  1. Do you know where your data resides? Think of any cloud and hosted services if you get asked the question. Best summary I saw the other day was about being aware of your situation; what people have access to which type of data and where is it stored? Ultimately responsibility does rest with the DPO but that's no excuse to not be engaged with the legislation and actively trying to help improve processes etc.
  2. Looking forward to build 1709 for both Windows desktop and server by looks of it
  3. Over 3000 machines here so Sophos gets pricey quickly. Just had our MS reseller confirm we can use MBAM \ MDOP at no additional cost so decision made for me
  4. Luckily Windows 10 1709 comes out around the same time, OneDrive Files on Demand will be a game changer
  5. @Blue_Cookeh does it give true user-based policies for enabling encryption i.e. turning it on for staff and not students in a User GPO? At the moment I'm using a GPP registry kludge to switch the BDD flags on \ off for user groups but it's not ideal and I'd prefer a "proper" policy that sits in User Configuration Administrative Templates. Did you pay extra on EES for it?
  6. Do you have it running? I started looking at it but the setup seemed a fair bit of work and from what I read online didn't sound entirely convincing?
  7. Translators were one of those "jobs that won't exist in the future" lists a while back. At the last Future Decoded the keynote speaker said he would discourage his child from learning a language as it'll be a pointless skill by the time they grow up. Controversial yes, accurate... perhaps.
  8. Azure AD Application Proxy, secure method of publishing internal resources using Office 365 login for SSO
  9. It's mainly what that "Plus" license was all about. I remember initially it being a self sign-up method that we kept people away from then somewhere along the line got put into our main license pool with Unlimited users (rather than the EES-based licenses that renew at a certain quantity).
  10. Oddly our Plus has email turned off by default, very strange
  11. We've had a script in place for about 3 years now that automatically licenses new student accounts each night but we're getting a few where it's not been working quite right recently. Odd issues like missing a mailbox etc. Going back into the Portal it seems MS have changed the names and plans again, can anyone explain what Office 365 A1 Plus for students is in comparison to Office 365 A1 for students I think the "Plus" plan used to be the one that students could self-serve when signing up but not sure whether that's changed now?
  12. Also ensure you have SSL inspection on for *everything* rather than the default on some filters that just decrypt categories like "Social Media", "Web Search" etc.
  13. Is that using full-blown RDS with Gateway, Connection Broker etc. or just straight out over 3389?
  14. ^^^ that's basically the same as mine too, works like a charm

    Firefox Quantum

Sounds promising as Firefox did get rather bloated and clunky which was why I stopped using it. Now if they could put some effort into the following it might be more usable on corporate networks: official supported GPO templates change behaviour on a "managed" version so it follows Windows certificate store like Chrome does similar for proxy detection etc.
  16. About time too Hopefully this means better suppport on non-Windows devices when using Modern Auth as the RDS Client for iOS \ Android has been lagging behind. You can already do Modern Auth via some tricks with Kerberos Delegation but I guess the new update should bake it in as a standard feature which is good to see.
  17. Just when we started advising people to try Google out a bit, typical!
  18. Thanks for the confirmation guys, I used to set powercfg -h off manually in the reference image but left it out by mistake when moving over to MDT as we made a lot of changes in how we build systems now along with piloting Win10. Interesting, I used to run this in my old imaging system to get Aero enabled on Win7 but skipped it on Win10 now everything is flat again and doesn't rely on graphics so much. I thought I read somewhere that 10 automatically optimises itself for SSD but maybe all that is old is new again and winsat needs to go back in
  19. Eek some of our new students were activating their accounts on it today, typical!
  20. Just going back through my Windows 10 deployment settings and noticed on some hardware the NIC wasn't able to catch up in time after a "Fast Startup" boot. In some cases it didn't come up at all, maybe a driver issue, more investigation required for the exact cause. However it's made me question whether that should be turned off for reliability of connections and ensuring Computer GPO etc. is fully refreshed on each boot. The hiberfile also eats up disk space, which is at a premium these days with SSDs and ever increasing Windows Update caches. So I'm looking to set the following registry GPPs: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Power\HiberbootEnabled = 0 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\HibernateEnabled = 0 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\HiberFileSizePercent = 2 So basically disable all Hibernation and set the hiberfile size down to a nominal size. Anyone gone the other way and using Fast Startup and Hibernation on their network? On the plus side boot times are lightning fast but wonder if what you gain in speed you lose in management \ reliability?
  21. We went direct too, maybe as a Bloxx customer wanting to move that helped the price but all the others I looked at with equivalent functionality were costing more.
  22. Need to shop around a bit more in that case, our Smoothwall price was in and around \ less than the usual competitors on here at the time
  23. An organisation on one of my email lists was seeing a 30% price increase under the new agreement, glad we signed ourselves onto a 3-year deal back in July.
  24. That next release was rumoured last summer, is it finished it yet with the Google Drive support? Always sounded great but never saw a finished product before our renewal came up which was a shame.
  25. Windows 10 1709 comes out October 17th and has OneDrive Files on Demand which is pretty much the magic bullet for cloud storage. Bring it on
