It depends what the wall is made of. Fifty odd years ago, they use to make a skeleton construction of steel girders and then add a honeycombed wall structure, usually with lots as asbestos. You may be lucky and just have a "normal" wall. Either way, you need advice, your LA will have a team that can come and let you know what to do. It may be very easy, the steel girders in our old build used to let you just cut a few beams out and patch up, very easy and we did it a few times. If its a solid wall, then it might just need a "slot" cutting so you can fit a new beam, then take the wall down below it. There may be another option, think outside the box, literally! Are there any other rooms that you could use instead of these two? narrow think rooms make good store rooms/server rooms and in the longer term this might be a better idea. Phil

For me as a classroom teacher, Id want to be able to demo my screen to the class, exhibit a students screen to the rest of the class, lock the keyboard and mouse of a student so I can wander around to where they are sat whilst they frantically try to close the game website they are on, and also examine surfing history remotely. I would say no, there is no breach. You are only sharing the name of the students which are already in the public domain anyway. From the sound of things, you arent even showing that the birthday is actually today (?) If you are concerned, try adding a simple username and password (can be just a quick javascript jobbie), so people have to actually know the password to see whose birthday it is today. Also, run it past your local authority, regardless of the law, its best to follow local practice. They will have a data section, FOI or whatever. Hope this helps. Phil

More and more, I keep stuff on a pen drive and sync it to my home PC. Docs are prefixed with "01-", "02-" etc so they stay in the order i want. You should invest a bit of time to kick everything into some kind of order, then spend a few minutes each day sorting stuff to keep it that way. It takes seconds to make sure new content goes into the correct place. Having said that, I ignore it all, just keep it all in a big folder with sensible names like "document 1", "important stuff", "dont delete" etc... works a treat, I can never find anything! Phil

I would echo that, the RM set up places too much reliance on key services which have to run on the forest root. Dont even think about running a hybrid network or even two networks. Ditch the lot and jump in, it will be much less pain in the long run. Phil

Ahh I remember the RM upgrade issues with a strange fondness! We went to CC2.4 and it was a nightmare, then upgraded to CC3 and it was also a nightmare. The RM costs are just ridiculous, their hardware, support, installation etc seem to use lottery winning kind of figures. I dont look after the network anymore, we have a very good techie team who will be migrating us to a vanilla M$ network next year. Im glad it is there job, but trust that they will do it well and with less issues than RM caused! Phil
