This is an interesting one. Until somebody mentioned it, I hadn't noticed that the period of daylight savings is much longer after the winter solstice than before. If 'Symmetric Daylight Savings' was adopted we would now be into summer time and have lighter evenings. It's already light 'early enough' so this would make the winter seem much shorter. I can only give you some partial advice, but something's better than nothing so here goes. I use it under Linux, and like it a lot. It works surprisingly well under Windows; it's quick and easy to get a something musical in a very short time. LMMS is aware of drives and network places, so I;m guessing that you can map user areas over the network. It also has a built-in browserey type of thing to drag and drop samples, loops and clips to your tracks. I'm also guessing that this is network aware so you could have a central repository of loops and clips. One thing to watch for - it installs Babylon, which is some kind of browser plug-in. It seems like an ad-supported plugin, so you might want to strip this out of any packages you make. A bit vague I know, but it's free and I think it's very good. I use it under Linux to sketch out song structures. For getting a song structure up and running quickly, it's unbeatable, even if you only use it as a sketchbook. It has a built-in sample player, sound-font player and synth plugin so it's pretty well spec'd. Under Linux, it's also Jack aware so I can sync it to an audio recorder like Ardour for live audio. I can then export the individual LMMS tracks (dry) to waves or Oggs then import into Ardour for mixing. If you don't need any live recording (vocals, guitar, whatever) you can do everything in LMMS.

I don't use DBAttach, so no help there, sorry. However, it sounds like the SQL script to create the users isn't running, or crashing midway hence a few users work. Any error messages? Is it the X11 driver stopping it? Or is it a non-GUI machine? I'd use a P2V rather than a disk image; there's probably some hardware configuration stopping it from working. Possibly. Ain't nothing free in this world. I do know, though, that triggers will work; we wrote a financial app using triggers to do something similar.

It's perfectly possible to do this; one approach would be to set up triggers on key tables (tables that you find particularly interesting) and create one trigger for an insert, one for update and another for delete. The triggers could write the SQLuser, date and time (and I think IP address, but I haven't checked) to a simple shadow table, something like User/Table_accessed/Date/Time/IP/Action (Insert/Update/Delete) And because we're using triggers from the SQL server, rather than the stored procedures or a logging function from within the SIMS app, it would record activity even if someone hacked it outside of the SIMS application, recording who did something, an indication of what they did and when they did it. But this is certainly NOT something to try during a free 5 minutes.

Will it still be safe to drive? Someone bashed in the side of my old car a couple of years ago. They said it would be written off, but it was such a good reliable car I told them I'd rather keep it than get the paltry amount for write-off value. They paid me some money in lieu of repairs, I was happy with this deal, and drove it for a quite a while which a caved in side, only spent £20 on a new door mirror. I sold the car (with 170,000 miles on the clock) for £200 ish later, I still see it around now and again, chugging along on what must be near 200,000 miles by now. If it doesn't bother you too much, you can get money in lieu of repairs, and take your time looking for a new car, then sell yours for whatever you can get. Sometimes it's worth more as scrap. Don't forget to get a refund on the tax disc.

Good point. Buy a car made in a country that has worse weather than you. Back in the '70s a neighbour bought a Lancia and it was possible to watch it decompose before your eyes.

Mazda 2. Reliable and well made. You can get them 4 door, too. I've been an old school diesel driver for many years, but I'd be wary of modern diesels with the particulate filter regeneration and all that jazz. Cars are far too compilcated these days.

Bah! In November & December, we had THREE days when it didn't rain. I'm not making it up, I kept a little chart on the fridge as I had building work going on. 11th of November, 27 December and one other day which I forget. I'm flabbergasted by the drought conditions in some part of the country, it has rained here for 3 out of every 4 days this month. Looking out of the window, visibility is about 0.5 km. At least it's drizzle and not heavy rain. I'm glad I don't smoke; I doubt I could keep a cigarette alight here.
