Cool, I am considering deploying it this year but will have to stick with 32 bit version as I know that at the very least Sage accounts doe not play well with 64 bit editions of Office. Just to clarify you are actually a SIMS school?

Hi there Is anyone using Office 2021 LTSC yet and does this play nicely with SIMS as it is technically not supported on the SIMS technical roadmap.
-
Just found that the easiest way to deploy Office 2021 in Config Manager (Current Branch) is the use the Office365 Client Management module in Config Manager itself. It takes you through ODT and automatically creates the package. All you need to do is deploy it. In terms of the device licensing options not being available in the ODT (it does write user based activation = 1 to the XML) I left this intact and it still seems to activate correctly using AD based activation. I think as long as the KMS option is selected in the ODT this is not an issue. For those who do not know this I had to contact Microsoft to have KMS keys released for Server 2022 and Office 2021 as they are no longer assigned automatically in the VLSC.

Anyone know why the device based licensing field is not available in the ODT? I will be activating using AD based activation. Unless I am misunderstanding this surely it should be set to be device based licensing???

Hi there Did you ever resolve this issue. We are unable to get Huawei devices connected to our BYOD WiFi and are struggling to pinpoint the issue as other brands seem to connect without issue.

I looked at a number of different brands of Interactive screen including ViewSonic, BenQ, Genie & Newline but all had limitations of some sort as I was looking for something that would be as future proof as possible. We ended up going with with CTOUCH "www.ctouch.eu" (not to be confused with Clevertouch) and these screens are absolutely top notch. We ripped the projectors out of every classroom over the Summer and I can honestly say I have never looked back much less hassle than projectors with far more possibilities in regards teaching and learning. All our classrooms have a 75" RIVA and we have a couple of rooms where there was no logical way of mounting so we put in a 65" on a trolley. What makes these screens better then the others is the though that went in to the design. The edges of the screen are magnetic so you can hang the pen and remote (also magnetic) on the screen itself. In terms of the technical specifications most screens still come with fast ethernet ports built in but these are indeed gigabit ethernet ports but even better blow a class away with the built in 80watt yes 80 watt JBL speakers so no need for separate speakers or a sound bar. Quite honestly you could blow a large hall away with the power of these speakers. The WiFi adapter is an optional extra that you screw in to the rear of the screen and I like this as it means the WiFi adapter can theoretically be upgraded after a few years to work with newer WiFi standards as opposed to others that have it built in they are also secured so less likely to be simply pulled out and nicked.... Only downside is the MDM management is poor however all brands seem to use the Radix platform these days as it may well be the only one out there for Android based systems and it is very limited. The Uboard software is good and is updated fairly regularly with OTA updates. The screens come with a subscription to use Mozabook however we are not using this yet.

Hi there, no safe mode caused the same issue. Luckily and after a few hours troubleshooting I have resolved the issue and it turned out to be a rule the user created causing an issue as I have turned the rule off in Outlook web access and now the Outlook app is loading without issue. Oddly I tried deleting the rule and it started crashing again so had to recreate it and turn it off to resolve the issue which is something I cannot yet and probably will never be able to explain.

Hi there 1 member of staff has reported that he is unable to open Outlook (2019) on his office PC. It closes immediately after opening. At first I thought just a profile issue however when this did not resolve it I noticed the issue appears no matter what PC he uses in school. We use Office 365 and had a similar issue a year or so ago for which the view mode had changed and once put back via Outlook web access fixed the issue but in this case settings via Outlook web access look to be normal. I have also noticed Outlook opens fine Outside of school using Outlook 365... Thanks in advance Adam

Hi there We have just had this today completely out of the blue so I will post resolution for future reference. mscomctl.ocx did not seem to be in the c:\windows\syswow64 directory on any machine other than the SIMS server which is odd as the Exams Manager said it worked just yesterday. Anyway we just copied the file from the SIMS server to the same directory on his PC and registered the file using command prompt to resolve the issue. Only thing I can think happened is a windows update could have run that removed this file but it will have to remain a mystery. Just for reference though Microsoft state in documentation on their own website that mscomctl.ocx is not shipped with Windows but is a supported file so I wonder if the SIMS installation places it in the directory but a Windows update removed it in our case because it is the only plausible explanation I can think of...

Hi there Thanks for the quick reply, my Unifi Console is fully up to date. I have tested a laptop for my own piece of mind and the VPN is not connecting internally so it does not look like the issue but I will still look into this just in case of a random issue. Where in DNS did you find the record you removed as I am not sure where I would find it if it does exist? Thanks again Adam

Hi there I also use both Unifi wireless system and have just configured Always On VPN and have what sounds like the same issue with the XG dropping user authentication and have been troubleshooting this for weeks. Any pointers in terms of a resolution would be much appreciated as I am really baffled by this. Many Thanks Adam Clarke

Hi there I have been troubleshooting an issue which seems almost identical to this for weeks. Could you explain what you did to resolve it please? We have UniFi wireless system and Always On VPN. My UniFi system is fully up to date in terms of firmware. Many Thanks Adam Clarke

Hi All We currently have an Aerohive system based on the HiveManager classic controller which is about to go end of life thus we are looking for options to replace. I have setup a UniFi controller and am currently testing it before I make the decision to buy access points and make the move. I have a couple of questions for those more familiar with the UniFi controller: 1. As you cannot specify VLAN 1 when creating a new NETWORK is this because the default network is set to use VLAN 1? This is my assumption thus I have simply edited the default network. 2. I will need to create 2 WiFi networks, 1 which uses RADIUS authentication for all school users and a separate one for guests to use in a building which is open to the public. Issue is If I enable Captive Portal on the RADIUS authenticated network to allow the ability to redirect to a URL that contains the HTTPS certificate I can then not have a separate Captive portal configuration for my guest network which wants to be configured for terms of use acceptance. It does not appear to have the feature for captive portal policies and I am not entirely sure of a workaround without 3rd party onboarding. Is there any way around this, possibly on the RADIUS authenticated network the ability to redirect to a URL without enabling the Captive Portal may achieve this but is it possible as I cannot find any useful options? Many thanks in advance Adam

Strange because logically you would think it would be visible and therefore possible to remove or add like any other app you may have pinned. I found the below which contradicts this theory but ultimately it is what it is now because I don't have the time or patience to chase Microsoft for clarity. Issue it it makes troubleshooting much more difficult when issue like this occurs because you do not know if what you are seeing is normal or not unless it is properly documented somewhere... https://microsoftteams.uservoice.com/forums/599053-schools-and-universities/suggestions/31283260-ability-to-remove-the-assignment-tab#:~:text=If%20you're%20not%20planning,for%20everyone%20in%20your%20tenant.

Quick update, the assignments tab has all of a sudden reappeared and I am hoping it remains this way. For clarity though I have noticed the Assignments App is still not listed as a pinned app within the global policy so my question is now is this normal? Would you mind having a look at your global policy in the Teams Admin Center under Teams Apps\Setup Policies and let me know if the assignments App is supposed to show up in here or not otherwise I suspect I still have an issue on some level...
-
The agent said that they used the same workaround for you that I said I did not want which is to edit the app permissions policy and allow the assignments app but block everything else. I suspect however that he is not being entirely truthfull...
-
Like I said before absolutely useless, they only wanted to do a workaround by editing the APP Permissions policy to allow the Assignments App and block everything else which I would rather not do. They have said an actual fix for the issue has no specific timeframe and the ticket must be closed in the meantime because support tickets can not be left open for more then 5 days. What the heck...
-
Thankyou, I really appreciate this. I have found the agents I have dealt with in the past to be useless. Quite often they have no idea whatsoever...
-
Thankyou, I would really appreciate it as I have found the support rep I have spoken to very unhelpful.

Hi there We have just noticed today that the assignments tab in Teams for all users has dissapeared. In the Teams Admin Center everyone currently has the default global policy applied however I have noticed this policy does not have the Assignments App within it and I am unable to add it in as it does not come up as an option when searching for it. Under manage apps I can see however that the assignments spp is ALLOWED. Has anyone come across this as I have put a ticket in with Microsoft but they are being useless and have no clue? I assume it is supposed to be listed as a pinned app within the policy. Odd thing is that when editing a policy a message pops up stating that because we have educational licenses applied to our users the assignments app should be added to new policies by default however it is not either for the default or for a new one... Thanks in advance Adam

Hi there I have just built a new failover cluster with 3 hosts and need to get through cluster validation. I am using an Fujitsu DX100 SAN attached using ISCSI directly to the hosts. In the validation report under "List Cluster Volumes" it has a warning stating there is no free space on either volume. Obviously these volumes are offline for the validation test as the storage portion cannot be run while the volumes are online so does anyone know what I need to do to supress this warning? The 2 volumes in question are the Quorum and CSV... Many thanks in advance Adam

Hi there Since Windows 10 v1803 we have had the option to "Show text suggestions as I type" and "Autocorrect words as I type" for hardware keyboard. I have enabled these options however when testing it works fine in Notepad, Wordpad and stick Notes however it does not work at all in Office apps such as Word or Outlook which is what I am trying to get working. I have seen on Youtube a video of someone enabling these options and testing it in Word thus it obviously should work however I cannot work out why it is not in my case. We are using Office 2016 if this helps. Many thanks Adam

Hi ADMaster, our 2012 R2 file server was unable to access shared drives and was throwing up spurious errors upon login. I can't remember exactly what the error messages were but it was fairly clear they were permissions related and thus turning off Admin Approval Mode resolved the issue.
-
We have just started deploying our Windows 10 1809 base image and also had the issue of 10 minute first logon for Domain Admin account only. Issue was resolved by enabling the GPO "Admin Approval Mode for Built in Admin Account". We skipped Server 2016 and started deploying Server 2019 and I can confirm that it is also required on Server 2019 for certain functionality to work and probably 2016 aswell. Be careful if setting this GPO as standard for all servers though as certain Server 2012 R2 setups do not play well with Admin Approval mode enabled and file servers are one of these thus I turn on this GPO for new servers manually but set it to apply to workstations automatically...

Going from Server 2012r2 to 2019 and in-place upgrade
aac replied to TwistedHelixis's topic in Windows Server 2019
I would advise highly against this. Your SIMS SQL server will not be supported by Capita if running on Windows Server 2019. It would work though, I wish Capita would be quicker at supporting new server platforms because I would like to upgrade mine but see no point now until Capita officially support it. Our LA will not support any server running as either SIMS client or SIMS server because of this. I do however have a server running Windows Server 209 Standard with the SIMS client on it and it works perfectly fine...
