This position will be advertised again as the candidate chosen pulled out 5 weeks after interview. Watch this space. -
Hello all. I am an IT Technician without a Network manager, We use TMG but I was never taught how to use it. Unfortunately I have been running the school on my own for two months and I need to allow a website prezi.com There is an all allow policy for all users that is already setup in Forefront. I added the URL with wildcards (And without for testing) To the policy, clicked apply. Yet the website is still blocked with a deny message and code 12202. Any ideas?

Ding ding, never knew these existed. All working fine now! Cheers. R

Hey guys. I am a technician working on my own as the NM has left us. I have built a new laptop with XP, It is in the correct OU and should be grabbing the correct GP's. However it never seems to be able to grab the correct drive mappings on login regardless of which login I use, I can add them manually on a local admin and Domain admin, but they do not stay put when the main user logs in. I have tried resetting the user profile and forcing GPupdate. I have restarted our main file server/GPO area as I had problems with it anyway. I seem to have the same issues with some new Windows 7 PC's that I have deployed to staff but I can manually add the drives and it stays put. It appears that any PC's added to the domain with a new name, does not get the correct drive mappings. Any ideas?

Buy a true LCD TV rather then a Plasma TV and screen burn wont really be an issue.

Bump! I am now leaving in the next 4-5 weeks. -
Hey guys and gals. For personal reasons it looks like I may have to move back to Bristol from London very soon. I would like to have a job ready for me when I arrive! I am a motivated IT Technician with 2 1/2 years experience in schools with Windows and Mac environments. Degree educated and with Microsoft certification. I have run a 600+ user network by myself for 2 months during an emergency whilst commissioning a whole new building and have managed IT apprentices. Having a look around the usual sites I have been unable to find vacancies. If anyone has heard of any I would much appreciate it!

So did a bit more digging into the situation. Our camera uses only Canon MXF files. This greatly reduces our choices to either Edius 6.5 or CS6 Premiere. Apparently there has been some problems with premiere and Canon MXF files, anyone care to chime in on their experiences? The Edius trial is working well.

Good good, I should have also mentioned, only 5 licenses are required and the laptops will be standalone, no network connections.

My school has bought a very nice professional Canon camera for our new media students. We also ordered Avid Studio at £150~ for 5 licenses. However the company who produced it was bought out and consequentally stopped offering that software. We just need something fairly featured for as cheap as we can get it! What have you guys used which could fit the bill? I was looking at Sony movie studio platinum, but it has been a long time since I last used video editing software. We are running Windows 7. Cheers in advance! R

Sorted! Organization -> Hub Transport -> Send Connectors - Hp blade -> Global Settings reapplied default limits.

Hello guys. So, my school has Exchange 2010 and Forefront. Pardon my lack of knowledge, unfortunately it is just me a lowly IT Tech in a school since the departure of the NM struggling to get by! I have very little experience with exchange beyond setting up new mail accounts and zero experience with Forefront. A scenario. A very important member of staff asks for a larger Email send limit, I login to exchange and figure that increasing the individual's send limit in mailbox flow should do it. However now they can no longer send any attachments. So I return the limits back to default (IE global). The user can still not send attachments. Now I know that we use Microsoft Forefront but not sure if we used it to set mailbox limits. If we did use Forefront to set mailbox limits, would changing anything directly in the Exchange server break the users send limit? In which case I would have to use Forefront to reapply the global settings? I have never used forefront before, I have tried connecting to the mail server with Forefront server, but it gives me a "Server is not operational" error. Would be great to be given some help on this Cheers! Rob. PS: Running powershell command Get-Mailbox | Format-List *Quota on any user shows everything as unlimited apart from the entry "Rules Quota: 64KB" including the problem user.

Almost all printers here are HP. Using some ancient and some new. 2015n's 4050n's. Currently trying to phase some out with HP M401dns. Personally I dont like HP's, we go with them for historical reasons. I prefer Brother's myself. Most hated printer is Samsung ML2850. They have no right being in an education or business setting. Very cheaply made, constant problems.

Hiya guys. At the moment I am very busy with the handover so please keep that in mind. I am just a messenger giving you the heads up on the job and whilst I dont mind answering some questions, I am being asked questions that I really cant answer and/or shouldnt answer. If the question is not specifically IT related please use the official channels to contact the school. Cheers. R. -
