Absolutely this... It 'might' help in that it will help pulling air in from outside increasing air flow in the loft and moving damp air, but if there isn't sufficient ventilation in the eaves of the roof (or tile vents etc.) it won't.

Well, I've had a root around in there and don't find it that much more intuitive... Also I can't really seem to find out what we're licensed for, unless I'm missing something very obvious. In 'Your Products' I can find all the products (O365) and under 'Volume Licensing' I can see 'Products and Services'/'Downloads & Keys', but this still seems to suffer the VLC issue of actually allowing you to download and use every MS product for at least the last 15 years or so... I can see 'Contracts' but these only state the 'License Pool' (OVS CAL Platform) not the actual products we're licensed to use... I can also see the 'Licenses' but these only appear to be O365... What am I missing? In VLSC you could actually see the details of the agreement, products (SQL Server, Server Standard, etc.) and numbers of licenses (although I know these didn't actually ever appear correct).

I think AirServer goes from iPad to computer/laptop, could be wrong (but that would be a good thing as we already have it). We were asked (and I think the OP wanted) to get the teacher's screen/projector image onto an iPad.

Posted a similar question a while ago and the question does pop up on here quite frequently... /forums/netbooks-pda-phones/235182-ipad-app-mirror-teachers-laptop.html So often you'd think it was a viable opportunity for someone to create a specific app (but maybe for a small developer working on something for a niche market with Apple may mean it's prohibitive)... I think the majority suggested TeamViewer, VNC, Teams, or something along those lines, with the caveat of reminding teachers to be careful what their screen is showing. I haven't got round to sorting it out yet though!

Our Business manager needs to review some CCTV but says viewing on the actual NVR box + monitor is awkward and he'd prefer to use the Web UI from their computer like he used to... I didn't set this up, so I think the CCTV installers had a Chrome shortcut which has now somehow disappeared. I asked him how they managed to do that as I said I always thought it need a 'LocalServiceComponents' plug-in installed by an administrator... Then I said that once the NVR's IP is set as a bookmark you'd need to log-in to the Web UI and they said that they just clicked the bookmark and it went straight in! Anyway, to set this up again for them, I'd need to install the plug-in and than set the IP as a bookmark in Chrome which is no problem, but I can't see any 'remember me' options on the log-in page, so is there any other way they could have achieved that?

I think the OP stated that the actual 'computer' does know what the time is... It seems the only issue is that the time isn't being displayed correctly on the taskbar. I don't use Windows 11, but can you double click on the taskbar time and does it open out into the usual time/calendar pop-up? A quick internet search does show a few results of people having the same problem (so at least you're not completely alone on this issue) but I haven't been through them. I know they've made a few changes to the clock in Windows 11 so maybe there's still a few bugs? Is it actually completely random, or can you tie down those with specific hardware (or software as @David44 says) or in OUs with certain GPOs/XMLs applying?

Thanks all, I may have to rethink this though as I'm guessing I have just shot myself in the foot.... Considering this is our recently mothballed ex-SIMS server and as I have only just cut over in the last couple of months I kept everything 'as is' in stasis and just disabled the SQL services for SIMS. But here's where I still don't get the terminology... If I wanted to keep the 'SQL Server (SIMS2014)' down but still use SQL for Veeam, how is that possible? It seems as if it should be...

Yeah, I was hoping it would do exactly that but I can't seem to find the part of the installer that does it! At that point it appears to be asking for the instance (provides the SIMS instance as default) and doesn't really appear to have anywhere to say 'tick a box to create a new one'... I 'could' clear out all other instances, however this was an old SIMS server (now dormant) and although I've now moved SIMS off to its own VM and it appears to be working OK, I'm a bit reticent (to say the least) of completely killing it 'just in case'... I mean who knows in a year or so if something happens and the answer to fix it lies in the files/settings/database sitting on that server and I've deleted everything... I'll keep trying to figure it out today, but is there anyway to 'make' an instance that I can point the Veeam installer to?

Thanks, I don't have any major issues with VLSC, it's a bit clunky and not very intuitive (although I don't have to use it very often, maybe once a year if that so it's not like I need it to be), but honestly that could be just me not understanding how MS licensing works... The only real trouble I've had was getting A1+ licenses, also when we changed reseller and for some reason they set up a whole new agreement using a very old email address that was still on file somewhere so it didn't show up on our original MVLSC account! But as you say, it's workable and at least I understood who had what access etc. As @MrEprise says It does raise some questions about those who signed up to it without having an O365 tenant though!

I've just had an email saying the Bursar is having trouble with the Nat West website and I've run a report which shows me the denied entries being 'HOST is an IP'. This is a blocked category in webscreen (I think by default, I don't usually have to mess with it though) and I'm not entirely sure why, but I just presume bad things come from such hosts... I could unblock this but obviously this leaves a security hole, so I could limit it to the IP of the Bursar's computer (but still a hole). Or I could possibly allow those IPs, but there's no guarantee they are static... and as they are IPs I'm not sure if it will work if I just unblock the Nat West 'website'...?

Could someone please explain how to add Veeam 'instance' to SQL please (Eli5). I have a Windows server, I have Microsoft SQL so when installing Veeam I just point somewhere and it creates a database, right?! Apparently not... Then I chose the default PostgreSQL and I'm having all sorts of issues with that because the server is too locked down or something... ('can't write to Temp and Script host isn't enabled')... So I just want this done as my WSB is failing and giving me general issues and thought Veeam was the way to go. I installed it on my other server and didn't seem to have this much hassle at the first hurdle (plenty more to come though I'm sure). It's an old SIMS server, so SQL is there still, but this seems to be the only 'instance' I can choose... obviously I don't want it there. The terminology always throws me too as I rarely ever look at SQL. HOST - Is the server (OS) SERVER - Is the SQL server INSTANCE - Is the ??? DATABASE - Is the database

As for Windows reinstalling the 'newer' drivers, do you have 'automatically install updated drivers' set? Also, you may not have any luck if they are coming from your Windows 'in-built' driver repository, but see if there's a tick box to delete the drivers when you are uninstalling.

Hopefully there's a quick and simple answer to what might be a 'stupid' question... I logged into MVLSC to get a Windows key and it said these are now in the M365 Admin Center. OK, so I log into that and find the key, but... now I think of it I'm not the only Admin of our MVLSC and what I'm actually logging into it with is one of our O365 tenants (not email - long story) admin account (which I used to set up MVLSC). How does 'Admin 2' (who was/is an admin in MVLSC) now log in to get Windows keys as they are not an admin (or even a user) in our O365 tenant...? If Microsoft are slowly ringing the death knell for MVLSC, going forward are we just going to manage all our licenses through the Admin Center?

That's funny, just installed Windows on a PC that was given to me by a friend and I was doing a lot of disk moving and swapping (basically keeping their old disk that they'd reset Windows on whilst I installed mine on a new disk, in case I needed any drivers etc.). I noticed they had Windows 'Home' version and thought it strange that an HP app appeared or that they had HP printer software and apps installed as this was the first time it had been booted and it certainly hadn't been connected to any printers! I'd just kind of written it off as some sort of Windows Home bloatware as I haven't actually used a Home version of Windows in many years.... at least I know what it was now.

Also it seemed to need RDP access enabling, users being added to the RDP group in AD, separate group in LGfL settings for bookmarks and username/password being pre-filled... didn't feel comfortable doing all that so I'm glad we don't need to use it, much prefer the pre-Windows auth VPN on the device. Strange thing is it only seems to happen after it's been installed a while. If I clear it out from the laptop (registry entry as it's installed from the server by GPO) and let it install again at the original version (I haven't updated the server version), when I then connect it will do the update fine every time. So it will be fine if it updates from a 'clean' install going from say 3 versions below... but it seems it has an issue going from one version below to the next (as in has had a previous update).

Years ago I had a Nokia phone which is an Android type thing I guess (I've never been into phones and didn't take a lot of notice). I don't really listen to music a lot on my phone but I create a lot of my own music and was really used to just connecting it up to the computer and dragging tracks across. I have to admit when I got my first iPhone (a hand-me-down from the OH) I really, really hated the fact that everything had to be done the 'Apple way' and required me to install iTunes onto my PC just to get music on my phone (and having to add the tracks to my 'Library' before doing that). Then it had to 'sync' everything and it just got very frustrating! you just have to learn to accept the Apple ecosystem... accept... accept... "It Just Works"... I haven't looked into it since, so don't know if it's any easier these days, I don't even bother trying and just play them from my Dropbox...

Well, I finally pulled the trigger on this one about a month ago (just the basic one, loft controls/no heater)... and it works! Even on the couple of minus degree nights we've had recently, there's only been a couple of mm or so condensation on the main bedroom window, which previously would have been full window and dripping. No condensation on any other windows, which would normally be in a similar state. However, although I'm really pleased with the results, I've got to say it is actually making the landing considerably cooler (even 'cold' according to the OH) and therefore kicking off the heating overnight. It's on 3 at the moment and really noticed the condensation building back up when I tried it a 2 for a couple of days. The heating overnight is set a 17 degrees which I think is just about manageable and I keep the thermostat in the bedroom to ensure that. Unfortunately we leave bedroom doors open due to dogs whining and scrabbling at them if they can't get in to cuddle up! I could leave the thermostat downstairs, but in a recent trial one night this allows the PIV to blow cold air in all night upstairs meaning we wake up to about 14 degrees (and this was before the really cold nights we are getting into now)... Reading a bit about it, I see a lot of people turning the heating off overnight and wondering why you would have it on anyway when you're in bed. Although I used to do that so I understand, I'm not sure the OH wouldn't appreciate it as she gets up at 06:00 to walk the dogs and now I think with the heating off overnight the PIV would really just make the upstairs gradually colder and colder. I also had started keeping the heating on overnight due to the cold/damp problems we were experiencing and it did seem to help, but maybe with the PIV now I don't have to worry about that...? What do you all have your heating set to overnight?

Just to add a bit of further research, I managed to unscrew the cable from the from I/O board and tried it in another computer. Plugged a USB 3.0 memory stick in and the results are: One port still dead and the other port started giving warnings of power surge! I'd say it's the cable then... Getting an aftermarket cable with the same screw hole configuration looks to be impossible, unless anyone knows different? Can't seem to find out if the I/O board can be purchased anywhere or the cable sent out separately? It must be in some other models too, but it seems a lot of other cases have the USB slots in vertical alignment, these push through the case across the top horizontally.

As it's an OEM board there seems to be limited options in the BIOS, but the only thing I could find (in Security) that was related was on yes. There's a UEFI diagnostic on the HP boards and the component test for USB failed, but this included me plugging something in to the port, so still doesn't tell me whether it's board or cable... EDIT: Rear USB 3.0 ports work fine.

Recently I was gifted an 'old' PC from a friend of my OH who is emigrating. On first glance it seemed OK, spec consists of, i7, 16GB ram, GTX. So, I got it up and running and managed to work out the following: The case is a Corsair Carbide Series SPEC-DELTA, but the internals appear to come from an HP ENVY 700-230ea. The friend was a big WoW player and obviously upgraded the case to the Corsair and the GFX to a GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER™ VENTUS XS OC. There were a few things I found that weren't wired into the motherboard correctly (power switch, and reset buttons & LED) and there's no fan controller, but other than putting in an SSD (and using the 2TB drive for storage), giving it a good clean as everything was covered in an inch of dust inside and changing the BIOS battery... it seems OK. The motherboard from the Envy appears to be a MS-7826 (Kaili) and as it's an OEM board I can't find a massive amount of information on it (just the basics). However, the front I/O in the Corsair case has 2 x USB 3.0 ports and these are plugged in (correctly) to the header on the motherboard, but do not recognise anything plugged into them. One port does absolutely nothing and the other just produced a USB not recognised/security descriptor error. I have messed about with drivers and plugging into each of the 2 USB headers on the motherboard, but nothing makes any difference. So, I think my options are motherboard headers not working properly or case front panel I/O cable issue (but I don't have a handy USB 3.0 motherboard cable around to test). To make matters worse I found reports of front USB ports not working for both the original HP Envy and the Corsair case... so it still could be either. The case is pretty much EOL as far as Corsair are concerned (and obviously I can't do an RMA or warranty exchange) I've had no luck looking for the whole front panel I/O part, so I've stripped out the cable itself from the front panel. I could buy a standard cable (or anything similar on Ebay/Amazon) and try to cut it to shape and stick it in, but I'd really rather not...

Update uninstalls previous version and then fails to install new version. Apparently the user tried to log-in to the VPN within windows but it failed to connect and then they tried to log-in pre-Windows auth and that is when it uninstalled and failed to update. This is the third time this has happened now and I have a lot of angry remote users that I can't help. One particular user has to do some work for a Governors meeting on Thursday and it's just making me look bad. The first time I just had to wait until the user could get the laptop to me and reinstalled it. The second time I raised a support case with LGfL and was told it's Cisco's fault, it happens sometimes and there's nothing you can do... Initially I thought it might have been due to the permission of the user as they are locked down, but I've just tested it on a pre-Windows auth so nobody was logged in and it uninstalled then failed to update. This has happened for my user and just now on my test machine, so I believe I will only get more calls about it as other users try to use it. I've raised another case but think I'm just going to get the same answer (as in the usual 'it's not our problem'), so if anyone here has a solution please let me know. Also, I've tried to get the web based VPN to work and can't seem to connect (I don't really understand it and there doesn't seem to be any information on what I need to do at my end), I've added the bookmark on the LGfL site and in testing ran the computer with no Windows or Sophos firewall) so if anyone uses that system any pointers would be helpful!
