I know your pain there, last area I lived in with Virginmedia had a badly oversubscribed UBR, (all new connections kept being jammed onto a single channel, with a few spare and empty channels having the service of their lives ill wager) you couldnt do anything when it came to peak time, WoW would let you in then you would lag out and you got to listen to your mates having fun as you telegraphed around Orgrimmar trying to just keep in the game with it and ringing up trying to speak to someone who understood online gaming was hit and miss, it took anywhere from 2/3 days to 6/8 weeks to get a resegmentation of the UBR so everything would revert to normal. It is spot on that in this day and age these things shouldn't happen, unfortunately they do and both companies are hit and miss I have found from being with both of them now, BT - they have twice wired me from a max length exchange to my home when a nearer one existed because it was "Easier" for them, so you automatically get poor broadband service (supposed to be 12 meg, I was getting 4.5mbps), something that my parents have a nightmare because of to this day though they have gone fibre now which has helped them a little, they have leapt from 1.5mb now to 15mb connection.

First port of call would be to run memtest there on the machine, that will let you know either way if its graphics or RAM - does the graphics have a working fan/heatsink too/ is it free of fluff ? i had issues with that before with my old card as a fan failed just after a year on my previous card.

I am in a similar position with a house move on the cards, I won't have room to have a man cave really so I am thinking of getting a decent high end laptop or even the high end 15" macbook pro (that shows I am mellowing to even be considering one these days) I only really play wow and even that's on a decline at the moment, as there isn't a mass of stuff to do in game if your a casual from my perspective and alts arent exciting me.

I had a similar problem about 3 years back and I opted for a motherboard bundle at the time - check overclockers and check ebuyer if they have bundles/barebones systems on there. WoW isnt super demanding on the graphics, though it may be worth checking on your addons if your getting freezing like that and have updated them recently, I had a similar issue with Parrots Scrolling Combat Text the other day, it was dropping me to 0 fps when added to flame Highmaul textures that are everywhere in that raid and the majority of the time, I play fine on a Nvidia GTS 450 here

Aye, I would have looked for a repairer myself for my ipad mini, but mine was a work iPad so I was obligated to do it properly I felt. I wouldnt attempt an ipad because of the glueing involved, though I am now on par with the average repairer though when it comes to iPhone 5s having fitted my wifes 4th screen I don't think I want the hassle of this person sorting out an ebay repair of their screen (they are not especially tech-literate and it would drag me into it a bit more than I want I think)

Hello, I have a member of staff who has asked me to look at their ipad as its playing up, its developed a problem with the screen - it looks as though the panel is on its way out, touch responses are fine on it, but the screen has some flickering on it and blue colour distortion that's appeared when they have switched it on, it hasn't been dropped, screen and everything are pristine and has a decent quality case on it as well (I know the member of staff is one for taking care of their devices). What I wanted to know, is what is the case with apple repairing/replacing the device under consumer law in the UK and would the staff member be charged for it ? It seems to be offering it on the website when I am putting in the details of the serial number. Its an ipad 3 I think looking at it, last ones before lightning connector came in. Has anyone got experience of this form of repair and would it be free for the person ? (I know they just swap them out if their screens are damaged or something similar from my own ipad being dropped by my son, which cost me £165 when that happened) Thanks, Richard

Thats what I thought after looking at ebay/amazon, I can't rely on them for it to be a legitimate decent product, you can see a lot of the knock-off covers being touted as the legitimate product, I bought one a long while back for my wife's ipad mini and it didnt last more than a month before it started falling to bits. I am after a white cover I should have added, the wife would prefer it to match her phone ¬_¬ I can't make BETT this year unfortunately, but is it at all possible that someone attending could simply ask them if they get a chance do they have a UK distributor and get some details or a business card for me ?

Hello Edugeek, Does anyone know a UK stockist for these cases ? its for a personal purchase here not an employment related sale. Short story is Wife is now on her 4th screen for her iPhone 5s (combination of letting the boy play with phone initially, not being careful and also not keeping it out of his reach), so after getting it replaced this time I would like to invest in a case to keep it safe for its remaining 17 months (its only 7 months old the poor thing and hasnt stood a chance with the 2x Wreck it Ralph's I appear to live with) I have looked on Amazon and finding that the ranges just aren't comparable to the US website for the Griffin cases, otterbox seem ok, but reviews say their a bit horrible to fit and I know of Gumdrop from their excellent iPad cases which we use where I work. not bad for when your servers dont come with proprietary mounting kits, like our HPs did, they would be nice and easy on our switches your right enough.

Congratulations, its worth it definitely if you can set it up, as it offers a good host of software, Mac and Windows stuff too with Office and VMWare stuff. Only thing, make sure to tell staff to print off their licence keys and installation files, after an initial period it costs a bit more (Think its around £12 possibly more for a years access to their keys and download files for the installers)

Few broken links on the website there :/ Seems a decent product in terms of look and helpdesk/asset management. SSO would be a clincher there, cost isnt all that bad. Seems that its a bit of a disarrayed market, either they have a killer look, but lack functionality or have features through the roof but an ugly or unusable UI from when I looked at these recently.

Hello Edugeekers, I am in a bit of difficulty here with something that I think shouldn't be all that hard to sort out, though reading suggests its a nightmare. I need to create an exam user which has a blank green desktop and start menu folder for an upcoming exam with our site. Our site is Windows 7 64 bit and a 2008R2 DC I have created a GPO and a security group for this user already and have a test user in place. In the GPO I have set the folder redirections in place to our \\f.q.d.n\Menus\CompSciStartMenu and \\f.q.d.n\Menus\CompSciDesktop Folders and a couple of other minor settings, like remove recycle bin from desktop, preventing the user shutting down the machine and changing the desktop colour to a green background , it should be up and running as far as I can see, but the GPOs bits regarding folder redirection are not applying (I have placed a test.txt file in the desktop folder to check it is applying). I have set the permissions on the folders to add in both the security group and everyone to have read/list and execute access to the folders. The GPO is running as far as I can see as the other bits of the GPO, such as removing recycle bin/ preventing shutdown and the changing of the background to a green colour is working without problem when the test user logs on, they have no mandatory profile setup and its basically a user with an internet access usergroup, domain users group and the exam security group that I have created. I have set Loopback Policy Processing to Merge in case that's an issue with the way our domain is setup (its a flat domain run overall by our LEA and has many other sites in it, we exist as an OU in its structure) and I have also set it to enforce the GPO on our part of the domain I have already searched on here for other settings and see many mentions of changing some of the parts of the Start Menu and Taskbar settings within the GPOs, I have tried enabling and disabling the many things raised in the redirection threads, but it does not seem to be kicking in at all. Any help is appreciated. Rich

use a removal company (our landlord stumped up for one on a previous housemove because of an issue with rising damp) we were moved within about 45 minutes (area was about 10 minutes away from our house), we just boxed everything up our end and marked it up, they happily plonked it down where needed the other end. Saved sooooo much hassle and the wife and I said we would use one again to move because of this last time (I moved us twice previously to that with minimal help - my dad was the only help I had and it was a complete pain).

I have a nice kensington gel wrist rest mouse mat in work and a combination of a Razer Goliathus/Roccat Gaming mouse (I managed to snag both while they were priced stupid cheap in PC World) Best mouse mat I ever had though was an IceMat that my friend got a hefty discount on while working in Maplin, we both had one each for a £10 and I felt sad when it broke a couple of years back.

PC Gamer magazine is worth a look, it carries adverts from a couple of companies selling a range of gaming desktops/laptops and Custom PC is also worth a look. I am looking forward here and if we move home soon, I won't have much room for a Man Cave / gaming rig like I have in our bedroom at the moment, so I think I will be looking for one of these for my gaming needs as well, started a free trial on iOS to get some magazines the other day. Edit: a quick trawl of the magazine on my lunch, these are the advertisers in it for gaming machines below if your after a pre-built/laptop, I can't vouch for having purchased anything from them though. I would recommend a Samsung, I have an 840 EVO here in my machine and it absolutely rocks for speed, its such a nice thing to get to desktop at 10 seconds or thereabouts.
