That is what we have experienced today. A time critical e-mail needed to be sent out but wasn't send out for a few hours. Trying to think if there is a better way of doing it.

We use to allow any member of staff to e-mail an #allstaff distribution group but this got out of hand. We then restricted the system so only approved members of staff can send e-mails to all staff. We have a central e-mail box that staff send e-mails to - get vetted then sent to all staff if applicable. How do other deal with this? We have a lot of other distribution group. Do I let staff send out millions of e-mails or bare the brunt of their frustration?

We have to create a number of users in Mountain Lion Server - Does anyone have an Apple Script or such like to automatically create accounts and folder shares?

As our minds now focus on a lovely 6 week or so break from Teachers we find ourselves thinking - 'What are our summer plans' New Server Builds Maintenance Upgrades Re-Imaging Networking and the list goes on... My question is - What are your summer plans?

I don't think the key is widely known. We run a laptop scheme and students have user rights on their local account, but have admin rights for the first week to install printers etc.

We are installing a new meru wireless network in Summer 2012 to replace our ageing 3com system. We currently used WPA2 on the 3com system but it seem (because of windows 7) the students know the WPA2 key. I wish to change to radius Authentication with Server 2008 R2 (NPS). 1) How have others got this setup - (user or machine authentication) 2) Does anyone have any advice on this? Is this the preferred authentication Method? 3) What are you doing with your Meru wireless network (if you have one) Many thanks

I am looking at ways in which staff can communicate in an more effective way. I have come across MS LYNC. Is anyone using this across the board as a way of communicating? Does anyone have any more information in the configuration and setup of a LYNC server? Does it link into Exchange 2007 for contact etc? Thanks

I need to edit the recently used programs from the start menu on the domain profiles

Strictly speaking it is the shortcuts to the programs most recently viewed where these invalid shortcuts are. The previous ICT manger setup the mandatory profiles and I am not sure if I need to re-created the whole mandatory profile to change the most recently viewed items in the start menu.

We have staff profiles which on the left hand side of the start menu displays *.ink (shortcut) files to word 2003, excel 2003 etc, Since the school now runs Office 2007 these shortcuts no longer work as they are linked to the Office 2003 folder location. Is there a way to change this without having to re-do the whole mandatory profile?

We have created parental account in AD to they can authenticate to the school website to see their son/daughters information stored in an information delivery system. We need this accounts to be enabled so they can authenticate but do not want the parents to be able to log into an domain computer. is there a group policy that will do this?

Is there a way to turn off network discovery in group policies? We are running Server 2008 Remote desktop and all users have access to see the 'Network' under the navigation pane. Even if this panel is removed they can still see network machines in applications. How can we stop this. Using NT permission all the servers are locked down but users can see some of the unhidden shares.

We have been migrating all servers 2003 to server 2008 R2 over the summer. When a user logs into the server via remote desktop they get the pinned items on the task bar. They can see the server manager, powershell and folder icons pinned to the task bar. This is not the case when they log onto any of the school network computers. Their is a group policy in place to unpin all items on the task bar. They also can see the administrative tools on the start menu, and see all the network connections in the windows explorer. One more issue is that it stays on preparing desktop... for 30 seconds or so. I have looked into this issue and Microsoft do have a hotfix but this will not be applied. Has any experienced any of the above problems. This is only an issue when a user logs into remote desktop services.

We are currently running server 2003 x64 virtually using ESX Server 3.5. This is our exchange server. But we are looking to upgrade or create a clean install using another virtual machine

Does anyone know any free alternatives to Pcounter? Or is Pcounter worth the cost?

We are upgrading to server 2008 R2 over the summer. The current exchange server is on server 2003 x64. Is it a good idea to do a simple upgrade on this server or is a fresh install better? With Service pack 3 for Exchange 2007 supporting 2008 R2, is it a better idea to migrate the data from the old 2003 server to a clean 2008 server? If so does anyone have any experience of this?

I am setting up a print server on Windows Server 2008 R2. Is it possible to move the print spooler location to another drive like in Server 2003. I can't find a way to do this. Many Thanks

We have a monitor mounted in a foyer for students to view. This is monitor is linked to a computer running a powerpoint presentation. We are currently having to stop the powerpoint and edit when the status of a repair changed. This is about 10-15 changes a day, each time having to vnc to the computer running the presentation and editing the file. How can I create a single file that can be updated and linked to the school website that reads this file and refreshes the page at a 30 minute or so interval? I have very limited knowledge of website creation as our website is outsourced. And even more limited knowledge on creating a website that calls data from a file that is constantly updated!!
