Looking at, for budget reasons, replacing ageing teacher computers with USFF units and using existing Monitors, keyboards an mice @VeryPC do one which I am getting a unit sent out to try which can have surprisingly good specs (upto i7 and 16gb ram, SSD etc) but just wondered if anyone has experience of using these any other suggestions, I have seen Dell, Lenovo and Viglen have them. Any one used as a teacher classroom PC? Cheers

+ School Asset Manager , just moved to it from asset i . QR code stickers and a mobile app so you don't need a 3rd party zapper. The reporting are excellent.

We are looking at AIOs had quite a few out on Demo. Very PC Glide, Stone All In One, Lenovo and another VeryPC AIO which is the same chassis as the stone. Expecting a ZooStorm one mid march too. In my testing all have had i3 4gb and some had ssd. Had loads of problems with the Stone AIO (faulty, network card, firmware flashing, new motherboard etc, good support very prompt but not ideal experience.) So far the veryPC mitac chassis is my fav and with a 120gb ssd it is actually very impressive speed wise, off to logged on in 44s. Things to note would be if considering these as teacher computers is the lack of VGA or dvi so an adapter is needed for HDMI unless you have hdmi runs to your projectors which we don't. I've bought a couple of cheap adaptors on Amazon £6 which work OK through a powered vga splitter but not without. The Stone AIO has dvi out but we had so much trouble with that unit on demo we won't be considering it. Very, Stone and Zoostorm offering 5year warranty too which is pretty awesome.

I think I am going to revisit this in the summer but for now on the screens we have which are LG "Super"Sign which is truly awful and even powerpoint support is limited. For now I have installed ubuntu on the builtin PC, set it to boot straight into a kiosk mode (full screen) in chrome and load a Google Slides presentation that can be edited anywhere at anytime and I have set it to refresh the presentation every 30 mins. It doesnt provide weather updates or twitter feeds but happy with it for now. Given a bit more time you could create much better professional looking layouts than a lot of the naff Digital Signage solutions I have seen in this search

Going to resurrect this thread. Looking at a solution and interested in xibo but has anyone got any examples of their digital signage with xibo? Had played with the idea of using chromescasts for this and casting tab from chrome or possible from a tablet if they improve the support.

Our iOS devices are expanding at a pace now. We are trying to decide on a way forward when it comes to buying apps. We use the VPP to purchase them which is no problem, it is more the policy of who pays for what. Does anyone just buy in bulk for the entire fleet of devices so that all have the apps and all are the same? We currently have Science, Maths and Humanities using the devices, each requiring different apps to meet their requirements. It is the cross curricular apps such as Numbers, Pages etc which are causing contention as the argument is they should be paid out of a central "apps" budget Just wondered how other school were going about it?

Update: You can, using the configurator, "Prepare" devices , install profiles and free apps and it wont disable the DCIM folder which is great. However should you want to install paid apps then your out of luck. in version 1.2.1 they added this • Paid apps from the App Store can now be installed in the Prepare pane only when a device is being supervised This basically means , for what I am trying to setup, you can either have access to the DCIM folder but no paid apps or you can roll out paid apps but you cannot have access to the DCIM folder. "User is King" my bottom! Cut off at every turn!!!!

We have got numerous iPod/iPad sets and are in the process of rolling them out using the Apple Configurator tool which I must admit is a nice piece of software. It locks down as much as Apple will allow and has enabled me to set them up almost to the way I want them...until today I discovered that devices that have been "supervised" by the tool will now longer allow you access to the pictures and videos within the DCIM folder. "This is something that is not supported at this time" https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3800368?start=0&tstart=0 Anyone had this ? or found a workaround, the only ones I can think of are email and cloud storage which are not ideal but maybe the only way.

We have had a similar issue at our school, we have RM cc4 but lots of standalone laptops for staff and students. We couldnt afford the upgrade licenses or the RM connector licenses and at the time I started to make this it didnt support windows 7, so I have over time created a little installer which is a basic batch script at a command prompt which uses the users credentials to map the desired network drives and copy shortcuts to the desktop, run again it will disconnect the drives and delete the shortcuts. I do not profess to be an expert in scripting and the final result of this installer is the end of a lot of trial and error. Once installed you edit the connect.bat file to meet your requirements. It is configured to disconnect mapped drives if they already exist (ie another user comes to use workstation) and provide a new logon window. I like to use this alongside Comodo Time Machine to create a fresh setup at every logon. Update, was connecting at 100mbps not on GB and seen the multicast transfer rate increase 10fold to an amazing 40mib-min which would take about 8 hours to image. ...scratches head

I have just got Multicast up and running and happily had 4-5 machines multicasting at a rate of 400-500mb/min but now with no change in equipment when imaging more than one computer via multicast the speed drops to 6.5mb/min. I have no idea why it is doing this. I am going to check the connection speed of my FOG lan connection as it should be a GB card.
