Certainly a possibility, though I can't see any physical damage on the connector or socket.

The screen does have four screw brackets to mount to the chassis and one of those was bent almost 90 degrees on delivery. I used some pliers to straighten it out so it would line up and that was fine, though I'm wondering if there's also some other underlying issues. It doesn't explain why the old cracked screen doesn't work anymore and has the same symtoms (in terms of what is/not displayed). I've raised it with our supplier who said it may be classed as DOA and could send a replacement. It's approximately 5 years old and we still have older laptops in circulation. I think it still performs well enough to suit staff's needs. I haven't tried and the only Toshiba R50-B laptops we have are allocated to staff as use-at-home laptops. I don't particularly feel like getting one of those in and potentially breaking that too.

I have triple checked that connector and it is as secure as it can be. When the laptop powers on, it powers on fine with nothing on the display. I can use Impero to remotely control the laptop and noticed that Windows is picking up the display and correct resolution. Device Manager shows a 'Generic PnP Monitor', so it definately knows it's there. (I have also checked the brightness, which is at 100%)

One of our staff smashed their Toshiba Sattelite Pro R50-B screen and I've ordered a replacement screen through one of our trusted resellers. Now, I have replaced one of these screens before (albeit about 4 years ago) and I'm pretty sure what I've done is correct. I disassebled the laptop, unscewed the screen and removed the ribbon cable. I put put the new screen, attached the ribbon cable and powered on the laptop. (What I didn't realise, is that the laptop doesn't need much disassebly, only the bezel of the screen and two caps at the hinges need to come off to reveal the screws). Anyway, the backlight of the screen is powering on, but I'm getting no image, not even a BIOS/POST screen. It works with a monitor attached via the VGA port though. After some Googling, a few different replies on various forums suggested resetting the BIOS - so I did by taking the CMOS battery out for a while. Once re-connected and turned on, I get the same issue. I know invertors can be problematic in laptops, but I thought that if the invertor went, you wouldn't even get the backlight? It's only the one ribbon cable that connects the screen to the motherboard, so transmits both power and VGA. The ribbon cable also appears to have a breakout cable under the tape that then carries on to the webcam. I have a repair shop not far from where I live that we use to repair laptops and iPads that are beyond our skills, but I'd rather only take it if I have to - I'd prefer to get it working myself is possible. Does anyone have any ideas?

I deployed out SMART Notebook 19, as part of their free SMART Learning Suite. When installed it automatically activates a 45-day free trial of the premium edition. After that, it reverts back to the free version. We've had no problems with this, writing on the board works without issues. The only nag is when the user launches the actual SMART Notebook, where they're prompted to sign into a SMART account to continue using it. It doesn't make it obvious, but staff can sign up to a free SMART Notebook using their school email address and use that account to use SMART Notebook for free. Some features are disabled, but we don't require those features - almost all essential ones work for the free version.

Don't those features only export the users in the OU you've got selected? If you have organised sub-OUs for student year groups, teaching staff, support staff, admin staff, etc - they won't be exported. I'd use PowerShell command @Norphy posted.

If it's something simple like replacing the display, I'll tend to do that myself. However if it's more involved, like a broken DC jack...I'll take it to a local repair shop (the same shop we use to repair broken iPads).

Do you have Visigo installed? If so, then there's no way for it to install via an automated deployment and has to be manually installed on each machine (because Visigo causes SMART to display a restart diagloue box - which when silently deployed or automated - isn't displayed to the user and thus the insaller fails because it times out from no respose to the restart prompt). If you don't have Visigo and aren't prompted with a restart box during a manual installation, then you can deploy 11.4 with SCCM. I used the SMART Install Manager to configure the settings I wanted and it created the appropriate MST. You can then import the MSI into SCCM and amend the installation command to add the MST file.

Our Papercut server was originally deployed on a 2012 R2 server, back in 2015. I upgraded it to Server 2019 via an in-place upgrade earlier this year and not had any issues with Papercut.

Printers have been a nightmare in Windows 10 for years, even in Windows 8.1 we had issues, specifically one of the errors you mentioned: The user 'Printer Queue Name' preference item in the 'Printer Queue {######-####-####-####-#########}' Group Policy Object did not apply because it failed with error code '0x80070005 Access is denied.' This error was suppressed. Printers do not add at first log-on, but do for all subsequent logons on that machine. A ballache if you need to run DelProf. I've spent such a long time trying to fix it and even had two external IT support contractors take a look. The problem still exists. We use GPP to deploy printers, but it also happens if you use scripts to deploy printers (PS, VBS, BAT). I don't think there's a way to fix it. I am deploying Office 2019 Professional Plus through SCCM and it works. I was sucessfully deploying Office 365 too, but that had others issues around licensing.

If it weren't for SCCM, we'd use PDQ to deploy basically everything that can support silent installations, from 7-Zip, Adobe Reader, Audacity, Office, VC++ Redist, Pearson POP to VLC Media Player. We actually have a fully licensed PDQ installation and do use it from time-to-time. If we have to deploy some software quickly to multiple machines because of lastminute.com, PDQ is much faster than SCCM.

I've heard that it's meant to be quite good, but I absolutely hate jump scare films, or at least at the cinema anyway.

This is something that I'd like to move to, but unsure if I have the expertise to pull this off. I certainly don't have the downtime available any more, since the school is shut during Oct/Feb half terms, all Christmas holidays and three of the six weeks holidays. That only leaves the Easter break, May half term and three weeks of summer. But Easter/May are filled with revision sessions, so I can't even afford downtime then. I wonder how long it would take it we were to get a third party contractor in to do it (obviously extra costs involved).

Hustlers - 8/10 The trailer had initially put me off seeing it as it didn't look like my sort of thing. But then I heard such good reviews about it, I decided to go see it. It was a good film, with some very good performances. Other films I've seen recently, but forgot to post about: The Farewell - 8/10 A nice film - enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Thought it dragged a little at times, but it was a good story and uite humorous in places. It tackled the culter of not telling a family member that they're terminally ill, to save them from the worry/stress. Downton Abbey 7/10 A nice film, nothing significant happens, though it's nice to be back in that world. IT Chapter Two - 7/10 An OK film, carrying on well from the first film. Good cast, god likeness to the original younger cast. I know these films are meant to be a litle humerous but I tend to find them a bit more on the silly side, rather than horror/trhillery.

Just in-case some of you may not be aware, Cunninghams are no longer using ID Manager as the fingerprint management software. They've developed their own in-house software, IDStore and will be switching all customers to this. We've been appraoched by BioStore to replace Cunninghams as the complete cashless catering service and it is extremely compelling. I've also been made aware of the following downsides to Cunninghams IDStore software: It cannot import existing fingerprints from ID Manager - all users have to be manually enrolled again Only one fingerprint per user - no capacity for backup fingerprints Office/catering/IT staff would need training on this new software

You made me remember that I have an entry in my SCCM Task Sequence for it - I'd completely forgotten about that. That is a package that runs the following command: Dism.exe /Online /Import-DefaultAppAssociations:Win10DefaultAppAssociations.xml The XML file is a copy of the same file in SYSVOL (I've checked with a text comparison tool).

I think I just use the default file associations XML defined in GPO: Computer Configuration > Policies > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > File Explorer > Set a default associations configuration file: Enabled > Path to XML (located in my SYSVOL). Here's my XML file: It works for the most part. I'll often get PDF associations failing and reverting to Edge, but that's a bug that's been going on for a while.

I've just been looking through Sky's Nevermiss service to see what's coming up that might be worth recording and I noticed that Dave Gorman has a new show coming up later this month on Dave (the channel) called Dave Gorman: Terms and Conditions. I really like Dave Gorman (I'm going to his stand-up show in Dudley on Haloween!) and I really liked his previous show on Dave (Modern Life is Goodish). Apparently this show is of a similar format, with some differences and guests. I'm looking forward to it.

I haven't done one myself, but my manager does. It generally covers; Printing (3 years - we lease our printers on a contract, which is always a 3 year contract) Desktops - including staff, students/IT suites and bookable resources (5 years) Interactive boards (10+ years) Monitors (10+ years) Wireless networking equipment (8+ years) Wired networking equipment (10+ years) Other devices like staff laptops and projectors are generally rated at 5 years, but are replaced as and when required throughout the year. Other costs to consider are software licenses, such as Microsoft and other subscriptions as on-going yearly costs. We've found that most of our equipment is suitable to last longer than our projected time-scales, but having them makes the right people aware that these costs are required and when they're likely to come up.

It appears to be working now, I'll check it in the morning, after tonights scheduled job. Here's what I did; - Recaclulate the VM size in the properties of the job - Re-scan the backup infrastructure - Disabled the job, adjusted the start time, enabled the job - Disabled the job, adjusted the start time back to normal, enabled the job - Restarted the Veeam service I then started the job and the VM appeared in the list again. I cancelled the job before it mounted the VM and will wait for it to run as scheduled this evening. I don't know if it was a specific one, a combination of, all of or even none of the above that did the trick...but here's hoping!
