKEN!
