No problems whatsoever with Foxit Reader Enterprise 9.5 We have tried the version of Adobe Reader on our original build which was 19.010.xxxxx and that is fine, prints without flattening. It is something to do with 19.012.xxxxx updates that have caused this behaviour.

Good, we know what we have and where it is, the IP, MAC address, port and switch it is connected to. I have set aside 5 days to do this work over the summer break which should be more than enough. I dont mind physically putting the phones out - that way i know they have the right length cable and they boot up and work etc. Currently have the 3CX system spun up as a VM and have 3 cheap and cheerful Fanvil phones connected to it. We have it setup on some test SIP trunks from a perspective supplier and the 3CX Android and IOS app configured. So far I am impressed with the setup and ease of use.

Always use a barcode scanner - saves any mistypes. Certainly helps with the deployment of things like this.

We too are experiencing this. Latest version of DC 2019.012.20034 Windows 10 LTSC 1809 Two virtual print queues: Mono + Colour - with PCL6 drivers. A simple 8 page PDF about exam requirements can take 15 minutes to flatten on an i7 !

For those of you with 3CX which version did you licence? Standard / Pro / Enterprise. The sweet spot seems to be Pro. Currently pricing up the 3CX solution including Yealink phones - these seem to be the most popular phone on this platform and the one the majority of suppliers are recommending. Also would a days install cover all we need to know to get to grips with it? It would seem most organisations are wanting to quote several days "professional services" to install - which seems overkill and expensive!

We are considering replacing an old Cisco VoIP solution due to ongoing costs. We have narrowed down the choices, one of which is 3CX. For those of you running a 3CX system would you be willing to share your honest feedback? Do you experience any issues? Do you have any handset lockups that require reboots or anything similar? In your experience, do any particular brand of handsets work better than any other? What advice would you pass on to someone installing 3CX for the first time? Having had a bullet proof Cisco solution we are mindful of putting in something we have no experience in. But the ongoing costs of maintaining the Cisco solution and potential upgrade costs are very high, too high to justify staying with it. We inherited the solution from the BSF days. I am also aware we could load the SIP firmware onto the Cisco handsets we have to potentially make them work with a 3CX system, saving us some handset cost.

We purchased the update to AB v9, it was a disaster. We upgraded to V9 at the same time we moved to W10. Within 2 weeks bought NetSupport DNA and NetSupport School. Had AB Tutor credit me for the full amount as it wasn’t fit for purpose. It couldn’t handle certain types of dual monitor setups. Wouldn’t connect to clients. All setup as per their instructions. We never had any issues with V7 on Win7.

That's what you'd think, but nope!

All networks are different, I have got it working for EE as they publicise their ports etc. However, 3 and BT Mobile (only 2 I have been asked for) I cannot find any details online about what ports etc. are required - and therefore cannot get them to work.

I think the minimum building regulationss are now a heating zone per floor, however, I would look to extend that and have zones for each individual bedroom, kitchen, living room etc. Throughout the day you may require different temperatures in different rooms. Controllable via a thermostat in the room but also an app

Your right! By the time it gets to reality something like this https://www.samsung.com/uk/tvs/qledtv-q900r/QE85Q900RATXXU/ wll be down to the 3/4k mark

Erm... no. https://news.energysage.com/tesla-solar-roof-price-vs-solar-panels/ Not convinced you would ever see your money back...

They do look good! I'm just conscious of having any hole in any wall or ceiling specifically designed for a ipad/speaker, which in 10/15 years time, when it breaks and you have to replace it your then hunting for something of a specific size. All these smart home projects i look at online have ipad docks in the wall - great in 5 years time when the connector is out of date and the ipad is a physically different size.

I have a room dedicated to the kids play room / my cinema room! There should be enough storage to hide all their toys etc. then have a nice adult space for serious film watching. Will also double as the kids hide out / gaming room when they get older no doubt. Easy to get carried away with bespoke cinema design, before you know it you could spend a fortune! Must have though has to be: 7.1 surround projection smart lighting and blinds popcorn machine

Definitely! doors wide enough to get furniture through without having to dismantle!

Not building it ourselves, we will hire a primary main contractor and have them manage the build process. No we won't be living onsite during the process. The plan at this early stage is to have under floor heating in majority of large rooms, coupled with radiators in bathrooms etc. Heated from traditional gas central heating, still to be convinced of return on investment of ground source heating. Plot size is plenty big enough to explore this further though. No way! I hate the look of solar panels (personal preference). All aspects of the roof will be on show so there will be no hiding them. Yes this is all accounted for in the initial plans. There is cab space allocated for this purpose.

Will do! However, having just won an appeal against the councils original decision, we are still some time away from starting yet. I estimate anywhere from 1.5 to 2 years away from breaking ground.

After finally being granted planning permission for a new build house, it has got me thinking about the tech to go inside. If you had the opportunity to deck out your house, what would you be looking at? Would you cable it up with Ethernet or rely solely on WiFi? Would you implement Control4? How about smart lighting and Google/Alexa? Local CCTV to a NAS like Synology or cloud based recording? Would you even bother with a tv Ariel or simply stream everything? Possibilities are endless I guess, however it needs to be child friendly and easy to use for the grandparents

Pair of XG 550 appliances here, moved from Smoothwall. No issues at all, once you get over the differences between the products we haven't found anything it cannot do. Application control is great and works well - even without requiring SSL certificates on BYOD devices. Web filtering is on par with Smoothwall I would say from our experience. Firewall is on another level from Smoothwall. V17.5 brings some nice functionality too like Chromebook integration/support. All in all I am happy with XG - it's proving itself to be rather good. It was my understanding Sophos is winding up the SG/UTM development and concentrating their efforts on XG?

Deploy & Inventory here - wouldn't be without it now. Allows us to keep those annoying runtimes up-to-date without having to think twice. We have used it for the following: Bios updates and configs (dell), software deployment, installing fonts, ad-hoc plugins, driver changes etc.

HCSS here, moved from FMS. Our Finance team evaluated pretty much everything and plumped for HCSS https://www.theaccessgroup.com/education/software/ Like someone else has previously stated - entirely cloud, which is nice! Cheap too compared to the rest.

Filtering alternatives to Smoothwall
Paid_Peanuts replied to robbie-w's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Moved from SW to Sophos XG and don’t miss SW at all. Not that hard to replicate, simply export all your custom URL groups from SW and import into Sophos - that’s most of your filtering sorted. The rest are standard firewall rules which wouldn’t hurt to go through them all again to make sure they are still fit for purpose. -
Filtering alternatives to Smoothwall
Paid_Peanuts replied to robbie-w's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Moved from SW to Sophos XG a year and half ago. XG filter just as good we find, however, the firewall capability and application control is hands down 1000% better on the XG. Inline also - so no more proxy settings! -

Paid_Peanuts replied to Paid_Peanuts's topic in How do you do....it?
You don’t have to tell me the reasons why... For all those reasons you’ve stated I have suggested it isn’t implemented. However, that being said I’d still rather familiarise myself with the process, in case it is forced upon me.
