We currently have a suite of Mac Minis in the music room. They are now pushing ten years old. All they use them for is Sibelius and Garageband. We have the Windows version of Sibelius, and the teacher has found https://edu.bandlab.com/ which he quite likes as an alternative to Garageband. Which route do you take? The one which actually works in a school environment nice and easily, or the one which, as far as I know is still, the industry standard? I know there are people out there who will say Macs work, but not as easily as just buying a Windows box and banging a standard image on it. If Macs should ideally be used as they are better for that and it's good to get the kids used to something different then that is the route I would go, but at the same time I don't want to just use them because they are shiny and Macs so they must be better. The music teacher isn't fussed, he just wants something that works. Thoughts? Thank you

We absolutely had the same experience with them. We are now with BioStore and were quite happy, but the helpdesk we call now seems to have been shipped off overseas and they simply take notes and log a ticket. No troubleshooting at all. We are going to query this with them as that is not what we agreed to when we signed up!

I think essentially it doesn't matter where it points to, so long as the location it is pointing to exists and the user trying to use FMS has full control over it.

Hi all, Currently having a discussion with our IT teacher about what scripts students should and shouldn't be able to run under a regular student log in. We have always provided a VM for Visual Basic to be taught. I would like them to use this to also run .js, .bat files, and similar. What do others do nowadays? What about the "Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications" for writing macros etc. as part of office? Thank you Stuart

Always the way!! I've now found it of course..... Ozone Release This printer produces ozone during normal operation. The amount of ozone produced is dependent on copy volume. Ozone is heavier than air and is not produced in amounts large enough to harm anyone. Install the printer in a well-ventilated room.

Wasn't sure which forum to put this in, but this one seemed fairly relevant; We have been told by a couple of people (who are not experts in these things) that we shouldn't have someone in the same room as the large repro MFD due to the ozone it chucks out, one says he can actually feel it on his lungs. I can't find a definitive "rooms should be this big", "rooms should be vented by this methoed" or other helpful things, and there is nothing in the bumpf that the manufacturer have sent through to back this up. Does anyone know, and if so, where can I find the evidence so that I can present it please? Thank you Stuart

My brother once had someone ask him if he was installing a rectal scanner, meaning a retinal scanner, so maybe they are going that way?

Got bored so killed it. Tried to do it a partition at a time and it did the same thing. I think I'll revert to good ol' "copy as much data off as possible to a temporary place, and then copy it to the new disk and try and recreate the shares".

I'm at one of those "How long do I leave it" moments........ Put the new disk in, booted to CloneZilla and cloned the drive. It did most of it and then said it wasn't going to do one of the partitions as it was pending a scandisk from Windows. Booted up to Windows and let it scan the disk while booting. Booted back to CloneZilla and told it to clone the disk again (using -rescue) and it has now stopped at "Saving OS info from the device..." before it actually gets to the screen where it does the cloning. Been about 20 minutes now! So; How long do I leave it?

I don't go on computer name, I just shutdown every IP address in the DHCP scope, but not at 15:30 in the afternoon!

We are currently looking at refreshing our MFDs as we are now out of our five year lease. AltoDigital with Xerox and HP machines have come in cheapest. Any opinions on them? Thank you Stuart

In one of my local primaries, they have a server which was setup by the LA. It has 2x 500GB hard disks in it. Disk 0 is the C drive, Disk 1 is partitioned with two partitions; one for SIMS data and one for documents. Disk 1 has bad sectors on it now so I figured the simplest thing to do is simply clone the drive across to a new disk. Anyone recommend a (free) bit of cloning software that will cope with there being bad sectors and not just go "There's bad sectors so I'm stopping"? Thank you Stuart P.S. I have also considered shrinking the C drive down to 150GB, then creating two partitions in the remaining space and putting the data on there, then RAIDing it with the new disk, but time won't allow.
