That's being pretty nit picky really as you're talking about two different products. HyperV Server isn't the same as Windows Server with hyperV enabled. One brings VM licenses with it and one doesn't. So obviously there's difference in pricing to the "original element" but you still have to pay for the license after it as you're just missing them in the first place (ignoring the 99.9% solution of using no windows machines) Steve

Never had problems with HyperV, the issues mentioned above all sound like the driver bug that was made by Broadcom but end of day driver issues happen Wouldn't waste money on VMware unless there's something specific you need it for when you can get HyperV "free" (EES wise etc ) Steve

Doesn't it still need the borland pdoxusers thingy to have full control etc? And without doing manual config in the borland admin page the only way was to do local admin before wasn't it? Or has it finally fixed that? Referencing this issue: Steve

Afternoon All, Looking to finish migrating over to Win10 over Summer for our last admin users etc, specifically finance team and wondered if anyone found any gotchas or tips for FMS. I'm assuming it still needs local admin to work "properly" with UAC on. Apart from that has anyone found any issues with borland etc etc or is it fairly smooth? Thanks, Steve

We use SCCM but in terms of windows updates we deny servers to auto install anything. Then push out what we want over half-terms etc. Seems safer than risking a random update nuking servers Steve

The problem with scripting it is you're then going to need to force refresh desktops or kill/relaunch explorer etc which for a server isn't always a great idea Do you specifically want the background info in that regards? I generally find it's easier to just go command lines, so run a hostname before a shutdown etc. No way to get that mixed up then Not as fancy, but deffo works! Steve

My point I was trying to make is you're talking about two different bits there, how an incident is handled e.g. a bullying scenario and how teachers dealt with it isn't personal information (therefore not requestable via a SAR), it can't identify the person, it's not linked to their behaviour record blahblah. Because it depends on the situation with the type of school and parents etc, if for example it's a maintained school in england all parents have a legal right to the educational records anyway. Academies/Free schools are different and don't have to give anyone that information unless they want to. But if the student is over 12~ it's not the parents data to request under SARs as it's the students right to do so (but again Educational records are different) But with both cases, if an email from a parent is recorded on a parental contact of a student that isn't personal info to said student Steve

Then it's not really a SAR request in that sense. SAR is for personal information being held on said person. Parent's already have a right to educational records aside of SAR requests. And in regards to the emails, if it's not linked to a students personal information it wouldn't be available via a SAR anyway unless something else is in that story? Steve

Not sure why it would make any difference really. It's being given to the subject who's requesting it (I'd assume electronically?), and I'm guessing they must have been/or are an EU resident in regards to being at your school in the first place? It'd be different if it's going to an external company but if it's to the subject where they live currently shouldn't make any difference. Steve

Are they fully patched? 1709 brought a USB bug that stopped things working, (basically it failed to upgrade the drivers when trying to pnp and stopped working), but thought that was fixed in a later patch Steve

How long has it been breaking for you for? If it's over 3 weeks can't you just tell them you did a full update 3 weeks ago and get the same issues? Or is it only a recent thing? After all if it's a windows update issues we should all be getting the issues if delaying it which we aren't Steve

We do a 4 week basis using SCCM, so the updates are downloaded after 2 weeks, then held for 2 weeks before being released. Effectively giving 4 weeks time for any withdrawals etc. The only daily ones we do are AV. Can't you just deploy all updates to one machine, and go look it's still broke? Steve

Have you changed any fonts about? Sounds like one's been corrupted. If you go into c:\windows\winsxs and do a search for arial, segoe then verdana, copy all sets of files (not the folder) back into c:\windows\fonts and do a reboot and try it. Steve

Normally if that's erroring you're either missing a reverse lookup zone, or the dc isn't accepting non-secure/dynamic updates for that range. Not much you could do with either if it's on their end though, probably best to wait for them to add a static in for now Steve
