I'd be careful beacuse the warranty is carry in leaving you without a projector and the lamp is only 1,000 hrs rather than the usual 4,000 hours. I buy mine from Misco. They might be slightly more but you now get a 5 year warranty onsite which includes a bulb replacement for the whole period. I think that's short throw right? If so, there is a bunch of Epson projectors £700 and £1000 that should meet your needs. We use Epson here because of 3 and 4 year onsite response where they will always leave us with a working projector.

Epson make the EB-595Wi which makes any flat surface interactive. The projector "paints" an infra red grid up to 100" on the surface and then picks up pen or finger movements.

The Samsung is well over £300. I have the 7" one with 3g and it is really good. I recently got a 10.1 Acer A500 for my daughter. It's wifi only but the specs are good, the usual tegra dual core 1gb processor, 1gb ram, 16gb onboard expandable, hdmi connection, front / rear cameras and one thing you dont usually get on tablets, a full size usb port for a keyboard connection. I think you can pick one up for £279 from Tesco Direct which is a good deal.

Maybe in the interim, you could post specifc questions and I'm sure someone will be able to help you. We moved from single fibre to 12 core a few years ago connecting HP edge switches via 10gb links. That work was carried out by HR Cabling who were brilliant and cheap. We chose HP Procurveover other companies as they offer a lifetime warranty unlike Cisco who will stop supporting stuff when it goes end of life (every 4 years or so) and it worked out cheaper.

Harsh. I can understand contractors being let go but not permies unless they are awful. The guys who quit need to understand that 90% of the IT world dont use RM so sooner or later they will need to learn how to use windows, AD, GP, exchange etc. I know it is unfair to have to learn this on your own time but that's the realitiy of most schools. My guys have to do it all the time because there never seems to be any budget when it comes time to train us. We are learning VMWare at the moment. Anyway back to the job, good luck for anyone applying but I think the pay is a little low compared to other schools currently advertising similar posts. Lovely area though, three pubs, big park nearby, lots of takeaways, and brent cross is a fifteen minute walk away.

I gave Proband a try some years ago. They sent half the order a week later, then the rest two weeks later and tried to charge me delivery twice! The account manager went on holiday and the interim one threatened to take us to court but finally "did us a favour" and waived it. On top of everything, they forgot to register the extended warranties so we ended up with 1 year warranties instead of 3. Never again.

I'm shocked some of you are not getting free delivery.

We have used Misco for the last 7 years. Even though we do tender for larger amounts, they always seem to offer the best price and value added service. I have never been charged delivery for anything and they will price match or better almost everything. My Account Manager is Carl Singh. He may not be the most technical person I have met but he tries hard all the time and is honest which is enough for me. Perhaps those people that are getting the run around from their Misco account managers should ask for their account to be moved to Carl. The request may be enough for your account manager to change his ways.

Good school and our arch Nemesis as we are in the same area. Lets not get hung up about the salary, it's a good opportunity for someone to learn the ropes without having to deal with too much management or tendering, SLT presentation, project management, strategy etc. Probably not a long service position unless you want to stay at this level. Also, I suspect there are going to be some wild differences in salaries now Academies can set their own rules.

If your increasing your PC count using netbooks and you cannot really expand your network points and switches, have you thought about wireless access points dotted around the school? It's a quick a easy way to get more nodes on the network.

There are good and bad sides to Dubai. There is a lot to do but as somabc said dont expect to be treated as an equal to an Emirati. As long as you can deal with their brashness and arrogance with humour, you should be fine. Have they chosen your apartment or will they chose it for you? I would say you should do find one yourself or else you could end up in the Moroccan part of IC near the sewage works. I know people who work out in Dubai that love it but I know those that hate it too so it really depends on you, if you feel for other people easily, you will struggle, a blinkered apporach seems to work for me when I'm out there. As I have said in my earlier reply, it can be an adventure, but have a backup plan if it doesnt work out. Lastly, try and retain your passport, dont give it to your employer as it might be a little harder to get back should you tell them to stuff their job.

As I said, it is something new and can be quite exciting but that does not come cheap. Most landlords will accept post dated cheques and you can haggle a little over the rent. You can usually tell the landlords who are desperate as they will advertise as accepting more than 6 cheques in one year. Sharjah is much cheaper to rent in but it is pretty strict, pretty quiet and not as glittzy as Dubai. Try and get something in Dubai if you can. The cheapest places are International City and Discovery Gardens but I think you can get apartments in Dubai Marina now which would be my recommendation. If you are driving about, just be prepared for the way people drive in Dubai, it is aggressive to say the least. Also, you will be stuck in traffic at sometime during the day if you are a field engineer so be prepared for that. Saying that, it is a fantastic adventure with the added bonus of an easier and cheaper flights to the far east and asia for even more discovering. I wish you all the best there.

What's the job title if I can ask please? Generally, the salary should be a lot higher than that if you are working for a largeish or reputable company. The trouble with Dubai is that you will be sponsored by your employer to have a work permit to work there. If for whatever reason, this does not work out, they can revoke it and you will not be able to work anywhere until you get another sponser. Also Dubai is quite expensive to rent. I can only think of two places where you could rent without having to top up the allowance and both are some distance from the centre of the city. They do have a decent bus service and the new monorail has eased the journey a little. If you have to use a car, be prepared for gridlock in the morning and evening and also some very scary driving. Lastly, you will be paid tax free but if you are a UK citizen, you may have to pay tax on your earnings should you bring them here. Saying that Dubai is an exciting place to work if you enjoy a fast paced, clubbing type of life otherwise it isnt as shiney as people think unless you are earning mega bucks.
