  1. Hmm, I ended up doing this with http://www.isapirewrite.com/ as a purchased component. This allowed me to redirect two internal (Linux) servers via our iis6 intranet. Not seen a free way of doing this (yet). Rob K
  2. We have just moved over to it from Ranger, works very well for us. Would recomnend a demo if at all possible.
  3. Facility is normally installed (to my knowledge anyway) this way. A facility share is used, and a client files folder used as the "start in" field of the short cut. For training though, you will find everyone needs a different database. (Otherwise the first person completing a task will stop everyone else doing it!) RobK
  4. You will probably not need to create a msi. Is this for foundation training by any chance? If this is the case, set everything up on one PC, and just copy the facility folder across to the other machines. Create a short cut on the start menu job done. You can even do this on a memory stick and just plug it in for training. RobK
  5. Mentioned this to our dept head, and didn`t get a no! So count me in. Rob
  6. Impero cost us much less than ranger, but I can`t remember if we got a deal or not. Worth mentioning that you plan to move, it seems to reduce the costs a bit.... HTH Rob
  7. We are in the process of moveing from Ranger to impero, we get the activity logging etc and remote control for much less than Ranger would cost us. Worth looking at the impero demo, as it co-exists with ranger nicely. Rob K
  8. We are having problems with our eportal server. To ensure password lockout etc for audit we have set iis to require a domain logon before serving the eportal pages, staff then log on to eportal in the usual way. This works fine for most of our staff..... Just some fail to log on, we can`t see any real pattern to who other than the problem moves with the member of staff, (roaming profiles are not turned on). Its only around 10% that can`t log in, but I just can`t understand why its happening. Any suggestions (other than turn the security off, we have external access on this server so I can`t do that.)? Rob K
  9. Hmm, our copy got renamed something slightly different from Shine awards...... Never did get it to work correctly and by the time we had wasted weeks on trying the £49 the PE dept spent on it fell into insignificance! If anyone has a sucess story I would love to hear it...... Sorry if this is bad tideings. Rob K
  10. We used at a system called team, by education software, which did web based reports and also attendance etc. However as we have just moved to CMIS Facility I stopped working on team. Team had just been Capita approved and could do direct read/writes to the sims database. Rob Keeling
  11. If this is still on for Wed, may well be able to make it. Assuming SMT let me book the thursday off..... Rob
  12. Which sub contractor are they using for AV? We have used A2Z for years, and found them good, but the last AV install they did for us was not with their usual AV supplier, who didn`t do a good a job as the normal one. Have you raised this with A2Z?
  13. That would be really helpful actually Rob, basically we need to copy about 100 gig's of data from one drive to another, however when using windows explorer etc it keeps flagging up errors and the files get scanned by Sophos and keep getting blocked. We just need a script which we can input our source and destination info in etc for now and then look at making our own for future projects etc. An example script would be really helpful. I used the following to copy our home dirs back from external USB drive ready after a server rebuild. G is the usb drive, e the data drive. the /COPY:D stops the file permissions being changed. The default from memory is DAT which copies Atributes and ACLS. robocopy g:\ e:\ /COPY:D /xd g:\recycler /xd "g:\System Volume Information" /xo /e /zb /R:5 /LOG:"g:\restore.log" /TEE /w:1 Note that robocopy can be restarted so you can look at the log, remove a problem file and re-start. Hope this helps. PM me if you need more.
  14. What do you need to do? Robocopy is a really great tool, the command syntax is a bit tricky until you get used to it. Just migrated all our user accounts with a robocopy script & have a few example scripts available, could PM you one if needed. Rob
  15. A similar thing happened to me, basically county told our head that linux wasn`t as easy to support as windows, so standardise on windows! In some respects I could see there point, but we ended up spending money on licensing that we didn`t need and then getting less performance out of the hardware we were using! I would suggest costing up the HW/SW required to migrate. This may well add some weight to the argument! Certainly we are still running a linux mail, proxy, firewall etc, but intranet and printing have gone over to windows. HTH Rob
  16. Has anyone had problems running Eportal on HP servers? We are just about to switch over from sims to cmis. So we ordered two HP servers a DL360 G5 with 4 gb ram and sas raid 1 for the database server (running w2003 R2 Sp2 and sql server 2005) & a DL320 G5 with 2Gb ram and sata raid 1 for eportal (again runing w2003 R2 sp2). We have never had eportal running correctly, it seems to work, but will "hang" going into the student details page. Serco tech support have been looking at it for weeks, but are trying to point to a hardware problem. I have spent many hours rebuilding the server with/without HP`s smartstart cd, but to no real end. I am wondering if there is something about the hardware thats causing it. I can run eportal on a xp workstation and it seems to be ok (if a bit slow) but I don`t want to move to xp for a "production" server! It does at least seem to rule out a network/db server fault though. Anyone else using similar hardware? Thanks Rob Keeling
  17. I was looking a the Zebra printers, but was trying to work out how the mag stripe encoding worked from word. (There web site seems to show that it`s possible). We are in the process of switching to CMIS, and were hoping to be able to extract the data and photos from that. Really, we are looking for a) how do other schools extract and manage the data. and b) what sort of cost are we looking at for cards and printer ink? Thanks Rob Keeling
  18. We are looking at implementing a magnetic stripe card based print quota system, which together with our electronic library system could be driven off a ID card issued to all staff & students. How do others do this? What sort of card printer etc should we be looking at? Any recommended suppliers & costs? Thanks. Rob Keeling
  19. Hmm, we found WORM_RINBOT on a number of W2K based CCTV servers, Trend housecall finds and appears to kills it. Not sure if this is the exact same virus, but I know of another school that got the same problem, though worse than us as they had more W2K clients (on top of other networking problems as well). Source of infection would be interesting, considering that would make three DCC sites with it, perhaps EMBC`s firewall is not as good as they tell us?? What are the visible effects of said virus? Rob Keeling
  20. Which boxford package is it? Vrmilling is a MSI file install here, though they usually send a single user version with each machine. Will see if we have it installed here. Rob Keeling
  21. I finally got the msi cd from promethean. Works a dream. PM me for the promethean contact.
  22. Bit of an update! After many hour fiddling with vmware over christmas..... The new Activboard driver installs as a stright MSI. Activboard Student edition will install from a MSI after running Setup /a, then applying a ISSETUPDRIVEN=1 transform and ensuring isscript9.msi is installed. We had to edit a copy of iscript9.msi to change the guid as iscript8.msi was already deployed....... This was the sticking point. Apparently there is a MSI version of the main software but it has to be requested from a contact within promethean. I am waiting for an email back on that. Thought I ought to update the thread in case it helps others. Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. Rob Keeling
  23. Yes, Tried that, still no luck. Has anyone else been able to deploy this package? Thanks Rob Keeling
  24. Yep, isscript9 deployed, I can`t even get the msi to start installing. Appdeploy says use the msi from the cd, I thought promethean had fixed the problem! Rob Keeling
  25. We have paid promethean for a update to our activstudio software, as we are starting our XP upgrade on the 3rd, and want to roll out activstudio via AD. Athough the cd contains MSI`s they are installshield versions that the ISSETUPDRIVEN=1 trick does not seem to work. Has anyone got a procedure I can try? I am guessing promethean tech support will be closed for the festive season! Any suggestions would be greatly recieved. Rob Keeling
