  1. Ditto.
  2. I imagine most people will need a few more details about your network before an answer can be guessed at. Peer-to-peer? Client server? Server 2003 / 2003R2 / 2008?
  3. ...and you can download a 14 day trial version.
  4. NovaStor NovaBackup. Comes in all sorts of flavours, including workstation DVD backup, server/tape and web based. At one point you could set up your own web backup (ideal for pyramids!) but have not looked lately. Pretty good value too. There are UK suppliers, pm me if you need a contact.
  5. Cal it Danny John-Jules, or is reverse engineering not allowed?

    rebuild

The one's quoted are refurbished, so you can reassure your boss that it is being at least as green as upgrading the ones you currently have.
  7. 1. Yes, it is free to use, see the link below. Microsoft SQL Server 2005: Express 2. Sorry, no idea on that part. Edit: I am having a biot of a day!
  8. The argument for and against smaller cars is the same here as it is in the good ol' US of A....and frequently heard on the school run. Small cars (or worse still, no car at all) is a dangerous place to be when confronted with a socking great 4x4 / lorry etc being parked by someone stll adjusting their makeup and getting the twins dressed / reading the "Daily Star" or doing their expenses / load manifest at the wheel! Don't flame me, we have all seen them! But people really DO feel they are safer than walking. HELLO! If everyone walked, or had small light-weight plastic bodied electric vehicles, where would the problem be? HGV's? What's wrong with the rail network. Actually I KNOW what's wrong. Thank you Dr. Beeching! Our transport system is a bit like Windows. We need to start again with a blank sheet of paper and not just twiddle with what was there before!
  9. Filled up at Morrisons this morning, 47.9ppl what a RIP OFF. It's only 44ppl at Calor in Norwich! Still at least Ipswich's Morrisons have a shiny new pump system and finally have TWO!!
  10. Have you renamed the "Docstorage" sub-folder to reflect the new server name? (Stop and re-start the service after the change) Have you changed the "Document Server" setting in SIMS .net?
  11. Normally a backup slows down due to the tape “shoe shining”. Where a dirty tape has to make several passes to write data. Check the backup software to see if you have an increase in read / write errors. How old are the tapes? Have you cleaned the drive with a cleaning tape? What OS and what backup software / hardware are you using?
  12. My mates Mrs works as a main line driver. Went round one Sunday to see her sat watching TV in her uniform, she was on standby. Got £350 for that. Didn't even leave the house. But then, how much would we all moan if our train was cancelled due to a driver calling in sick and then no-one beinga ble to replace them? We can't have it both ways. And if you think her £38k a year is spoiling her? The Jaguar hardly makes up for the bad dreams she gets over the three prats that had tried to stop her train with their heads!
  13. “Proportional Representation” is the only fair way of electing members of parliament. After all, it is hardly fair when (for example) the Conservative get (21,000 votes) Labour (19,000), Liberal Democrats (12,000), Others (5,000) and the Tory’s get the only seat! The reason neither Labour nor Conservative parties will give it up, is because they are the two parties that win / win with the “First past the post” way of voting. Mind you, I suppose it is one step up from the elections of old. Thank yourselves lucky you don’t live in “Dunny-on-the-Wold”!
  14. I wish you all the best for the future. I found the site by accident, I cannot recall how. But since then I have been helped, helped others, scrotched to death in a flame war and had my ribs tickled to the point of agony. Where would I be without it?
  15. I have in the past worked from home, purely because I needed to try something out on my own system first. While at home I threw the laundry in and hung it out to dry later. Plus I saved on the commute to work. The point being: - "You have remote access, use it if you wish. If you want to bill us for it, call the caretaker and he will unlock your classroom / office for you!"
  16. Suffolk has Waldingfield and Waldringfield. One near Woodbridge, the other near Sudbury. Err....been there, done that! Sadly I didn't need a satnav (prat-nav?) to make THAT mistake.
  17. "too much "CON" in consultancy" With those kinds of figures you would be greeted with coffee and cakes in most schools I have been too. If it sets your mind at rest, the "Con" bit refers to those who feel "Add a zero" is a good starting point to your numbers, while supplying information which franlkly in most cases is worthless. It seems that in some corners, people turning up in a nice suit gives them greater creedance than someone actually knowing what they are talking about. (No, I DON'T know everything, that's why I come on here!) Rant over, fire extinguisher at the ready.
  18. I hate to say it and I expect a HUGE "Flame war" on this one, but I for one thing there is too much "CON" in consultancy.
  19. Download details: Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 and Windows Vista Service Pack 2 - Five Language Standalone DVD ISO (KB948465) Should take you there.
  20. Recover4all is sitting in my disk bag. I have not used it in a while so cannot comment further. You should be using a CD / DVD based package, certainly NOT something that you have to install (or you may over-write the files you are trying to recover!) (Just tried the disk on my PC, no install required - standalone exe).
  21. I have had three Vauxhall's on the trot. All have done well over 200,000 miles and all have been converted to LPG. Not awe enspiring, but reliable and cheap.
  22. http://www.lawpack.co.uk/Files/SampleChapters/SC_B612.pdf#search="selling your house" (Sorry if the link is in the wrong format, would someone please point out the error of my ways?) I have used these guides, (not this one!) to rent out my house. Well worth a look.
  23. Quite agree with the Spuffmonkey. As there is just the two of you involved, you do not have to watch out so much for being cheated. The mortgage company will need to transfer the loan into the sole name. Pretty easy. The deeds to the house will need to be passed into the sole name, which is no great hardship with the "Tinternet" Searches should not be required as your mate lives there already! Like divorce and the like, the lawyers just want to keep this a 'closed shop' so they can rake in money for doing next to nowt. There is no legal requiremnt that I know of that says you HAVE to employ one. Just as long as the paperwork gets done. Surf the web and go "Self service".

    Unfair!!!!

Good point TN. My brother is a “Successful Banker”, but lives in the worst home of all the family. He has either bought an Island off Spain or he has been telling porkies!

    Unfair!!!!

Yup! Life stinks. I feel for you as you have every right to feel aggrieved. I wish there was a way to cheer you up on this one, but I am afraid it just boils down to... "Life stinks!"
