Hello, Dont know if anyone has any ideas on this. When the macbook starts up, the trackpad works fine and Caps lock is working but the keyboard or clicking on the trackpad is inactive. However if i wait ten minutes then everything is working fine, but cant see anything to cause the delay. Any ideas? Thanks

Good morning, Wondered if anyone has any advice, on the following. Running windows 7 with Server 2008, we have student and staff profiles. The student custom menu works when redirected but cant get a staff one to work. Even if i point the staff to the student start menu is doesnt work, i think there is a policy setting that is stopping it running but after looking at them all i can see anything. Wondered if anyone had a smiliar setup and if they could share their knowledge. thanks

Think like a lot of posts on here, they go unanswered, good too see you got a solution and passed it on. I have had a similar problem where WGM set a proxy for all users but i have chnaged this to go via another proxy, but the change is not being seen by clients, so they are using the original proxy address, to the point that i can remove all proxysettings from WGM and the clients till connect to internet.

i think having logmein installed is a great tool, not a cheap one but handy to have

Good Afternoon, We have a windows/Mac network and have a NAS Server on the windows network this has an area for the Macs, Called Mac Resource Area. Within this folder i have created folder for each year group and would like the access to the folder to be limited to a group created within WGM. So Workgroup Manager, has user groups, Year 7, Year 8, Year 9 etc. NAS has folder set up as Year 7, Year 8, Year 9 etc. I have been advised that i need to create the permissions from the windows side but dont know how i see the groups from mac side. Any suggestions? Thanks for any assistance offered. Cheers

I have the drivers downloaded as dmg files but when i try to using ARD to install package, then are greyed out and unselectable.

sorry i meant is it possible to install drivers by using Apple Remote Desktop? thanks

i would normallym just havent looked at installing drivers that way but will do, thanks

ah i was thinking that client pulled the drivers from the server. Is there a way of installing the drivers using WGM to the clients? Thanks

HI, been reading through this post with some interest, i have set my printers up onteh xserve and using WGM trying to assign printers to clients. However even though they are set, they are not showing up on the client machines. Any ideas? thanks

Hello rather than create a load of threads i have bundled together some questions that relate to problems i am experiencing on our network. If any one can help or offer any advice it would be much appreciated. BACKGROUND: We have a windows network running server 2008 and stores all users home drives, we have an apple network that is bound to AD and allows for user authentication. The apple network is currently storing the userspace for those users that work on the mac machines in media suites and using WGMAC controls the preferences for the macs. Users are set up as Augmented users running a script that gives the user a xserve network share and a mounted drive on the desktop linking to the windows userspace, this had to be done by a customised script due to the way our network was setup and has caused us many problems. sorry for the long post but questions are coming now. QUESTIONS: 1 When a user logins they seems to have lost their xserve network space from the dock, i am able to set dock items for software via user groups and then computer groups depending on the room they are in. I haev tried "Add Other Folders" but the only one that works is the Applications. Documents and Network home do not show and would really like them to, any ideas? 2 Software updates, the server is set to auto download updates, and if i run check from updates from a client it recognises the updates from the Xserve. What i would like to know is how do i get them to autoinstall the updates to the clients? 3 We use iMovie, and have been reading many threads on here and think i know of possible answers. When a student imports video footage, they dont get asked where to store, as a result the footage is all stored locally so a students has to use the same machine each time. Is there anyway around this? we dont really want students accessing other students footage. 4 Mobile accounts, my biggest nightmare and can only believe this is linked to the fact that the network home is not showing but i can be wrong. I have four staff laptops for teachers that will go home and create resources and would like them to sync with the network as backup. so under comouter groups i have Mobility ticked with "Account Creation" set as always and "Required confirmation" ticked (this is my way of checking the preference runs as we always get asked) we have it set to "create home and default sync settings" Under Rules we have "Preference Sync" and "Home Sync" set as always using the default settings. Now when a user logs in they get asked to confirmation creation of a mobile home and then that is all, i can check their userpsace and it has created a local userspace using the local home template. i can saves files and work locally but these files are not be synced. I used to get the synch icon in the toolbar which stated "Never Been Synced" however the icon has since disappeared though that is ticked under mobility preferences. So basically i would like some advice that would allow me to get mobilyt ans snchin up and running. If anyone can offer any advice on the above i would be much appreciated. Thank You

There are two things you need to check: The Unix ID of the user, and if you're using a Windows server, the Account that owns the root of the file system share. Each user needs an individual unix ID, otherwise the server thinks the same computer has the file open multiple times. The share must be owned by auser other than the workstation user, otherwise the file never gets released. Details here: Word:mac - Can't Save To Server

Hellol I am currently customising the dock for a series of ICT suites in our school, have got everything pretty much looking how i want but i cant get the Network Home to show on the dock, even with it ticked and vaious options lookedat. I wonder if i have ticked soemthing that may affect this option without realising. Cany anyone offer any assistance in solving this issue. Thanks

Hello, i am looking at setting up WGM to allow a series of teachers to allow synching of their laptops. I set up mobility to create a new Mobile Account at Login and to check i ask it require confirmation, which it does so i know the preferences are working, however nothing syncs. With the "create mobile account...." unticked i get the network user space with it ticked i am getting a local userspace, but the two dont connect. If i go to the toolbar and try to manually sync this fails as well. Not sure what else i need to set to allow the syncing to work, so any suggestions would be a great help.
