When we had the budget we would pay upfront. Usually we would be offered a better deal for upfront payment. These days we simply don't have the money to do this, even if it makes sense over the term of the contract, we simply can't fund a big payment like that.

How do you create your msi? Advanced installer allows you to create mixed 32/64bit installers that puts file and registry entries in the right place. But you need the paid for version. Might be worth it if you do this a lot.

In the 10 years I have worked in education the job has changed a lot and yes I agree busier. I rarely have to get my hands dirty fixing stuff like I used to, everything just seems a lot more reliable these days (with notable exceptions - printers im looking at you!). However, the number of services I have to manage has increased greatly. The demise of the on site tech has been predicted many time but I think we'll be around for a bit yet

We have been cashless for a few years now. We told parents well in advance of the deadline so they were mostly paying for everything online by the time the deadline for cash arrived. No complaints that I am aware of. We have made rare exceptions, one parent didn't have a bank account (and couldn't open one) and the cost of a couple of events have not been worth the transaction fee. We are in a deprived area.

We have smoothwall doing https inspection (since Google removed the no ssl option), all devices accessing the internet have to have the MITM cert installed. Prevent report is emailed to me every night. Moving to Sophos UTM soon which seems (from the demo) to do the same thing.

Not being pedantic but do you really mean backing up the VM host or the VMs running on the host? Veeam is the best VM backup solution I have used.

Well... Ok so, ping will tell you the time it takes to get from a to b, but this can be affected by a lot of things (the medium carrying the transmission, distance and congestion). Bandwidth is how much data you can send down the pipe. So, if the line is not congested and holding the ping transmission up, you can keep increasing the bandwidth as much as you like but it won't make the ping transmission travel down the line any faster. If there is congestion that is slowing the ping down, then increasing the bandwidth will give you a lower ping. Simple analogy, if you are driving on an empty motorway you can travel at 70mph, increasing the number of carriageways won't help you go faster. If there's too much traffic and you are all driving at 30mph, then doubling the number of carriageways might mean that you can all drive at 70 again. Oh and bear in mind, that if you go for a connection with a lot of bandwidth, this might be delivered over different technology so the ping might actually be lower as the transmission can travel down the line faster (eg copper vs fibre) Hope that makes some kind of sense.

Worth noting what ping actually does, which in this case is to report the latency between your machine and the web server. Unless the ping packet encounters congestion, the bandwidth won't effect the latency.

One of the warnings during the setup of sccm software updates is to install *but not configure* wsus on your server. Therefore I think a prudent course of action would be to remove the sccm software update role and the wsus role, so hopefully you are starting fresh, then add the wsus role and then the sccm software update role and configure sccm from there.

So we have a case that we could do with some advice on. For a while now we have been recording a child's extreme bad behaviour to gather evidence for a permanent exclusion. At the exclusion meeting the parents complained that they hadn't given permission for us to film this. They had actually signed out permission letter so dropped the issue. This has opened up the question now, if we have another case of extreme behaviour and need to gather evidence, and the parents have not signed the permission letter, are we not able to film them? Or is there something that exempts us in this situation?
