Either use the Server 2012 KMS key or make a virtual PC as your KMS host with the Windows 7 KMS key And don't forget to use the KMS client keys on the clients - a mistake I made once was using a HP OEM disc to install the clients and wondering why none of my clients were contacting the KMS host..

Yep that was definitely my next test . Wouldn't have thought that quantity of laptops should struggle with that though but it's definitely worth a try!

No not using DFS. And using Wireless yes. Have triple checked they are on latest drivers, have even tried a brand new Wireless AP with the same issue.

Yep also on 2003 shares here. Do you find that logging in with less laptops the problem doesn't occur? Ours seems to be anywhere between 10-20 laptops logging in and say 6-7 won't redirect folders. But a simple log-off and log-on and they work fine. Also I haven't seen anything in the logs to suggest an obvious problem, but it's very annoying now! I've tried creating new profile (All using mandatory), creating a whole new GPO for folder redirection using Win 7 RSAT Tools, nothing!

Hi Jamo; It does seem like it's timing out that's for sure. I also notice that the laptops that don't redirect tend to reach the desktop first, as if they just give up and go to the desktop. The ones that take longer actually seem to bother redirecting the folders!

Hi all Have had a problem for a while now with Windows 7 and folder redirection. Have a trolley of laptops in a classroom connected to a wireless AP dedicated for them. The laptops used to be on XP and had no problems. Since sticking Windows 7 on them - I've had all sorts of problems. Basically if i login more than 10 laptops at a time, it's almost guaranteed a random amount of laptops won't redirect folders. However if i then logoff and log straight back in, the folders redirect. Have currently got Desktop, Start Menu and Document to redirect. If i login less than 10, they work every time, no problem. It's also not specific to which laptops don't redirect, it's always random. Any one had anything similar? Or anything you can suggest I try because i'm fresh out of ideas other than installing another AP and splitting the laptops between the two.

I went through the tedious way of adding \Documents - to the end of the students home directory path and manually copying all their files into the new folder. Took me half a day but now no more problems.

Are all the NIC drivers fully up to date? And i assume you have the "Always Wait for the network at computer startup and logon" GPO enabled? Otherwise i'd try and isolate the problem as such. Is it only affecting certain PCs in the room? Also check the event logs and see if anything shows up in there

Hi all Thanks for the replies. This turned out to be a problem with the Wireless AP in the classroom. A simple restart of the AP seems to have done the trick for now. Logins are now generally under a minute for all 10 Windows 7 Laptops, which i'm quite content with!

Hi Dom thanks for the reply Sorry i forgot to add - I have created Windows 7 mandatory profiles (.v2 profiles) I will try plugging some into the wall, unfortunately it's such a small school, the most i can plug in at one point is 5! I'll also check the event viewer - although I don't remember seeing anything out the ordinary before. Another thing I have remembered is that sometimes the desktops don't actually redirect, like the laptop just gives up trying and logs in without redirecting it.

Hi all; Stuck this in the Windows 7 section purely because I didn't have this problem with XP Basically one of the Primary Schools i visit have a laptop trolley with it's own dedicated Wireless AP in the classroom. I have, in the last few weeks, been putting windows 7 on these laptops, which orignally had XP. The students have mandatory profiles (About 2mb big) with redirected desktops, start menu and documents. There are 20 laptops in the trolley, I have so far only put Windows 7 on 10 of these. However since doing this, the logon times for the Windows 7 machines are SO slow it's unreal. Can literally take up to 15 minutes if all logging in at the same time. If I log one or two laptops in, they login fairly quickly (30 seconds). The wireless drivers are all up to date - So i don't understand why changing to Windows 7 would cause the login times to be so slow. Any one have any ideas? If it helps I have turned on Verbose status messages and it typically gets stuck at "Waiting for the User Profile Service" TIA.
