  1. I have just found Show Traffic and it seems to do exactly the same as the linux software, I can see about 15 of these line produced every second: IP: X.X.7.31 SRC PORT: 2048 DESTINATION: 10.255.255.255 DEST PORT 16795 (random) PROTO: ICMP TRAFFIC: 84 Any ideas what the hell its doing??
  2. We have 14 Linksys Wireless-G WAP200 access points around the school. We recently had our main HP switch basically grind to a halt with all activity lights more or less fully on and flashing simaltaniously!! Internet was extremely slow and our broadband provider remoting into the onsite linux box could see an emmense amount of traffic flooding the network. Anyway... we tracked it back to 3 wireless access points. I have now disconnected all other wireless points and am reluctant to plug any back in. I cant find any information on the web simular to this but speaking to another local school they had the same problem with Netgear APs Is this a common problem with APs? is there any way it can be avoided? I cant believe that they would be able to do this much damage to a network !!! Any help would be appreciated! Also... does anyone know that software that was being used on the linux box to see all the traffic? basically it was just a command window were every ping or request showed up as a line with IP and other info.. Is this a part of linux?
  3. Did you have any success getting this MSI ? we are in the same boat...
  4. Hi mate, Its part of Server 2003 R2 - FSRM http://www.windowsnetworking.com/img/upl/image002a1133860862765.JPG And unfortunetly I cant seem to get it to accept wildcards Thanks Any other ideas pls?
  5. ICT Curriculam have decided that they do not want any SWF/FLA files in the students home drives UNLESS they are in a folder (in their homedrive) called "ICT Work Folder" I have setup the ICT teachers access to this ict work folder allready... Currently i have File screening setup with my test student (ooa) to block all SWF etc on there hme drive, and then a separate EXCLUSION for there ICT Work folder, as below: http://img136.imageshack.us/img136/6770/screeningxg0.jpg This is working fine, but there is no way i can manually setup exclusions for every students ICT work folder... Does anyone know a better way around this? or a way to script all the exclusions in? or even where they are stored so i could possibly edit...? Thanks in advance
  6. I had this error, found it was failing when i was using a network share instead of a full path for the content, ie. P:\SMART CONTENT instead of \\SERVER\SMART CONTENT Good Luck
  7. thanks for the reply mate... I will try that now
  8. Im having the same problem here.... It is our terminal server and as we have Loopback enabled all the user settings are effecting admins also... I just want the "terminalservices_users" GP to be applied to the staff... So i thought, easy just use the "security Filtering" and remove "auth users" and put in the staff group (just teachers) http://img212.imageshack.us/img212/8743/19414982jb7.jpg but when i run the group policy results tool for a user in the staff group i get: http://img382.imageshack.us/img382/3149/76153706lm5.jpg In the post above it says you also need a computer account, but this is the only PC they will ever log into as it is our terminal server, if i aslo add our TS1 server in the policy filtering then it applies the policy to anyone including admins.... Anyone please got any ideas?
  9. I was about to post the exact same problem.... When the teachers log in connected to the network their drives all map fine... We have a staff share and a Public area, if they choose to syncronize a few folders from each drive and then login at home they do not see these drives? Does the login script get copied to the local laptop and still run when offline? in the event log it says something like cannot connect to dc1\netlogon\map_drives.vbs should i create a local copy of the script to the laptop and add it to the startup list?
  10. we have a computer room with 512mb ram and all PCs installed CS3 just fine?
  11. anyone please?
  12. Currently we have a pretty beefy exchnge server running exchange 2007 standard. We currently have all staff using outlook and OWA from home. Over the summer we want to also put all the students onto the exchange box. But i was wondering: Can we have 2 separate address books? (only enterprise?) one for all the staff that doesnt see the kids, and one for the students that the staff doesnt see? Can we keep the student and staff policies separate? i.e different size attachments and mnailbox sizes?? Cheers in advance
  13. i think i may have found the problem, when i did a "netsh dhcp show server" to list all the DCHP servers (we only have one) i was getting 4 authorised dchp servers !!! one was completely wrong, incorrect name to ip address, other 2 were on other servers which have not got dchp or ever have on them.. anyways i have cleaned it up and now I only have DC2 as the auth DCHP server. Fingers crossed this will sort it out Thanks for the help
  14. Thanks guys, will have another look today !! Will post back PS. "NSLOOKUP says default server is 'unknown'. That's not good." <-- i think thats a vista thing
  15. Looks like your machines haven't registered the fully qualified domain. Try entereing lc1-03.wolverly.local into NSLOOKUP and see if it works. Exactly the same result... Looks like your reverse zone is borked. If you don't need it, delete it. You can recreate it later in your own time. I paused the old reverse lookup and re-create it, I think now the reverse is working as it now has Pointers/entries building up in it. But still doesnt help the fwd....
  16. What happens when you do a 'reload from master' on your DNS zone? If "Reload from Master" is the same as Reload, then initially it did nothing, after deleting LC1-02 and then reloading, LC1-02 did not reappear, after 10-15min and another RELOAD it reappeared and had the correct IP. What happens when you try an NSLOOKUP query against a machine's name - do you get two IP addresses back? http://img127.imageshack.us/img127/2797/nslookupsd8.jpg Are your two DNS servers agreeing with each other? Yes they look the same Also, are there any DNS error messages in eventviewer? yeah quite a few, but only on DC2 !! Mainly related to Pinters and Wireless access points... The DNS server encountered error 32 attempting to load zone 4.50.10.in-addr.arpa from Active Directory. The DNS server will attempt to load this zone again on the next timeout cycle. This can be caused by high Active Directory load and may be a transient condition. The DNS server has encountered numerous run-time events. To determine the initial cause of these run-time events, examine the DNS server event log entries that precede this event. To prevent the DNS server from filling the event log too quickly, subsequent events with Event IDs higher than 3000 will be suppressed until events are no longer being generated at a high rate. The DNS server could not load the records for the DNS name PE SAMSUNG 510 found in the Active Directory integrated zone {school}.local. A possible cause is that this DNS name contains character(s) not permitted by the name-checking setting on this DNS server. :( thanks for replying, any ideas mate?
  17. We are having a major headache with DNS here... as you can se below the DNS ip is not matching the DCHP ip, the DHCP ip is correct... When i try to ping eg. LC1-02 from a wokstation i get the wront ip..... http://img294.imageshack.us/img294/7779/dns1er7.jpg We have DNS setup on DC1 and DC2.. We had a company set up DNS a hile back an im pretty sure that they setup the reverse lookup zone incorrectly (maybe forward also!!) heres how they setup the reverse is setup: http://img444.imageshack.us/img444/6818/dns2sb3.jpg Im pretty sure that its totally wrong our default gateway is 10.50.4.1.. when you try and manually add an pointer you can see the IP is messed up! as you can se ive paused the one that they created and redone it myself to how i think it should be.. but im not 100% sure !! Is there anything that is jumping out to anyone? or something i can please check? When i try and refresh DNS or RELOAD nothing changes, sae for ipconfig /fushdns on a workstation.. the only way i can fix the problem is right clicking on the ip in DNS and deleting it, then a flush on the workstation... please help !! Cheers in advance
  18. thanks, We have the staff sorted, they are all allocated into Accounts on Papercut, Its the students that we are not sure about. Do you give the departments 2 x Bills ? One for Staff use and one for Students that have printed to their dept printer? Or does someone else pay for student toner use? Cheers
  19. thanks for the reply mate. We currently have Papercut setup, the question wasnt about limiting the printing but more about the budgets and who and how toner is paid for.
  20. Hi all, We are currently trying to implement a print monitoring software in the school. The current setup is: The head will allocate each department a budget (not a printing budget),in this budget they decide on how much they will spend on printing. ICT Maint buy the toner in and when a departments printer is out of toner we replace it and bill their department... Currently any staff can print anywhere and the owner of the printer will get billed. We would like it setup so that staff/departments are billed for exactly what they print where-ever they print. How do other schools do this? Does the Headmaster budget a single pot for student printing? Cheers
  21. For repeat offenders constanlty playing games, when they log in we have been manually browsing into: \\COMPUTER NAME\c$\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash And tempararly renaming the FlDbg9c.ocx file to FlDbg9c.ocxorig... This stops them being able to us any flash sites etc... I was wondering is someone had any idea or a vbs that would rename this file and then rename back on logout? or even to do it on the fly? we could then apply this to them or to a group? I know they will struggle when tyring to legitimatly use swf files, but 95% of the time they are not.. My plan is if they are banned from the net and cannot play there swf games they might do some work!
  22. i think 90p per user is the best price ive found for others excluding the edugeek tool
  23. We are currently having big problems with NETOP 5.5 and Ranger working together..... Both are blaming each other, netop 5.0 is fine, but 5.5 just hangs at login with the field background...... annoying
  24. we use "UMRA" for this kind of thing, does so much in AD..... Active Directory management, Helpdesk delegation, Bulk / Mass Import, Migration | Active Directory Management for Windows 2003 XP 2000 NT
  25. Thanks for the repies, i am in the remote group, our "Terminal Service Users gpo was un-set in the setting you mentioned: Default: On workstation and servers: Administrators Remote Desktop Users. Ive added myself to this group, but no joy, im pretty sure its the loopback as it ignoring the user settings..
