  1. Microsoft Azure Backup Server (Data Protection Manager without tape library support) is also free but, requires and Azure Backup Vault subscription. https://azure.microsoft.com/en-gb/blog/announcing-microsoft-azure-backup-server/
  2. @ZeroHour is it possible to provide an update?
  3. ^ I agree! It will always be a case of what suits the needs of your network/school at the end of the day! The Microsoft Classroom did look interesting, perhaps this could take some of the exsiting content on file shares away from on-premises?
  4. Not received an e-mail either, perhaps we are not the among the chosen ones? @ZeroHour is it possible to provide an update?
  5. If we have not been contacted by email after applying, does this mean you’re not one of the lucky ones to be selected?
  6. Im returning to an old problem - what about YouTube?
  7. The hosting cost for us is £500 as we only have the 3 users. The cost we had quoted for the 1-day consulting to install SOLUS3/SQL 2014 and migrating SIMS FMS and Earnie to a new server was more than your £700! For us, we could have it hosted for multiple years, have the system offsite and have Capita's support team handling all the updates. It’s just the performance that we are seeing with the hosted system that is the negative for us…
  8. You still need to pay the other support/other fees. Going Hosted saved us the cost for a new server and the onsite consultancy charge for the work... We use iSAMS for as our MIS and are only using FMS for invoicing. Perhaps I should not say this but, our Accounts team wish we had not made the change...
  9. We migrated our 3 SIMS/FMS users to the Azure Hosted SIMS in Sept 2015. Costing is very attractive, also having Capita’s support team looking after the system, updates etc. swayed us to make the move. We did have problems with the migration, things like email settings to allow BACS payment advices to be sent, which meant the BACS processes took around 45 minutes to complete - @PhilNeal helped get these problems sorted out for us. I get lost of grumbles about the performance from all 3 of our SIMS/FMS users, putting in invoices takes a long time etc. SIMS/FMS all runs in an RDP session and we see lot of "not responding" and the SQL mouse pointer showing up etc. As its a RemoteApp session provided by the server in the Azure platform wouldn't that be where the problem lies? At the moment Capita's support team are hinting that is a problem with our desktops, internet connection, proxy/filtering. We get the same sort of speeds during half terms when there is less load on our proxy/filtering/leased line. Anyone else using hosted SIMS on Azure and having performance problems?
  10. I use the HTTPS SSL logon page, it cant provide links to the cert for MITM or profiles, but it looks like they will be "investigating potential solutions" for making the MITM self installation easier The Carisbrooke update provides a NON-SSL Login Page "The option should remove alerts warning end users about security certificates —and removes the need to roll out a certificate— but it should be noted that this will also transmit unencrypted login information."
  11. I'm looking at using a Synology RS815+ for our general file shares. I was thinking about creating iSCSI LUNS so I can still use FSRM. Not sure how much of a performance drop users would see between SAS 15K disks and SATA WD Red disks - storage space could be more of a priority for us...
  12. Does anyone have Ingram Micro UK as their distributor? They don't appear to want to talk with our reseller about adding the licenses to our OVS...
  13. Part Numbers appear to be - S2Y-00002 O365ProPlusOpenStudents ShrdSvr ALNG SubsVL OLV NL 1Mth Acdmc Stdnt w/Faculty S3Y-00004 O365ProPlusOpenFclty ShrdSvr ALNG SubsVL OLV E 1Mth Acdmc AP AddOn toOPP Some resellers/ditributers might not be able to add this to an OVS without charging £0.01 per licence as they cant sell something at a zero cost in their systems...
  14. Just raised a service request with MS about getting on the eligible list as we also don't appear to be on it. Hopefully they will be able to provide an answer and not redirect us back to our OVS reseller...
  15. Did this happen automatically for you, or did you have to get your reseller to do something before the Office 365 Education for Faculty/Students licences appeared?
  16. Scribd's Terms of Use say that the "Scribd Platform is not intended for children under 13" I saw a similar post the other day about what people were doing with http://www.edugeek.net/forums/internet-related-filtering-firewall/134021-pinterest.html Just thinking how to restructure filtering policies for services that have age restrictions in the terms of service...
  17. What was the outcome from Microsoft? If staff are already licenced under EES do they also need to have the Office Pro Plus licence in Office 365 @ £1.70 per month?
  18. I think the Office 365 ProPlus for Students is a different licence than the A2 licence. The information here from October 2013 Student Advantage and Office 365 ProPlus FAQ - Microsoft Education in the Cloud - Site Home - TechNet Blogs says that Student Advantage and Office 365 ProPlus subscription includes Office 2013 for PC, Office 2011 for Mac, Office Mobile for iPhone and Android. I guess that now includes Office for iPad...?
  19. Anyone using Smoothwall with the Layer 7/Deep packet inspection module?
  20. Have you checked that you have setup the external access rules? System>> Administration>>External access Interface second NIC , Source All, Service other web access on HTTP (80) Interface second NIC , Source All, Service other web access on HTTPS (442)
  21. If we have no user data in our existing tenancy, would it be best to sign up for the new next gen office 365 and start over again? I already have staff and student licences allocated to our existing tenancy, and our vanity domain is also linked to it - would that cause problems, or is it best to wait for the upgrade to come through?
  22. Are there any details for when existing tenancies will be able to upgrade to the new version?
  23. Setup a transparent proxy server with SSL cookie authentication in SmoothWall, working well for us. I don’t think there is much management of personal devices that you could do. Meraki offer a free Mobile Device Management system which you could use to manage your school owned devices with.
