Hi folks, Has anyone here offboarded from RM Unify? At the moment RM Unify is federated with our Office 365 system. If we offboard, how do we then connect up Azure sync on the AD to those same accounts that are up in Azure/Office 365? In part so it doesn't then duplicate the accounts. Thanks

Hi All, There have been a few items online recently about increasing the number of items in a jump list e.g. https://www.howtogeek.com/267705/how-to-increase-the-number-of-jump-list-items-in-windows-10/ Oddly though it doesn't work for Office apps, which seem stuck at the default. Anyone know if there is a specific setting for these? Thanks

Thanks, I suspected it would be hugely time consuming and complex, so will leave it for the moment.

We've got a lot of resources invested in SMHW and MINTclass, so it will be a wrench to migrate from those. I'm also a huge fan of Parents Evening System and Room Booking System, but we're going to trial EduLink at least and see if there are any showstoppers, in terms of missing features.

We asked about Tucasi, and currently no integration with that.

Hi Folks, I've posted separately about an issue we have getting staff to remember they have duty e.g. going to a particular place during break to supervise students. I'm not a SIMS admin, so bear with my naivety... At the moment staff see their timetable on their timeline, as they regularly check there for cover. I can see the gaps shown where we have breaks. Is it trivial to add in their duties on the timelines, or is that something connected with timetables, and hideously complex? Thanks

The SIMS client is definitely going to the right place i.e. \\mis01\sims_share$\SIMS\Documentation\index_main_ eng_sec.html, but I think it's the documentation that isn't updating when SIMS is patched. For a long time we've got a WhatsNew.pdf for an old version. I'm not sure why the documentation isn't updating though - presumably a question for our county support?

Or for anyone else, we're going to "Documentation" from the Home Page, then clicking on the "Exams & Assessment" link. Where's that going for everyone else?

Hi folks, One of our SIMS admins has spotted a broken link in our SIMS Documentation install. If we go to "Documentation" (far right) from the home screen we get "Documentation Centre for Secondary Schools". There are some buttons below e.g. Manager, Finance & HR, but when clicked on they go to a simspublication.com link which is dead. Is something broken in our documentation, or does everyone else have this? Thanks

Really we're not looking to change from SIMS - it's such a standard, and we buy through county, so not direct with Capita. Mostly I was looking for feedback on whether EduLink One is as amazing as it seems.

@Ditto the comment is in response to @EdTech-Tom's "you could always look at another MIS that may be a more complete solution". Is there an MIS that includes all that SIMS does, plus EduLink One? We use most if not all of what SIMS offers, plus all the modules that EduLink One offers, albeit as other separate products atm.

Is there any MIS that pulls together everything from SIMS and EduLink One?

We're a relatively big school (a comprehensive), so cost is around £2k, but still a huge saving on the products it will replace. We will definitely trial it, just to see if there are any showstopper missing features for us.

Hi folks, We received a brochure for EduLink One, and it seems to good to be true - brings together several products that we currently use, with associated cost saving. Anyone out there using it and can give feedback? I spotted a thread from early this year, which seemed to be positive. Thanks

I wasn't sure exactly, but I see now that LDAP is already part of a DC - as you say, no need to install the separate LDAP server role. I tested using LDP.EXE and could connect via LDAP on the default unencrypted port 389 to the DC. The problem is getting it to work over LDAPS. I have tried to follow the guide that Jamf link to https://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/2980.ldap-over-ssl-ldaps-certificate.aspx but on a 2019 server there is no certificate templates section. I added the Certificate Authority role to the server, and created a certificate (the option to create an Enterprise CA was greyed out, not sure of the signifiance of that), but clearly something's missing as I cannot connect to LDAP using port 636. This is just testing locally with LDP.EXE, so I can understand why the cloud connection from Jamf isn't working, albeit lots more potential for things to go wrong with that. Jamf say that we should not need to import the certificate on their site, as it should be requesting the certificate and then installing automatically. I'm stuck as to where to go from here...

Definitely installed, and I've created a CA (I couldn't create an Enterprise CA as it was greyed out, not sure why). I then created a certificate. I didn't reboot though, so will try that tomorrow.

I'm trying to connect Jamf School (previously ZuluDesk) to LDAP on our DC. Jamf School will only connect via LDAPS, for good reason I suspect as a cloud service. I've already put in place port forwards and opened the firewall, restricted to the public IPs that Jamf use. Jamf point you at this guide to set it up, but it looks rather old https://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/2980.ldap-over-ssl-ldaps-certificate.aspx I've tried using this guide, which includes a section on activating LDAP, so the question is do I need to do that? https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/microsoftrservertigerteam/2017/04/10/step-by-step-guide-to-setup-ldaps-on-windows-server/ As above, when I try and add the LDAP to the DC it complains that I can't use the default ports beacuse they're used by AD.

Hi folks, Does anyone know if LDAP runs by default on a 2019 DC? I note it's not installed as a role by default, but when you add it you then get a message about the default LDAP ports conflicting with existing services. I'm wondering if this is beacuse a DC already runs LDAP. Thanks

I wonder why it isn't affected by these same issues?

I get the feeling they want to put it all under Endpoint Manager, where SCCM/EM is leveraging WSUS. But as it's still leveraging WSUS, do you still ultimately get issues where WSUS isn't actually responding?

Not yet, because I'm just trying to get LDAP to connect from Jamf to the DC, so nothing Apple-y involved.

This is with a port forward and firewall restriction to only accept connections from jamf's IP addresses. If only it would bloody work...

I ended up going the easy route and buying WSUS Automated Maintenance. It works, and has brought the WSUS console back to being useable. Amazing how Microsoft with its billions of dollars can't add in such relatively simple fixes/maintenance.

I hadn't thought to whitelist Jamf's web address, but everything else is in place. We have a port forward, and a firewall unblock. I can see the requests coming in on the realtime firewall log. Jamf says it can't connect.
