Hello All, I am looking at a new case in the next couple of months, rather than go Apple and spend lots of cash I can't justify to myself, I am likely now to stick with my current windows based setup going forward, my Thermaltake Tsunami Dream isnt cutting it anymore, LEDs have broken and some of the case screws have lost their threads, added to which the top of it with its usb2 panel has never really worked properly. Case wise - I am looking at a Zalman Z9/Z11 as I fancy mounting my PSU at the bottom now to take the heat of the PSU fan outside and away from the motherboard. Does anyone have one ? care to recommend an alternative? I had my CPU fan die a while back and replaced it with one which wasnt 100% compatible, its a XeroCool AM2 CPU fan and has 3 pins instead of the four that it wants on the motherboard and it runs a fair bit hotter than my previous CPU fan,(I run an AMD Phenom II X6 1050T - Socket AM3) - I think its an AM3+ processor from what I recall and want a decent cpu fan/heatsink recommendation with the case above, Thanks, Rich

It took a bit of jiggery pokery from our LEA team with the firewall and traffic, 80 and 443 were open but the traffic wasn't coming back to our server, once that was sorted it connected without problem.

thanks all, I have asked a few of our suppliers also as well as some mentioned, I havent the time to swap out a screen myself, so far I have only changed 4 iphone screens for my wife (don't ask, she keeps letting the boy grab it and throw it) I know an ipad screen is a lot more involved.

Hello Edugeekers, We have a dead iPad 4 on our site, looks as though battery is dead on the device - charged it for three nights running with seperate chargers and nothing, wont respond in itunes at all either and want to know if anyone here knows of or uses a reliable/quality repair service for these devices ? I looked at Apple and the OOW repair service quoted £256.44 for the service, when we can buy new for around £300 so its not really competitive. Thanks, Rich

Sleep/Hibernate can be very problematic with power and updates on older hardware I found on our site, their disabled and we use spiceworks to startup and shutdown our site (though we will be moving to scripts soon as spiceworks intel power manager plugin seems to be failing at starting the site up and shutting it down at the moment).

LOL I have a self enforced limit of £50 on eBay, I just don't trust buying anything of expensive value from there, its the wild west of shopping same for Amazon Marketplace and ye olde play.com (though thats probably circling the plughole these days)

I am going down the similar road, find myself wanting a MBP Ret after using our iMac in work with iPad deployment, nicer look and feel than windows (accepted arguments being costs and so on)

Using Bing on our site at the moment, its not a bad search engine, still prefer overall duckduckgo though

I had a problem recently with a reinstall and WSUS just would not output clients, I found out after much google-fu that it was down to WSUS not removing the IIS site that it creates automatically, so you may want to remove everything and make sure the site gets removed from IIS on the box to stop that happening, if what you have going on is possibly because its having problems with website permissions as I had.

LOL fair play I didnt know that and thankfully only registered a single domain with them as they were cheap, its redirecting to the website fine too atm. 123-reg used to be cheap, but since webfusion took them over I noticed a bit of price creep myself.

I used to use 123-reg for a long time, but have found fasthosts to be cheaper recently when I took out a domain for a family member. hosting I have been with dream-hosting/hostpresto for my blog for about 4 years now. - I prefer a flat rate for a hosting package rather than a monthly cost.

iPhone 4s on EE, but been out of contract for about 1.5 years now, thinking of switching it to Three on a 1 month rolling tariff, probably buy a 6+ in a few months time from apple direct.

another thing to watch when your on pre-payment meters is if your energy supplier puts a standing charge onto you, we jumped to Swalec on our pre-payment meter, because I think Eon or EDF were charging about £7/8 a week for nothing more than having the service, which equated to about £28 a month with that company, we realised quick enough that it was eating chunks of the money we were putting into it and jumped ship fast there.

do you have something like old plumbing with an immersion heater in a boiler ? that can and does cost lots to use to heat water, failing that I would check what appliances you have left turned on if no ones in, see if any particular appliance makes a difference to it. Does your PC have a large wattage power supply ? that can use the juice as my 550w one does here and its noticeable in our consumption when I am home and off work in holidays. (On a personal level, having experienced pre-payment meter's and direct debits here, it was a rip-off for my wife and our usage when we were on DD, they expected us to pay massive amounts more than we knew our average use to be in winter, when our bills were pretty solid and had been for years),when we were persuaded on one property to go on a DD system instead of a pre-pay meter here, we both would be loathed to ever go onto DDs again here.

I get both sides of the education of kids to be safe online/ why it has to have filtering for e-safety argument with this and I tend to sit on the fence a bit with this and have an overview of it, I do think it is a little bit pointless when they can access what they like on their personal devices on 3/4g these days, but I understand the need for safeguarding/child protection online is mostly down to legal requirements and matters. Though I could be wrong as I am no expert on any of these matters I will say here. My understanding of this whole issue though was that things tend to largely revolve around the dreaded L word of liability these days from what I have seen, in that "If its done on a school computer, over the schools internet" it brings the school into matters of disrepute, whereas if little Jonny is doing something on a personal device, then that's their own property essentially which the school has no real control over (confiscation perhaps in some places). Liability does get overlooked a fair bit I think in these matters. (Not saying that any filtering solution is perfect either and cannot be bypassed or gotten around if the person is determined enough!)

My first foray onto the internet when I was much younger (think it was about 1995/6) it was with a 14.4kbps modem on my first PC with Compuserve, usually it was less than about an hour a time as I would be hogging the parents telephone line to connect up, my nearest point of presence for the web, involved a phone call to a Cardiff number at the time (I live in Swansea), one of the first things I ever did online, was download the doom shareware, I think I had to leave the line on for a ridiculous time to get that down on the connection I had.

(VM Area), but looking back I did get hammered for being an early adopter of broadband. I was originally an NTL customer for broadband (cant remember exact year, but it was around 1998/2000), there was no choice in provider for me as BT hadn't even sorted out our cities main exchange then which I was connected too for telephone, NTL were way ahead of the game, so the only option was to go NTL for the broadband and back then they would only let you have the broadband if you had the cable TV and telephone, so I ended up with a subscription for £96 a month then for it all, I think it was for 512kb initially and I think I wangled getting rid of the TV at some point and upped to their maxiumum 1mb when it first came out. Nowadays its a bit over £30 for 152mb I am paying according to the update I had the other day for the free "Upgrade from 120 to 152mb" I had a few friends at the time in a worse case for costs, as they lived in a small village in Devon which was last on the list for enabling broadband and for their online gaming they had no choice but to have 2x 64kb ISDN lines in their home to have decent ping speeds playing CS/DoD/TF, I think they were paying a small fortune for that with their ISP subscription on top for unmetered/free call connectivity to the web. - - - Updated - - - lol, I would never pay that nowadays and I am lucky enough to live in a town where even the suburb I am moving too at the end of next week can give me 152mb ! That made me laugh there, I remember it well as though the mention of ping was a swearword at times with the Tech support call handlers and they didnt have the scripts to deal with it, always had to be passed to second/third line support, when I first started with them, they didnt have any concept of wanting the connection to have a decent ping not caring that it was 1meg speed (£90 a month that was costing back then, today half that for 152mb lol)
