  1. Press release https://www.oii.ox.ac.uk/news/releases/self-regulation-of-social-media-platforms-failing-to-curb-disinformation-says-new-report/ The report https://oxtec.oii.ox.ac.uk/wp-content/uploads/sites/115/2019/10/OxTEC-The-Market-of-Disinformation.pdf
  2. Just a heads-up to say that Space 1999 is screening at 20:00 on the Horror Channel. It's great to see Eagle One being blown up in nearly every episode. Question - does Eagle Two get promoted when Eagle One is destroyed? Better question - in UFO what is written on the other side of SkyDiver? A date for your diary. Catweazle starts on Talking Pictures TV 2nd Nov at 15:30.
  3. We've used https://edu.academia.co.uk/ and https://www.western.co.uk/education-solutions.aspx
  4. How long has that been there? It's about flippin' time. Still no sensible wild cards on find though....
  5. We have a mix of Paxton locks (pants), where you wave your card in front of the lock and ASSA locks, where you post your card in a slot. The ASSAs are really reliable, but we do have one problem. We have a door where the battery has failed and the thingo we have to open a door with a dead battery is also dead, as we found out yesterday. This needs new batteries and they aren't your standard AA or AAA. We've got some on order but who knows when they will come.
  6. Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, which probably many have already seen. I normally like Luc Besson films, but this piece of trash looks to be a cut and paste of his favourite bites of Star Tek, Battlestar Galactica, Star Wars, etc, etc. Also, who told Cara Delevingne, that she could act? Mind you, she is better than Dane DeHaan, not that this is difficult.
  7. I don't see how a dir would show the menu structure.
  8. Does anybody know of a program to print out the menu structure on a windows box? Something like Programs Office MSWord "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office12\WINWORD.EXE" Excel "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office12\EXCEL.EXE" Irfanview "C:\Program Files (x86)\IrfanView\i_view32.exe" etc, etc Thanks as ever
  9. There are a load of them here https://www.thepoke.co.uk/2019/09/26/boaty-mcboatface-officially-named-sir-david-attenborough-today-reactions/
  10. Solar powered too! You don't even need that much light. I have the super-duper graphite stylus model, which is erasable.

  12. Our principle has had one for about 12 months and she loves it. Works well with her Mac book, but not so good with her Windows PC.
  13. Koha - Open Source ILS - Integrated Library System
  14. The red button text is a poor relation to CeeFax. Every story has to fit into two pages. Sometimes it spills onto three with one word. The BBC take the text straight from the website. There was a story a couple of days ago about the Peaky Blinders Festival that was held in Brum, complete with pictures! There were pictures back in the CeeFax days.
  15. Staff ids are the initials of the college, two digit year of joining and 2 digit sequential number - eg KE1210 Student ids are their six digit student number, two digit year and 4 digit sequential number, which are ranged in a manner I don't know - eg this year the lowest number is 198800, last year was 186000. Password is 8 characters or more, with at least one each of number, lower case, upper case, symbol. Three lockouts. See IT for unlocking. For students we don't enforce change at first login as most use their mobile phones and change at first login has proved tricky. We set it to their home post code and birthday, eg b69_4QH07 For staff we force change at first login and give them something simple like Orange23.
  16. The Slingshot Channel - https://www.youtube.com/user/JoergSprave - "Let Me Show You Its Feature" - His instant Legolas series is pure joy Athlean-x - https://www.youtube.com/user/JDCav24 - Great exercises, from a shouty bloke, who knows his stuff

  18. VICE's 50 Best British TV Shows of the Century So Far How We Compiled VICE's List of the Best 21st Century British TV There are a lot of BBC 3 shows in the list and their top choice is clearly wrong - it should be "Bunkers, Brutalism and Bloodymindedness: Concrete Poetry" by Jonathan Meades or any other of his all too rare programs.

  20. There is loads of information about all the Apollo missions here https://www.hq.nasa.gov/alsj/main.html Here's an interesting bit from Apollo 12 - it's the check lists the astronauts had on the wrist of their lunar suits https://www.hq.nasa.gov/alsj/a12/a12_cdrcuff.pdf (pgs 6 & 11 NSFW!)
  21. I'll never have a real one. I don't see the point of a £50 note - lots of shops refuse to take them.
