That's pretty much what I have - except more entries for Chrome. Mine is also on a shared folder and I've also tried to install it using DISM with a startup script, which works for all defaults apart from Chrome!

We had to initially keep IE as our default browser but now its no longer required and we'd like to switch to Chrome. However despite everything I've tried it refuses to budge! I have a Chrome GPO set to make it the default browser, a default associations files pushed out to all PCs setting Chrome as the default, and even a registry preference setting the UserChoice key for http/https - Yet still IE acts as the default! Is there anything else I've missed?

Cheers for that - but I've done the same process on a 2016 server and its working OK now - same login, same settings. Odd,unless there is something afoot with my 2019 server!

Proxy is set by GPO (and visible in IE) but it seems to be ignoring that! I had a look at the .net config - and edited the machine.config file which broke it even tough I added the proxy settings exactly as mentioned in that thread! I had to manually copy the machine.config file from a working server again. I'm going to try Server 2016 and see if that works.

I'm trying to install Azure AD connect on our first 2019 server but simply get stuck when trying to authenticate 'Unable to validate credentials due to an unexpected error. Restart Azue AD Connect with the /InteractiveAuth option to further diagnose this issue. (The remote server returned an error: (407) Proxy Authentication Required). The proxy is set correctly and internet access works ok, so I'm not sure why its thinking authentication is required (its a smoothwall and ad authentication is used) I'm wondering if its a 2019 issue or a AD connect issue?

We have a need to allow various accessibility options for specific users. As we don't use roaming profiles I'm just wondering what is the best way to do this. Do you have a separate GPO for those students to add/allow control panel items, or push out a set of preconfigured options for their individual logins? In most cases these options are disabled due to teachers request that things get messed around, or its simply a distraction to give them the options to play with, but there are cases where the options are genuinely needed so I'm looking for the best plan.

Cheers,I think the GSuite side is OK its the ISP I'm not sure about, as they let you add a subdomain, but only allow email forwarding on it. Having said that as its a subdomain the MX records should be the same.

Ok, so I'm considering a subdomain for our G Suite domain to have a managed set of users (i.e governors) so their accounts will be [email protected] We already have the domain school.co.uk in DNS and fully working and in use in G Suite. Is it simply a case of adding a new domain into GSuite and redirecting DNS for the subdomain to the google addresses, or am I missing something obvious? If anyone has done this before I'd be grateful for any pitfalls or advice

I set a time schedule (tuesday evenings) to allow a set of doors to be open without fobs. I then applied this timezone to the 'Unlock the door during' of NET2 for the specific doors. It worked - but it was a day early! It did it on the Monday not the Tuesday. The events log even shows it opens the doors because of the schedule but it wasn't the right day! The server etc is all set to the right date/time/zone etc and I've never seen an issue with this before Anyone had an issue like this? I'm wondering whether to delete the schedule and recreate it

Definitely - it requires a connection to the internet at all times as it goes through their servers, which I knew but I also suspect it will use a raft of ports that aren't normally open! Designed 100% for home use of course

Despite my advice against it, our place has bought a ring doorbell for an access door. I knew straight away it wouldn't work with proxies/firewalls etc so I have a guest wifi which uses simple password authentication and has internet access with no proxy settings Still doesn't work though, going through the process with the chime unit asking to connect to a wifi network it simply fails to connect, and I can see that dhcp hasn't even given a lease out to that device. I know the wifi is working OK as its used for other byod type of devices so I'm a bit unsure of what it doesn't like Anyone got one of these things working in a school environment?

I think I’ve cracked it, looking in the applocker logs an obscure dll was being blocked in the users temp folder, this dll must be unpacked when the user runs the program. So I whitelisted the dll name and it now seems to work! I hate it when applications unpack files to a temp folder and run them from there,it’s just messy!

Nope, its not showing as a crash in the Windows logs, just the Smart error reporter pops up. Very odd.

Yes, I gave full permissions to Everyone on the ProgramData folder - I can see files being created in there but it still crashes unless Run As admin. If you delete those files in the appdata folder, the files aren't created in there until I Run As administrator - despite Everyone having full permissions

We've downloaded a copy of the free Notebook 19 to try out on our W10 1809 build - but whenever anyone (admins included) tries to run it simply crashes If you Run As Administrator it works, but that's not really a solution. We've tried updating dot net to 4.8 and given full privileges to the installation folders but it makes no difference Anyone got notebook working? I'll be glad to see that back of it to be honest!

Bit of an odd one this - but when users open the Script Editor in Chrome from Google Sheets, it opens the site script.google.com in another page, seems to create the 'Untitled project' but stops with an error 'Unable to load file - try to reload or send an error report' Initially I thought it was a filtering problem, but it works fine in IE when I tested it, so it looks like a Chrome issue or setting. The problem is we don't lock down much in Chrome, apart from setting the proxy and home page, and disabling the Settings page. We do allow Javascript and Flash but I'm not sure if this is relevant. Apparently it used to work but has stopped recently - its not something I use myself so I wouldn't know. Anyone got any ideas as to what Chrome setting might be triggering this?

We've tried external DVD roms and they don't work - only on the Macs. We've just tried Media Player Classic and that works fine - so it looks like its VLC not reading some of these discs.

I wish! Our English and MFL departments still have a good catalogue of DVDs they use.

DVDs are all set to Region 2 - never changed since day one and they all have 5 changes remaining! Its just recently we've seen this so thats why I'm suspicious of it being W10 related - its happening on 1703,1803 and 1809 so far.

Anyone else having more and more issues playing DVDs in Windows 10 these days? We've used VLC for years and have got the latest (3.7) version installed - but we're seeing more and more issues where the DVDs just don't play and VLC seems to just stop working. However, even with another free player (like blaze) the playback is either non existent or choppy/fragmented. This happens on internal drives or external drives, and the external drives seem to be OK as they work when plugged into a Macbook which plays the DVD fine with its inbuilt DVDPlayer app. So it looks like VLC or Windows that's the issue, as the DVDs themselves are either brand new or very new (no scratches!) - and they're all legitimately bought Region 2 discs.

Definitely the last part! I think the HODs are planning to only transfer the newer stuff (i.e last year or so) and leave the older stuff on the network, at some point I will then archive that.

We're sticking with all GSuite - but the file stream works ok for users who don't move around too much. Having said that, once logged into their email they're a click away from Team drives anyway The only limitation I can see is that you can't add sharing permissions to folders on Shared/Team drives like you can with MyDrive - so a users permissions apply to the entire folder structure.

We're looking to move our departments shared folder to a G Suite Team drive for each department. To me this seems as simple as getting the HOD to create a Team drive and give their department access, but has anyone gone down that route and had any issues? Some departments are really keen on the idea - some not so much but once the first few have done it I think they will see the advantages.

I'm using Meraki MDM Systems Manager for a bunch of ipads and I really like the functionality - we're on the free version as we converted a while back. However we're now approaching the 100 limit and although tests with Mosyle (free) have been pretty good, I still think Meraki is the slicker system. The clincher is the cost, I'm waiting for some prices, but has anyone paid for their Meraki System Manager licences? I'm guessing once I hit the 101 mark, I'm going to have to pay for 101 and not just the 1 over! Pricing I've seen for US seems way too much, like $60 per device for 2 years!? Way out of budget - wouldn't be so bad if you could just pay for the devices added over the 100 count.
