Hmm, them instructions were for IIS 7. If you're using IIS 6, try following these instructions: The Lazy Admin : Configure IIS 6.0 Host Headers

Have you tried going to IIS, right clicking the site, click edit bindings, click add, select appropriate IP and protocol (http or https), then where it says host name, type "student.domain.com"? It will then know to listen and respond to traffic requests to that domain.

I would create an A record to point to your public IP address, so that when they go to yourwebsite.com they'll end up at your website. Then allow port 80 on the firewall, then make IIS listen for requests for http://yourwebsite.com. Or if you already have all of this already setup, then you could create virtual directories from your main IIS box, to the database server where the student portal is.

You could add BGInfo to startup in the registry, that'll fix it, but if you have separate BGInfo files for staff/pupils then it won't be that good of a solution. EDIT: Just been searching this up some more, and found this other thread on EduGeek, http://www.edugeek.net/forums/windows-7/78718-windows-7-bginfo-background-issue.html. Which also has a link to this; http://mockbox.net/configmgr-sccm/178-install-bginfo-silently.html, which should hopefully resolve your problems.

It says it "refused the update request", so perhaps Windows reset the DNS back to the 8.8.8.8/8.8.8.4 addresses as it didn't have any DNS to resolve to at all. That's just my little hypotheses.

Cons: If you were a sole trader, you'd get little time off, it's time consuming, risky, high startup costs. They're just ones I can think off of the back of my head.

Hi everybody, I'm looking in to self-teaching my self the CCNA and then sit the exam. I've got my eyes on these two books, ICND1: CCENT/CCNA ICND1 Official Exam Certification Guide CCENT Exam 640-822 and CCNA Exam 640-802: Amazon.co.uk: Wendell Odom: Books ICND2: CCNA ICND2 Official Exam Certification Guide CCNA Exams 640-816 and 640-802: Amazon.co.uk: Wendell Odom: Books (Both are from the same author). However, if I buy these books I want to get a hands on approach with the gear, rather than emulating the hardware. Can anybody suggest some cheap cisco hardware that I'll find useful when self-teaching myself CCNA, or do you have some old stuff you think may come in handy for me which you no longer require (I'd be willing to pay, but not too much). Also, if you can think of any other decent books, then please suggest them to me. Thanks.

Try disabling each one and then trying it, even if you added it to the white list.

When you create the quota in FRSM, select the box "Auto apply template and create quotas on existing and new subfolders". It will then apply that quota to everybody's folder in the folder you selected. So all of the users in the \\fileserver\pupils\year10 folder, will now have quotas of 1GB e.g.

Ah, sorry, I don't have a solution to that. My solution was for one stage before that in the installation process. Hopefully somebody else here will be able to help you.

Are you getting that stupid error saying it can't find the correct drivers during the install? It then gives you option to find it, blah blah blah... still doesn't work, if so, then post back here, and I'll post how I solved it, as I don't want to post the solution if it's not the right one

Well you can't create dns records to point to IP:Port. You can only have it pointing to IP. As for using it on a dynamic IP, you could you use something like dyndns.com.

Hi, how do you deploy quotas to large volumes of users? You can't select groups for quotas, so you can only use users, however when it comes to setting quotas for large numbers of users, the usual process of creating a quota for a user must become quite tedious. So how's everybody else setting their quotas?

I've seen things like this going on for a while now.

Can you not create an MSP file for it and configure the trusted location settings, then just apply it to the computers.

Hmm, okay. Well... is there anything else you can suggest? I've got roaming profiles setup, would the only other solution be to delete the local profile on logoff? Or do you have any other suggestions?
