Just wondered if anyone had any knowledge about this issue. Unfortunately this is second hand info, but I've been told we have the following error and it won't complete the census run. Type - F Sequence - 1630 Message - Pupil's ethnicity is missing or invalid The ESS help page says enter a valid ethnicity and enter an effective date from before the census run date, which my BM says he's done and followed the instructions to the letter, but it is still failing! Any ideas?

We are again having problems allowing teachers to view videos on White Rose Education (White Rose Maths/1 Minute Maths), due to the fact they host on Vimeo. Last year I questioned the viability of this with them, expressing my view that most schools would block Vimeo entirely. This was the response: Vimeo was chosen as it was found to be a more suitable platform for a larger number of schools to access. We have found that some schools can access the videos embedded in our website even where access to Vimeo has been blocked. I couldn't help but think this wasn't true, but as we're having problems again I thought I'd ask here... I really only want to see a rough overview of numbers (nothing nuanced) to get as much evidence as I can, because I really hate it when software or platform suppliers/vendors say 'it's only you with the problem'... We allow YouTube, but only for teachers and it is set to strict-restricted with Google Workspace video approval. I haven't added a choice for 'YES but only for teachers, or 'YES, but with restricted access' because I don't know of any similar controls available for Vimeo so we do not allow it at all (but can still allow embedded content only thanks to LGfL), because I don't want to take the chance a teacher will accidentally click on the wrong video... EDIT: Just looking for what the general consensus is, rather than believe White Rose Education's assertion, which is: "Vimeo was chosen as it was found to be a more suitable platform for a larger number of schools to access." EDIT 2: To put it more simply... if you block it but allow certain videos, please still put 'NO'. Or block it but have to put in thousands of whitelisted URLs/rules, still please put 'NO'. I'm only looking for a 'YES' if you allow free access, which upholds the assertion from White Rose that Vimeo is a suitable video hosting platform for schools...

Unfortunately they seem to focus more on what NOT to clear rather than being able to specify what to clear... but also, found this (I know it's chrome) does Edge have a similar GPO?: "Figured this out eventually. I was recently asked to provide access through Google Workspace so someone could log in to a website and read notes taken by an app called Otter.ai. Didn't pay too much attention to the detail of the app as we weren't using it, only viewing notes someone else shared, so not recommending/promoting it.

Well, helpfully the reason given is 'Attachments' [b][i]Matched Rules Rule description Quarantine name Attachments[/i][/b] The email is from the LEA and the attachment is a .switch file. I know, I only added the LEA domain into the allowlist as a test to see if it made a difference and it hasn't so it's already been taken out. That's why I asked if there is a way to make the settings say 'an email from the LEA with a .switch attachment should not be quarantined.

We are getting a lot of mail ending up in quarantine and unfortunately it's from the LEA. They appear to be Egress emails with the attachment .switch I thought I'd sorted it adding the LEA domain to an allowed senders list in Google Workspace > Settings for Gmail > Spam, phishing and malware, but it didn't make any difference (as I guess it isn't being blocked as spam, phishing or malware). I then looked at Compliance (content and attachment), but I can't really see any combination of settings that make it say 'email from LEA domain with a .switch attachment > send it to the inbox and not quarantine'... I also found this in 'Safety' "Protect against encrypted attachments from untrusted senders" but I don't know where to add a 'trusted sender'?

I've had a message from our SENCO about accessing some meeting notes from ELSA CPD Session - Therapeutic Letter Writing & Narrative Approaches. However these notes have been produced by AI, in fact an 'app' called Otter.AI. At the point when they use log-in with Google they get this message: Access blocked: authorisation error Access to this app or website log-in has been restricted I'm guessing I need to go into the Workspace Admin and go to Security > API controls > App access control to add the app and configure access. I'd be a bit happier if the user had requested the app and then I could tell I have the right one instead of randomly searching, but there doesn't appear to be any way for them to do this... Which is strange because I've had a couple of app access requests (obviously from students) for silly games and such. EDIT: I've just searched in 'Security > API controls > App access control' and only get results for Android and iOS anyway... Is this not a 'blocked' app and there's some other reason it's restricted in Google Workspace? EDIT 2: NVM I've now searched just for otter instead of otter.ai and found it... although there's 3 otter (web) options, which one do I choose?!

Anybody have any experience with this food ordering platform? Lately we've been getting reports of issues with slow interactivity when children are choosing their picture or food (or both), slow to load, sometimes it whitescreens (frozen a few times as a blank white page when the children were selecting on the screen) meaning the teacher has to close the tab and log in again. Feedback from the teachers include: - One child pressed his 'picture' and was kicked back to home screen 3 times in a row. - Another child was taken to the previous child's menu for around 10 seconds before it refreshed back to the correct one. - Every time a child selects their 'face' the screen goes white for a period of time (between 6 and 40 seconds - yes I counted!) - The majority of selections (whether a child, or food choice) took about an average of 15 seconds to load (and that was for each selection on every child). - The food choices (in red) are difficult to see on the background. Do these issues ring any bells with anyone? I have no idea where to start troubleshooting... it was OK for one teacher yesterday and then they have these issues the next day, it seems a bit random. Made more difficult by the fact that sometimes they say the interactive whiteboard is the problem so use their laptop and the next day they have the same issues whilst just using the laptop or even a desktop... Based on the fact that Relish say that everything is OK on their end (and it must be our network, nobody else has reported any problems etc.), I looked at our connection 400/400mbps and that is not nearing capacity, I looked at our filtering and decryption and excluded all recommended URLs. We ping their servers at +140ms which I didn't think was very good for an 'interactive' service platform, I've read that generally anything over 100 can produce a latency that is 'feels' slow. That doesn't change over the period of taking the register so it's not spiking during that time and our speed test remains a constant 400mbps. Tracert shows all hops within our network and our connection through LGfL sub 10ms and then we seem to hit the route to their hosting (Netherlands to the US apparently) where we start seeing +140ms pings on all hops, is that acceptable? There are no problems with any other cloud platform we use (TT Rockstars/Accelerated Reader/Google Classroom/Purple Mash)...

Not overly concerned with the runtime I guess, just as long as it's enough to do a graceful shutdown. I'm still not sure about that anyway, as I said I believe that SVR 1 would shutdown when UPS 1 gives up and SVR 2 will shut down when UPS 2 dies as it's set to send that communication through Powerchute, so in theory one UPS will never actually 'run' two servers. Thing is linking them both together like that, if UPS 1 actually dies (not low battery) and both servers then run from UPS 2, when UPS 2 gets to a low battery, SVR 1 will never get the communication to shut down...?

Think I'm confusing myself here with too many scenarios... I have 2 servers (each with 2 PSU) and two UPS. For SVR 1, I have: PSU 1 - plugged into the wall PSU 2 - plugged in to UPS 1 USB for Powerchute between SVR 1 and UPS 1 For SVR 2, I have: PSU 1 - plugged into the wall PSU 2 - plugged in to UPS 2 USB for Powerchute between SVR 2 and UPS 2 Somewhere in the back of my mind, I have the idea that actually the servers shouldn't even be plugged in to the wall and in fact the 2nd PSU should be plugged in to the opposite UPS. I've talked myself out of it before due to the fact that UPS 1 and SVR 2 can't communicate, so for example if UPS 2 dies, theoretically SVR 2 could still get power from UPS 1... but then when UPS 1 dies, it will never tell SVR 2 to shutdown. Thing is SVR 2 would have already been told to shutdown by UPS 2 when it failed... so there's no point in attaching SVR 2 to UPS 1 anyway...? The only point of doing it therefore is just not having them plugged in to the wall, thus benefitting from power conditioning, surge protection etc.

I haven't looked into the detail beyond the headlines (and I know the first hit on a Google search is Wikepedia and then the Guardian), but this has been widely reported, so I'm not certain whose figures to believe (I believe Musk less for some reson)... In April 2024, the NHTSA released the findings of a 3-year investigation of 956 vehicle collisions in which Tesla Autopilot was thought to have been in use that found that the system had contributed to at least 467 collisions including 13 that resulted in fatalities. I mean there's wiggle room, in that it 'was thought to have been in use'... @Ditto - my figures were literally the top of a Google search... Most of my knowledge is anecdotal, from the news and watching numerous YouTube clips and obviously most of those only make it to the headlines when it goes wrong (that's life). I haven't done exhaustive research, I wasn't trying to prove a point as such, it was accidents, RE: my comment saying about their 'safety and reliability' and not fatalities so wasn't a direct response to @mavhc who had escalated into talking about fatalities. But I don't think it can be extrapolated so easily, you can say A,B, or C manufacturer has driven X, Y, or Z amount of miles with whatever number of fatalities, but how many of those miles were in 'testing', were truly autonomous, with no 'safety driver', in busy or fast moving traffic, etc. Don't get me wrong, I'm not against the tech per se and I'm not anti-AI... would I trust a computer to write 10,000 lines of code with no mistakes more than I would a human...? Yes, I would. I'm certainly with @mavhc on a lot of the issues. Would I trust a computer not be distracted by pretty girl walking by, the kids in the back of the car, the fact that I'm late to work, the guy on the left trying to cut in at the roundabout even though he's zoomed up in the wrong lane (clearly marked for turning left, with an arrow), or being pre-occupied with what I've got to do at work today, or what I'm having for dinner tonight...? Yes, I would! Would I trust it to obey the speed limits and road markings, not overtake on the wrong side of the road? Possibly not so much, but ALL of the above (and many more) happen every second of everyday, with human drivers. So essentially computers are more likely to do follow their programming more consistently, obviously. The trouble is, ethically, I believe we are more 'programmed' ourselves to think people killing people is more acceptable than machines killing people... I mean not really acceptable, but is an accepted fact, 'accidents happen', the general public somehow just expect that a computer shouldn't make mistakes... of course any IT tech knows different. The more complicated the code, the more complicated the task, the more variables it has to deal with, the error rate is obviously going to rise. It's certainly a predicament, we are quite used to putting our lives in the hands of another human, we are less used to putting it solely in the hands of a machine. You could say we fly in planes, ride in cars and trains etc. All machines, for sure, but with a human element at the helm, so when the machines go wrong, the human can (sometimes) still save the day. We tend to think less about the times when it's actually the human who makes the error that kills us...

An awful lot of councils seemed to be posting large budget deficiencies or notices of bankruptcy, so I can't imagine any of them wanting to take on another money pit like a school. The part about making academies follow reformed national teacher pay scales and conditions, sounds like the inference is that they're not... Are they currently paying more or less? Sounds like you think they are paying less and will have to find extra money to pay the national teacher pay scale wages?

Wait, what?! You are still setting up the 2 x large drives as a RAID array though, yes? Although I can only see RAID 0 or 1 as an option, so not sure why the server was ordered with only 2 x large disks as this means the only RAID option is striped (0) - hope you have good backups... or mirrored (1) - and that's not great for performance or capacity. I didn't think you 'needed' to remove the single SSD from a RAID 0 array (although it's an option either way, so it doesn't matter), I thought that you were just going to create another array for the 2 other disks (IIRC you can have multiple separate RAID arrays on one card). My old workstation has a similar configuration to what I think you are trying to do, it's not a RAID card as such so not quite so complicated/involved but the theory is the same I think. Drive 0 (Kingston) is set up as non-RAID for the OS Drives 1 and 2 are set up as member disks of the RAID 0 array (called RAID lol)...

Probably because the SSD is attached to the RAID controller instead of a SATA port (did you specify that?), I don't have any experience with single SSD, but I'm sure someone else will be able to say for sure (our OS is on 2x spinning rust in RAID 1, so already on the PERC RAID controller). Interesting... If you have a single SSD for your OS, why is it in the RAID config at all... let alone RAID 0, which if IIRC is data striped across 2 disks. I've never used Dell's Lifecycle controller, but I thought any single disks, even joined to the RAID controller (PERC?) would need to be assigned non-RAID status in the set-up (just note changing now might bork your OS install though). Have you created a RAID set-up for your 2 other disks? Haven't done it for a long time, but wasn't it F6 during install for RAID drivers...?
