We use Servers alive but I don't know how good it is. I know it texts the bosses phone when something goes down or comes back up and it sends me an email. If you want to clone your moodle, the easiet method is to : dump the MySql databse copy the dump to the new server copy wwwroot to the new server copy moodledata to the new server if your new moodle has a different url, change any urls which are coded to the old url in the mysql dump (I use sed for this) create a MySql database on the new server import the dump change the moodle config file to reflect the new server Whenever I'm upgrading moodle, I do the above to that I can practice the upgrade first.

How much RAM do you have? I've found swap = RAM + 25% a good rule of thumb. It used to be RAM + RAM + 50% but now you don't really need anything other than swap = RAM. I like a bit extra although I've yet to see my box actually use any swap even when I've got loads running.

Our end of term was Thursday last week, with the leaving speeches for staff on the Friday (complete with BBQ). This week is TOIL week for teachers, so there have been a few in. Today, officially, term time only staff finish, so starting next week the ICT staff have the place to ourselves for 6 weeks and we can run amok and get all the major work done. Two weeks and then I'm off for three, so I'm going to be very busy for the next fortnight.

Before we ditched SP in favour of something more usable (Joomla!), I did. It was mostly a bunch of CEWP. I used Sharepoint Designer for basic layout. It wasn't too difficult but our site was very basic.

One of the teachers is using IE11 to open PDFs from Unit-E (our MIS from Crapita). It randomly does this I've shown her where the PDFs live on the shared drive and suggests she opens them that way.
