  1. Hello all, Just been having a think. Always used to be two of us here and the workload was managable but now im down to just myself in the IT department and it doesnt look like were getting anyone else in as far as ive been told. Im just after some evidence or advice to present to the powers that be. Admitedly as im now the only one here my pay has gone up but the number of hours in the day hasnt and I cant be in two places at once and its being expected of me... Im just getting drowned in work at the minute. Miss being able to just focus on a project and leave the day to day support to someone else while it gets done. Currently we have 750 kids 70+ staff 100+ desktops 200 laptops 120 chrome books 200 iPads and a dozen servers + copiers etc for me to look after. Any of you go through something similar or have any advice? Thanks
  2. Thanks ill have to check those out and get the staff to actually use it...
  3. Hello all, Ive made my return to IT support in education after working for a small MSP for a while. One thing I really loved using there was the CRM system which kept track of tickets and projects you created. I was just wondering if anyone has any experiance using similar software preferably ona budget within schools? Were a school of baout 800 kids and have just become a MAT and im sure I will be involvd with the other school before long so would like to have somewhere to have all my thoughts and keep track of projects im working on, rather than on a piece of paper. Thanks
  4. I think we should be more leniant with children taking time off. Maybe reduce holidays so we dont have whole chunks of time with kids doing nothing. I had a few days where I didnt go to school because I was "sick" and I remember those experiances very well big family holidays with the whole family and going off to help on a family friends farm in lambing season particularly.
  5. Thats pretty good. We always used to remiage straight away when I worked in school. In my new job I end up having to support machines that are purchased then put straight on the domain and the Lenovos are always the biggest pain. Just having a little rant.
  6. Dont think I would trust Lenovos after the amount of times theyve been caught doing shady things in recent times. The amount of Crap they have preinstalled as well doesnt help.
  7. We use Acello and it allows you to allocate time on your tickets and set up and assign projects to yourself or other team members for them to complete.
  8. We have just had a class set arrive and deployed them yesterday. The licensing was included with the Chromebooks from our supplier. If you give google a call they can get you in touch with suppliers for the licenses and will help with any sort of management of them you require. We will see how they go with our class set of them. The rest of the year group has iPads 1 to 1 and they are a nightmare to manage or create anything on.
  9. Thanks all. Its not really dawned on me yet leaving. Ive been in touch with my new boss a lot and he thinks from his impression after a couple of phone calls and interviews that I will be able to adjust. If anything it will be a change. Ive found I have got too comfortable in school.
  10. Hey guys, handed in my notice today and moving on from working in school for 5 years to work at a small IT company in the big scary real world. Just like to thank you all for the help over the years I may not post that actively but I end up getting a lot of useful information from the site. I'm sure ill still lurk here once I go! Thanks again. Has anyone got any useful tips from anyone else that's made the change? Also im sure my boss will post the Job in the correct section once its advertised if anyone is after an IT job in Birmingham let them know.
  11. Darkest Dungeon!! It came out of early access a month ago I think now and I have spent way to much time on it recently.
  12. Just saw the pizza, very jealous. We have a load of us from school coming this year. I remember last year cocktails being given out somewhere last year is that still around? Ill have to come and get a new lanyard as my old one has been misplaced.
  13. Instead of gunnars you could use F.lux i use it at work and at home and its helps a bunch. You can install it on android as well, so if you are silly like me and stay up all night on your tablet instead of sleeping at least your eyes don't hurt.
  14. Got 830. Nearly all of them too early.
  15. Yeah we've had a couple of all weekend Apocalypse battle in 40k and they have been a blast as well as a run a campaign where we wrote ongoing story's after each game, it was great fun. a few of my friends got into x wing while I got into flames of war which is also great for a quick evening game and not too expensive to get into. What did you think of age of Sigmar? We couldn't get into it and kept to fantasy in our group.
  16. Yeah this stuff has got kind of silly. Which is great for me and my mates who have been playing for 10+ years and have at least 1500pts of basically every army each. For new players it seems as though Games Workshop are pricing new people out of their products. Luckily there are loads of great smaller games to play but 40K and Fantasy always feel to me like the top dogs regardless. Me and my group have recently got back into fantasy and with the release of the Betrayal at Calth boxed set we have been buying them together and splitting them as they give a quite decent deal for getting into 30K. We also got into a smaller skirminsh game called this is not a test, which is similar to GorkaMorka and Necromunda but set in a fallout style post apocalyptic real world.
  17. Our Impero renewal is coming up and to convince my boss to spend the money for it and fill in some concerns about logging internet usage on the iPads I am trying to get this working. Does anyone know if when deployed the app is allowed to run in the background or can the children just close down the application?
  18. Yeah Ive been building up from white. Starting with a strong base yellow with a brown wash over the top then a couple of layers of progressively lighter yellows, I will get it eventually. Ive got the GW yellow glaze that's supposed to help the yellows blend together a bit. Ive only used it on my devastator squad and they have come out a nice solid yellow.
  19. Hey guys, just thought id show off my latest 40K army I have started. you can see pics here https://imgur.com/a/wtcvE With the new codex for space marines I decided to start an Imperial First army. Its been interesting to paint so far, yellow is a bit tricky to get to the stage I like it. To make up for yellow being hard to paint and being inspired by a picture of a battle damaged and smashed up Imperial Fist Ive tried to make these look like they have been fighting for some time. So far they have been my favorite army to work on. Ive got about 3000 points of Blood Angels painted and about 200 points of Eldar. Hope youve enjoyed having a look.
  20. Daryl is not in the comics. Hes a great second in command/right hand man/brother for Rick in the show which the comics lacks.
  21. I have had my ups and downs with it. Season 2 was rough and before one particular character is removed in the prison I was struggling to watch their scenes. The comics are even better if you get the chance to read them I would recommend it it greatly. Its great to spot little homages to the comics in the TV show as well.
  22. I can recommend The Banner Saga on iPad. Great game with a very touching story with some great moments and characters you fall in love with.
  23. Pillars of Eternity should be out in March. Cant wait for it. I was brought up on Baldurs gate 1 and 2 and Ice Wind Dale and all those games. Social life and sleep cycle on hold once its out.
  24. Just seen that SIMS can do this sort of thing so I will investigate that. The little green button looks really good. I just phoned them and apparently they have IOS application coming for it soon which im sure will do down well with SLT.
  25. Morning guys, I have been asked to look into setting up a panic button for our reception area. At many times there is only one lady in the office, who after a few issues with parents, is now feeling insecure when alone. I was asked to have a discreet button that when pressed sends an alert to some key members of staff, I was thinking by text message. Does anyone know of anyone in the UK that does these. I have seen some PC based panic buttons but they only seemed to message other PCs and since most of our SLT run OSX were not suitable.
