Installing Windows XP on mid-late 2011 Apple Hardware (Drivers included are for Late 2011 iMac12,1) Step 1) You will need Windows XP Disc (I used XP SP3) and the new windows 7 bootcamp disc, bootcamp assistant will ask you if you want to download this, do so. Also you will need a wired usb mouse and keyboard. Step 2) Follow bootcamp as normal, and follow the xp install through. Step 3) Once installed, you will have no drivers and no support for keyboard and mouse, so plug in your wired keyboard and mouse in. Now use the drivers I have provided. I installed them in this order; Chipset Keyboard + Mouse (found on the downloaded bootcamp cd) Lan Wifi Firewire Facetime Audio HD Audio VGA (had lots of trouble with this, ended up going to nvidia website to download correct graphics driver, also it would not work running their installer, so extracted driver and installed via device manager) After this I tested and tested, because you don’t actually have bootcamp installed, you lose the functionality and options that gives you, put because we use bootpicker and osx and the default OS it hasn’t made any difference. As XP is not designed to work on this hardware, I haven’t found anything that hasn’t worked, but I cant guarantee everything will work for you. Once I was happy, I imaged using deploystudio. Hi, We have elmo l12 visualisers, and they simply plug in, and connect to pc via usb, and show what you need to on the pc, and because your pcs are connected to the smartboard on there as well. We had them for the same reason, with these, it only takes up one plus and one usb, no vga. So no messing around for staff.

It took a lot of trial and error, i tired many different ways, and ended up rebuilding the bootcamp several times before i got the right drivers and installed everything in the right order, needless to say though i will be waiting for us to move to windows 7 before i buy any more apple hardware. I am just preparing a guide as we speak, should hopefully get it posted tonight with drivers etc

If this is for one member of staff to use only, our staff have added their own apple id's and they claim back the apps they bought for work. For school use, we have a school account setup, but they do require a card on file, i don't like it but as far as i know, there isn't a way round it

Cheers mate, it was the time re-added the dc as the time server and all is well again, pretty sure it was the update that reset the time server back to apple though!! Thanks for your help!

Hi, I was about to start some work updating and configuring a few bits when i was checking out members of my user groups only to be greeted by 'not found' and on further inspection trying to browse the AD structure i was presented with this error - see attachment The only thing that has changed in the last few months was the update to 10.7.3, which i believe included some fixes to some integration issues, but it seems to have completely broken it for me. Anyone else had this issue?? or could it be something else thats caused this?

Will be more interesting when they annouce features of the server edition, client wise it seems nice to bring those tools in from iOS, but from an education point of view, just more things to remove and lock down. I hope the server edition fills the wholes left by lion server.

Hi, Ive got a macbook, that was used in school, but now a member of staff wants to use it mostly from home, which for others we have used both in school and at home without issue, simply changing network location to connect to either, but i have one macbook that when connecting to anything other then the schools wireless wont connect to the internet, and continues to look for proxy settings, ive removed all proxy settings from the schools network location, so the mac should not remember them. but in workgroup manager ive got the network preferences setup with the proxy settings in there, it is the only place i thought the mac could still be getting those settings from, even though on this macbook i deleted all network locations and started from scratch. So i finally decided to unbind it from the mac server, although the problem is still on going???? my question is how did i remove any trace of any proxy settings from this macbook, it can no longer contact the server for its settings, there not specified locally either, but it still wont connect to this persons router at home, and gives the error "cannot find proxy server". This has been goin on for a while now, and im out of ideas, so any help would be great Regards

Is this where your deploy studio stores its images, a good 20-30g image done a couple of times will sure burn up all that free space!! Log into DS and see in masters how many images you've got and how big they are, this is of course assuming they are stored on the drive where the space is going from, Good luck!

like SC92 and clareq, that is the way its done here too, and with great effect, its now pretty effortless to build these machines

Staff use them, use pages to edit work, but we don't access any shares on them, its all through the VLE. If/when we roll out to children, this will be the same, although i do believe using profile manage, you can have shares on them. as i said above we haven't got this far yet. but it will be interesting to see how you get shares on them, and how they authenticate etc

Just a quick test, do the users who it works for always on all the machines, and the ones it doesn't work, always doesn't work on all the machines, because it may be some permissions problem with their profiles

Its pretty much expected that those profiles will be given out via the server, or by connecting the iPad to the server a choosing the profile for it. Although on that page is does say you can connect to the device to apply the profile, but writing the profile yourself will take some studying of those apple documentation. Although we had the server, we will used the iPhone utility, just because at the time it was well documented and profile manager was new. Depending on how many iPads, and how often you would have to change, settings, apps etc, would determine which one to go for. We only have a handful, so backup and restore, and then if anything goes wrong simply restore again. Then wait until enough setting/app changes mean a new image of all of them.

Yeah I've had something like that before with an application, its not fun, thats why i always keep images from everything now lol. Are they standalone or networked, because the problem we had, was a setting stopping this particular software from running.

If you don't have a mac mini server. i believe the config utility is the only way to get it done. Simply by creating the iPad with apps how you wish, then backing up to a machine and restoring to all the other iPads. If you have a mac mini server you can use profile manager, but i haven't got round to trying this set, so i can't comment further, managing iPads in school makes for an interesting discussion though. Have you got any iPads yet?

thats exactly what were running here, i suppose the only thing i can think of its to list everything you changed for the new image, and maybe reimage with the image that worked, and make those changes 1 by 1 and test after every change to see where the issue may lie, it would be tempting, if no major changes were made, to go back to the old image, just to get you back up and running again

No problem, just out of interest, what version of OSX you running, and i believe the latest version of iweb is 3?
