1. Thank you this great, just what i was after.
2. Hi All, Im looking for the best chrome book for use with Primary Students. I'm getting mixed reports from suppliers. I like the Look of the ASUS Chromebook C202SA 4GB Cel-N3060 - https://www.asus.com/uk/Laptops/ASUS-Chromebook-C202SA/ - They look really robust and child friendly. I'm also hearing that the Dell Chromebook 11 (3180) 4GB Cel-N3060 are also good. Has any one used both these devices, or can any one offer me advice on the Best Chrome Book any model? I am thinking battery life and build quality are the two most important things? Last question is a 16gb ssd enough or would anyone advise 32gb? Thanks in advance
3. Do you use 356 or GAPS! Uploading via the dive app is seamless for us!
4. Also Id only ever buy new disks for a live environment! Id use referb/second-hand for a test lab or a workstation - but servers, never! There should always be enough money in the pot to stick to best practices, if not you need to persuade management to why you should! Some times easer said that done, worth it though!
5. Is your DC already virtual? If its not, I wouldn't go adding disks to set up an RDS! That is just a BAD idea!
6. Same with me! Iv just spoken with Microsoft 0344 800 2400 (option 4) Looks like they are working on it, they hope missing downloads and keys will be back soon! Windows 10 will be available from the VLC from the 1st!
7. Just re-read your question!! Within AD what do you set under your users profile tab .... Home folder?
8. Id personally Start again with permissions, therefore doing a basic robocopy to your new server. Recreate the shares using the rmtshare.exe and last off add your user permissions using xcacls.exe - both are Microsoft tools. You need to create a .csv to do this you need to output your directory foldernames to a .txt via cmd. I can send you some more info if required.
9. Somehow..... I'd had totally forgotten that screen:-)
10. Take a look what i've just dug out, does anybody remember using these? First time installed it, I was lucky enough to have it on CD!!
11. Just a quickie! For those that use BitLocker, what make and model laptop's are you buying? The best I have found is this Lenovo, http://www.misco.co.uk/product/2162383/Lenovo-ThinkPad-E540-Intel-Core-i3-4100M-15-6inch-HD-500GB-DVDplus-RW-DL-Windows-7-Professional-64-preload-Windows-8-1-Pro64-RDVD-Laptop-Notebook-PC Cheers
12. I'm from Just near Tadcaster - Sherburn - In - Elmet. We have just bought our first house in York. So yea, not too far at all Cheers
13. Iv quickly changed the IP address on the Softlink Oliver, the IP taken from a server I host the intranet and a few SEN apps. Theses are all internal apps that don't require any out side connection. Low and behold I can now ping Google and telnet to the required z-cataloging sites. Looking good! The funny thing is Iv already tried three other Static Ip's - Im sure these were free from been used else where, i think they were old switches that are now extinct. None of them would let me ping out! In theory any Ip I use should be at least be able to ping Google if the proxy and IP protocol settings are correct. Ill check my serves and see how my others statics behave! Not to mention my DHCP workstations! Ill do some more digging with the Statics that's wont let me ping out, maybe a question for the smoothwall bunch or our LA. They keep seem to be changing things around, can never be sure where to point the figure. Can I thank you all for assistance, it is always much appreciated. I see we're all Yorkshire, cheers guys. Giles
14. Yea, we use our smoothwall/proxy internal ip & port for our workstations and some servers! With exception of using a different port that bypasses the filtering when adding the Ip in the exceptions list within smoothwall. Iv tried various combinations, obviously we can browse the net fine! The default gateway is set to the smoothwall as on all our other Servers/Workstations! Cheers Guys, ill try change the IP on the server one last time! I'm cracking up, it should just work! Giles
15. Yea internal pings and look-ups work a treat! Ill try change the Ip to address of a server I can take down for the day, this server can definitely ping google fine. After that ill see what the LA say!
16. C:\Users\administrator.CANONLEE>tracert 8.8.8.8 Tracing route to google-public-dns-a.google.com [8.8.8.8] over a maximum of 30 hops: 1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms schoolguardian.canonlee.york.sch.uk [?.?.?.?] 2 schoolguardian.canonlee.york.sch.uk [?.?.?.?] reports: Destination pro tocol unreachable. Ping statistics for 8.8.8.8: Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss), C:\Users\administrator.CANONLEE> The picture I attached was supposed to be a tracert and ping report to 8.8.8.8. As above, The ?.?.?.? are the smooth walls internal IP. We use Hyper-V Iv just realised when I do the same ping from another server on the same Hyper-V host I get the following. C:\Users\administrator.CANONLEE>ping 8.8.8.8 Pinging 8.8.8.8 with 32 bytes of data: Reply from 8.8.8.8: bytes=32 time=9ms TTL=44 Reply from 8.8.8.8: bytes=32 time=8ms TTL=44 Reply from 8.8.8.8: bytes=32 time=7ms TTL=44 Reply from 8.8.8.8: bytes=32 time=12ms TTL=44 Ping statistics for 8.8.8.8: Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss), Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds: Minimum = 7ms, Maximum = 12ms, Average = 9ms C:\Users\administrator.CANONLEE> Why the smoothwall wont let the tracert get further than the smoothwall, i don't know!! Cheers, Giles
17. Hi guys I am in-between Virtualisation our estate. Iv only got a few more servers to bring over. Last week I started with a vinillar build 2012 server ready to install a few apps on. These apps been 4matrix, our spicewoks desktop and Softlink's Oliver. 4matrix, Spiceworks were easy, working fine. Softlink remotely installed Oliver, they ran into a few difficulties installing SQL 2012, so resorted to 2008 instead! Oliver seemed to be installed and working, until our librarian informed me that Z-cataloging was not working. (Z-cataloging, takes the books ISBN number, and pulls info from a list of sites - that provide information for the Oliver system... eg the blurb, book title, author and so on) So we have a smoothwall controlled by the LEA, we have limited access. I usually pop the IP off our severs in to the exceptions list, bypassing any filtering. Via a browser Http traffic works as it should. The server Is set up no different to any of the others, static ip reserved for my servers and switches. Windows server update to date , firewall off, UCA set to never notify and Trend Office scan installed. So here is the bizarre part, I cant Ping or Trccert google - or anything really! I have tried all the obvious, checked over DNS, flushing the DNS. Remove and re-added the NIC, assigned a different IP and so on. I have relocated Spiceworks and 4Matrix to a new server just in case there was conflict there! Some times when I reboot, or say change the Ip. It lets me then ping google, this is not for long though! A few minutes down the line it then comes back same the result in the image. Its a tricky one this! I have no idea to could be causing this. All suggestions welcome. Many thanks, Giles

21. This is the email i received from lightspeed....... Google has recently made changes to how YouTube operates, requiring additional domains to be allowed in order to properly view Youtube videos. If these changes have affected your policies and your ability to view YouTube videos, follow the steps described below. Follow these steps to update policies so they can operate with the new YouTube functionality: 1. Log into the Rocket appliance. 2. In the dashboard click Web Filter. 3. Under Policies click URL Patterns. 4. Click New List. 5. Enter a meaningful name. 6. Optional. Enter a description. 7. Enter the following URLs: googlevideo.com/crossdomain.xml googlevideo.com/videoplayback youtube-nocookie.com
8. Click Save. 9. Under Policies click Policy Management. 10. Click Rule Sets. 11. Perform Steps a through e on every rule set where you have allowed YouTube and every rule set where you have blocked YouTube but allowed YouTube.edu. a. Click the rule set you want to update. b. Scroll down to URL Patterns. c. Check (select) the URL pattern you created above. d. Select Allow from the dropdown list. e. Click Save. In some cases, it may be necessary for end users to clear their cache for these changes to take effect. For more information, view the wiki article at:
22. I was told by an Apple Certified System Administrator if you have purchased the licences... apple will know this. He said its fine to just use one with your MDM. This way if you find your self with a broken device you can sling it, and not need to worry about losing the licensed apps to that particular piece of hardware. I hope he was right, not that were bothered as we have nothing to hide. :-)
23. We don't import our redemption codes into configurator! We just use one code to get the app and then let our MDM (lightspeed) push the app to the device - as many times as we like. Have you guys got 100 devices? i couldn't imagine a 100 without using an MDM.
24. Thank you all, this is all great help. Enjoy your holidays if you get some
25. Hello everyone We are in the testing phase with Google Apps, its working great and hope to start rolling out in September. I am just wondering where you guys are with Safeguarding. As we plan on updating policy's along with acceptable use agreements and I'm hoping to advise our SLT on what the best way to deal with Safeguarding. Have you implemented any extra software solutions to help keep track on email content and so on? Or have you just left the Students and staff to get on with it? As much information as possible would be great. Thank you.
