  1. Hi Guys, I would like to copy the permissions of a directory and anything within it to several other directories of the same name located on different machines. I don't want to copy the directory itself, or the contents as they differ between machines. I just want the same permissions. Is this possible as I haven't found anything that seems to do this? Any help would be great. Thanks.
  2. Thanks both of you. Very useful and I' have it sorted now! The only thing left for my profile to be complete is to remove the favorites. I have applied a reg update to the following key: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{323CA680-C24D-4099-B94D-446DD2D7249E}\ShellFolder I came across this on various websites on google as well as on here, however I can't get it to remove Favorites. Any ideas?
  3. This sounds great, I'll check it out. Thanks.
  4. Hi, We are finally moving our students over to Windows 7 over the summer so I have been trying to get our images and profiles sorted early. I have created the profile and it is almost fine, however I'm having trouble with My documents and all the different libraries, my music folders etc. I've looked through a lot of threads on here with regards to this but nothing seems to be doing what I want, or I'm doing it wrong. What I've done is redirect My Documents to a users network share and this is mapped in My Computer and the link on start menu goes there also. I've applied Reg fixes to remove Favorites, Libraries etc from My Computer but when saving files within a program they still show up. Is there a way I can absolutely get rid off EVERYTHING so I'm just left with my redirected Documents to the one network share. I hope this makes sense. Any help with this would be great. Cheers.
  5. I have used this same file with an image about a year ago and it worked fine. What I do is: Install windows and all programs etc Stick Unattend.xml in the sysprep folder and run sysprep gui Sysprep does it's thing and restarts where I boot into WDS and capture the image.
  6. I have created a Windows 7 image and used WDS to deploy it. I have a couple issues with my unattend file. en-GB en-GB en-GB en-GB activates local admin 1 net user administrator /active:yes true XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX xxxxx xxxxx false en-GB en-GB en-GB en-GB cscript.exe c:\windows\system32\sysprep\join.vbs join domain 3 false 1 cscript.exe c:\windows\system32\slmgr.vbs /ato activate windows false 2 c:\wireless.cmd set wireless settings false true false Work xxxxx true xxxxx true Local administrator administrator administrators administrator xxxxx xxxxx false GMT Standard Time It should prompt for a computer name and then on first log on it should activate windows, join domain and copy the wireless settings before restarting. It joined the domain itself, didn't prompt for a name and called itself 'administrator3' Then on first log on it activates and adds the wireless correctly. Can anyone see why this is happening? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.
  7. UPDATE: I tried running sims logged on as a local user and it opens quickly as normal.
  8. I copied a large file across and it was consistently between 5-6MB. Same for copying back. Pinged the server and didn't drop at all. They're not in another vlan. Firewell settings come from the DC and they haven't changed at all.
  9. Hi, We have recently upgraded our wireless to a Meru system which is brilliant apart from an issue we are having with SIMS. If plugged in with a cable it runs as normal but on wireless it will hang on the splash screen for anywhere between 2-10 minutes before opening. All other programs seem to be fine. (No one has reported anything) Has anyone experienced this before or have any ideas as to what is happening? Thanks.
  10. They are student laptops and at the moment all student machines are still XP as some machines are just too old for windows 7 to run properly. We are actually looking into using 7 on the newer machines alongside XP on the old. Just trying to sort out profile issues. In the meantime I would like to get these working.
  11. yes, SP3.
  12. Will have a go at getting a photo once I'm back at work. I haven't checked any updates but I've re-imaged a laptop from 6 months ago, which wouldn't have any new updates, and I'm still getting the problem.
  13. Hi, I've got 4 laptops running XP that had been working for about a year with no problems and now I'm getting a blue screen as soon as they connect to a wireless network. Nothing has changed with the network at all and I'm also getting this problem at home. I have tried the latest drivers. I have tried older (apparently stable) drivers I have wiped one and started fresh I have disabled wireless N as someone suggested on a site from a google search The card is an Intel 2230 If anyone has any suggestions that would be great. Thanks
  14. Hi, I have a brand new Toshiba U920t tablet and after restarting it to install windows update it just hangs: "keep your pc plugged in until this is done. Installing update 1 of 36" It was like this for about 6 hours before I tried to restart it and see if that did anything but it just comes straight back to this screen. I had a search on Google, but found nothing that seems to help. Any ideas? Thanks.
  15. They are on either channels 1, 6 or 11 as I was told these were best to use as they won't overlap. And it is set up so any APs nearby are on another channel. If nothing has changed though, why would this be the case? Thanks for the suggestions guys, I will give them a go.
  16. There will be about 70 odd laptops scattered around the school. Other devices, phones etc would only connect if we gave access to them. There will only be a handful of these and not used often enough to see any issues really.
  17. We have several different laptop types. They are XP and Win7, both experiencing this issue. Have tried reimaging, so it has done it before any updates and after.
  18. They are Proxim AP-4000Ms and we have about 20 of them. I'm not sure of all the setup details as they were in place when I got here. I can look up any settings if need be?
  19. I've had a look and can't see any conflicts. There is plenty of space in DHCP.
  20. Hi, We are experiencing a problem with our wireless network at school. What happens is; a laptop will see the wireless network fine and connect but will randomly drop connection. This could be after 5 minutes or after an hour. The wireless is still showing as full signal but it just won't connect. Then it will just connect by itself again. This is happening school wide and to any laptop at any time. All channels have been checked and changed where necessary so there are no conflicts. The wireless has been fine for years, nothing has changed and now this all of a sudden. We are really stuck. If anyone has any ideas that would be great. Thanks.
  21. Thanks for the suggestion but we are still experiencing this problem.
  22. Hi, I have a problem with disabling content advisor and hope someone can help. Before we invested in a management system to block websites etc, we set up content advisor on our DC and pushed it out with policy to block student websites. However, we have since disabled content advisor within IE and removed the policy but our students are still getting the blocked content message pop up. Is there a way to get rid of this? Thanks for your help.
  23. It is through a proxy but I normally don't experience problems. Never heard of VAMT before but I've just set it up and works a treat! Thankyou.
  24. More than 10. We had a load of new laptops, some have activated but quite a few have not. It's very strange as they are all the same.
  25. Hi, I'm having trouble activating windows 7 from a command line script: slmgr -ipk productkey slmgr -ato I get this error: On a computer running Microsoft Windows non-core edition, run 'slui.exe 0x2a 0xC 004F015' to display the error text. Error: 0xC004F015 I have searched online but everything refers to a KMS server. I'm just using a MAK key. Any help would be great, Thanks.
