We have 3 Riso 3050s in our school. They were a pain to set up and take up 2 network points and 5 power sockets each they had trouble with the cheaper paper we used to buy and now have to order in much higher quality paper and seem very sensitive to the paper you use. The quality of the printing is not as good as our older copiers anything with pictures on it looks very poor. They also do not have a paper cut driver ,which is being worked on, so the printing is not being managed at the minute. They are huge and make a lot of noise but they can print out our weekly newsletter in half the time of our old machines. All in all they are pretty good for printing out lots of pages quickly.

Yes we sadly still have them. Often given to spouses or children to use and only brought back to school when they have been destroyed.

We are a primary school and its used from KS1 to the end of KS2. Its quite visual with lots of bright colours for the children avatars and loud positive and negative noises for when the child is praised or disciplined. It works really well with the younger children because of this. I'm not sure how well this would work with older children in secondary however. In the end its the same as wall charts we had when I was in primary school with ticks and crosses on that has a much bigger impact because of the noise and how visual it is.

The teachers in our school use it within class to manage behavior. It is used along with table point/house point system but for the individual child. It has its own iPad app now which is nice for when teachers are out of the classroom and still want to have some reward scheme with them immediately. It does have some limitations in that you cannot move children between classes for things like setting groups.

You should enable Verbose status messages which is a group policy setting you can enable. I cannot remember where it is set right now sorry. This should let you know which policy`s are being applied and which ones are taking a while to apply. I have found before I disabled and removed offline files from out Windows 7 clients they would very often hang on policy such as folder redirection and and applying printer policy's. Are they wireless clients?

It is possible. I was having a look at some of the smooth wall filtering box`s last year and some of those allowed you to fail over to a 3G connection which you could then set up certain priorities and restrictions for if you wished.

We experienced this when we upgraded all the laptops in school from xp to win 7. Folder redirection kept not applying here which in my case was a problem with offline files that i had not disabled for the students laptops. I applied the GPO to disable offline files and flushed the offline file cash on the student machines affected and this resolved the issue. An important policy to apply is always wait for the network at log on. Sometimes if the machines have not been shutdown and go into sleep or hibernate the network card is not enabled again. In power options in windows 7 there is a way to stop this behavior. If i find any more of my notes I made ill post them back but I have not yet managed to get our Windows 7 laptops down to the logon times we had when we were using XP.

We have just recently given out iPads to 2 year groups in our primary school in a 1 to 1 scheme for those year groups. We tested out the uses of the iPads in a single class last year and the feedback from the teachers was great as they greatly improved the children ability's and are an incentive for them as well to help with their concentration. The past month has been interesting as some teachers have been quicker to warm to the iPads than others but from what we can see the children are enjoying them and the teachers are finding them useful learning tools as well as helping with behavior management of the children. Cons for them from my point of view is how expensive they are and management of them is tricky especially at the scale we have deployed them at. We have had a few issues of children wanting to take them home and luckily none have been dropped and have been looked after quite well. We made sure to put across to the children that these are their devices to look after for the year and they have taken to it well.

Rather than giving the pupils here access to contol panel, I have disabled them being able to use anything on the taskbar, I created a shotcut to the sound and volume controls on their redirected desktops. The shortcut is too c:\windows\system32\sndvol.exe I believe.

An upgrade for the firmware is on the cards but wont be any time soon. If I get a computer that is having the issue and plug ina network lead the wireless connects almost immediatley after. Which could be a problem with DHCP and the wireless trying to get an ip adress.

I have had a look at the hotfixes and the profiles not being deleted completley and DHCP problem do apply to a few machines i have seen. However with my problem of computers not joining the wireless they have not helped. I have discovered that when the machine cannot join the wireless it can remain attempting to connect indefinetly but I plug in a newtwork lead and get onto the network that way the machine joins the wireless automaticaly. Do you have any thoughts as to what this coould be?

I have made sure to set up automaticly connect to the wireless on startup and even if the network is not broadcasting. All the APs are using the same encryption the clients i have had to rejoin to the wireless i have not had to change which authentication type they are using. If the client and the AP are using different authentication types then it will stop the connection all together and not allow you to attempt it I think. Thank you for the suggestions.

Yes through the network and sharing centre. I dont have a wireless utility on the machines.

Since the laptops are all connected to the domain the connection type is changed to domain and the usrs cannot change this. I will check next time im told one of them has done this and see if the connection type is changing for some reason and see if there is a way of enforcing which connection type ot use.

Hello everyone I think this is the best forum for the problem I am having. I have recently upgraded all of our computers to Windows 7 and since then I have been having issues with wireless clients accessing the network. The worst of these is some of our netbooks that the students use will not connect to the wireless when they startup. When and why this happens I cannot figure out sometimes a machine can boot up and a user can log on fine. Other times on the same machine after starting the machine up the machine will not connect to the wireless untill I log in as the local administrator or a user whos profile is already cached on the machine and manualy connect to the wireless and it is fine then untill it decides to not connect again. I have upgraded them to the newest version of the drivers and tested a few of the previous versions of the drivers. The machines were all given at least 2Gb of RAM as part of the upgrade to windows 7. I have disabled power managment on the wireless cards as Windows 7 sometimes likes to turn off the card to save power. I have thought it may be the wireless profile corrupting but simply clicking connect fixes the issue and I do not have to re-enter any credentials so I do not think this is the case. I have also hears that sometimes anti-viruses (we use Sophos) can sometimes disable the network card on startup but this problem happens on machine that have no anti virus installed. The wireless adapter is enabled and the light shows it as enabled aswell. I am really stuck as to why this is happening or how to resolve this. Any thoughts as to what this issue is would be appreciated.

Sorry I cannot help you much further then. Our switches are managed by our local authority and we dont have access to them so spiceworks cannot do anything with the switches. Although ours do map correctly. Im sorry i cant help any more.

Is spiceworks authenticating to the switches correctly? If it cannot authenticate to a device it will not give you any details about it.

Got home to play and it seemed they took the servers down. Went off and caught up with the latest episode of Game of Thrones and they were back up and working fine and the hour or so i got to play was really fun its a shame the servers were so instable for the first day but its not acceptable for them to have these troubles but i can understand why they would.

Would definetly go for the SSD over a slightly improved CPU. The difference between a SSD and a HDD really did shock me the first time i got one.

We have a Microboards G3 to print on our DVDs. It has a nasty habit of dieing at the slightest hiccup but it gets the job done. You can set up a print job and feed it 50 DVDs it will burn and print them for you.

I have been having this issue as well but not only on both physical and virtual servers but on our desktops as well. Even a freshly created user who has no GPOs applied to them seems to have this issue although in all cases it is intermittent.

I did this and the N+ before i got into my first job and i can say that if you are starting out in the industry for the first time they will be of some help to get your employers to notice you. The contents of the courses are good for people just starting to get into IT aswell and want to gain some knowledge.

I have been having trouble with Windows 7 logon and logoff times with our laptops connected to the wireless. I understand they will take much longer than a desktop to logon because of using roaming profiles over the wireless. However they have been hanging on please wait for the user profiles service on log on or log off sometimes to the point that they just have to be restarted and attempt to log in again with them. I have enabled verbose mode to show me what GPOs this could be affecting but this seems to happen before any of the settings are applied as once it waits for a few minutes at waiting for the user profiles service the rest of the GPO settings can be seen to apply fairly swiftly and the rest of the log on process goes though without any bother. I would be thankfull for any thoughts on what could be happening as it has been bugging me for a while. Thanks.
