@sysman no Right. Can someone explain why my mini ghost setup won't work. It's probably very simple, but so am I at the moment. I have my XP machine. A desktop switch. Ghost and the netbooks. I've given my pc a static address, booted the netbooks with a boot USB I made with ghost, started ghost cast server, told ghost32 on netbooks the name of the session and the ip of the ghost server but that doesn't work. I've stared at this so long that my brain has switched off

As per my previous thread. I have 20 Netbooks that need imaging. I cant get ghost to work over VLAN. I cant add Option 60 to my 2K8 server here at Hogwarts. Link2ICT says it has something to do with Tree Spanning on the switches, not to sure about that one. I need a quick and uncovoluted way to image these machines. I was testing Clonezilla Live out with USB and it reckoned it was gonna take 10 hours to create the image, does that sound right to you?! USB2 and 250Gb drive. I've tried creating a mini lan with ghost using my computer but had no luck. May seem pretty trivial to you guys but im struggling. Starting to hate current situation and want to be back as one school again (How long am i allowed to play the Learning Network Manager card for? lol)

When ive tried pulling it from USB it crashed at 32%...

I can do it from local USB drive but dont really wanna do 20 like that.... EDIT: Didnt work!

Ok, im being a retard...i'll happily admit that. I dont seem to be able to focus on anything... Got a desktop switch cus i cant find anything else. Ghost is installed on my machine and plugged into the switch. If i boot from LAN its obviously trying to connect to DHCP which obviously isnt going to respond as my XP Machine obviously isnt a DHCP server. This is when i need the USB stick isnt it? So this is where i use the Ghost Boot Wizard and this is where i get stuck! lol

Eugh can someone tell me the script they use for this, brain has given up....having some wierd profile issues with netbooks to wondering if just getting rid of them off there will help.

I havent bitten the windows 7 bullet yet! Too many other things to worry about at the moment! They're gonna have XP on them (which will probably cause more issues i know). Right, this is going to be interesting...

Is there a way of doing this? Never had to think about it before. Through an external HDD or something? I have 20 Netbooks at Hogwarts but i cant Ghost them over our VLAN as Link2ICT have got Spanning Trees disabled on our switches. I can get it temporarily sorted but it means getting forms signed from our head and the head of the neighbouring school who's switch we are attached too. Basically a load of faffing. I was going to attempt to image them with an image ive already got for a slightly older model and sort the drivers out or i can create one from scratch, but basically i need a way of putting that image on the other 19 without having to cart them to our school site, image them and take them back again. Any ideas?

Ah. Well I can't ping my ghost server. How funny, I've never bothered try since I can remote to it! This is starting to get complicated. Might be easier just to take netbooks to our school with the server... EDIT: *facepalm* ping works if you plug the cable back into the computer!!!

Is this possible? I've seen a few forums that say it is but I'm a bit lost. We're currently running a VLAN through the neighbouring schools switch. I need to image 20 new netbooks. When I try to PXE boot it sits there searching and eventually times out and tries again. Is this something that i need to contact link2ict about? Whos switch needs configuring? Or is it something this end? I've seen the terms dense and sparse thrown about.
