Unfortunately It appears that renaming the file may stop your Wireless connection also. --- s24evmon.exe is an application that gives access to your wireless network interface devices configurations and diagnostics. I think the single game that I played for the longest single stretch (excepting Elite) was probably the orignal "LEMMINGS"... Some of those levels on max difficulty where proper hard...If you tried to release a game that required pixel perfect timing these days They'd lock you up.

Specifically we are looking into the possibilities of OS X and/or Linux builds of our own Winfolder software. It writes the data back to a SQL database which would then interface with the back-end MIS systems, which would still be on its native platform. In essence it would facilitate "collection" of data on the Mac and Open Source platforms.

Thought I would test the water here and on the MAC forums as to degree of interest in use of Macs for collection of registration data. Would any Mac using members be interested in software that allows them to take attendance registration and collect grades in classroom (on Curriculum Network). The software will also update their back office MIS eg SIMS.Net, Serco CMIS, and RM/Phoenix. Thanks in advance for your comments

Dear Mr.Condon Thank you for your e-mail message dated 25 October 2007, which was received by the JCQ Office. The JCQ publication Instructions for conducting coursework/portfolios - 1 September 2007 to 31 August 2008 deals with the retention of candidates' coursework. Page 15, Section 25, Return of Work to Centres, paragraph 25.2, states that 'centres are required to retain candidates' marked coursework, whether or not it was part of the moderation sample, under secure conditions until all possibility of enquiries about results has been exhausted. Where retention is a problem, because of the nature of coursework/portfolio work, some form of evidence (e.g. photographic, audio taped or videotaped) must be available. Centres are requested to keep a record of the examination numbers and names of those candidates whose work is included in the sample sent to or seen by moderators. This information may be required if there are enquiries about results at a later date. In the case of e-coursework, protection from corruption should also be taken into account'. We (Bromcom) can indeed write the attendance back to SIMS using the API's. This can even be implemented should you not have the front end registration system. We have successfully implemented the attendance write-back for some areas so that the EWO's could access the information and this had to be done for all the schools, even those that weren't using us for registration purposes. The Data Protection Act only applies to Personal Data and I cannot find any definition of Personal Data that covers coursework, so there's nothing from that particular hotbed of policy that I can suggest would apply here. Regulations on "attendance" data state that records are to be retained on electronic media (if using an electronic registration system) for 5 years and then on paper archive beyond that. Thats a reasonable policy to adhere to? In the absence of anything else more appropriate anyway. I'm making some "enquiries" to see if I can't get some more definite answers.

MSSQL Profiler is built into the Full release of SQL. This can be used to montior any and all SQL requests coming into a database. As a component that may already be part of your install it could be considered "free". Only operational flaw with it in your scenario is if you are trying to track the input from one particular application as Profiler logs "everything" coming into the SQL server. Hope that helps

This is purely from my own limited experience of Vista on my home system but it seems to have a general hatred of all things .BAT. However try using the extension .CMD instead. It works for very simple batch files eg. the sort used to launch Java apps. Not sure what syntax differences there are between .BAT and .CMD (may be none). Give it a try.

I'll leave Phil to give answers for SIMS future development. But to confirm Ravening_Wolf's statement. The Bromcom software suite has been almost completely Browser based and SQL back-ended since 2001 and the forthcoming MIS product (Oct 2007) will be likewise.

Joined the site in an official capacity but hell, why not get involved in the social side too.. Been playing WoW since EU Retail launch and have a main on Earthen Ring - Lvl 70 Dwarf Warrior. Although I find myself playing LOTRO more at the moment (That lifetime subs offer was too good to pass on.. no monthly fee!!!)

I have checked out the Bromcom position on this one and one of our staff also attended the WiFi conference at Olympia this week to check on other potential concerns. The program makes a lot out of potential problems with radiation and young skulls and possible extra sensitivity to radiation of young children. We should first off note that Bromcom is a teacher based system with no hand held wireless devices being issued to the children. Some of our users have our original G1/G2 technology which emits at 0.25 milliWatts versus typical WiFi which is 100 milliWatts or 0.1 Watt. Users of our WinFolder product, if used over WiFi minimises the use of wireless because of its "super efficient" data package construction. The company's response to the radiation question is to refer to the Health Protection Agency see http://www.hpa.org.uk/radiation/understand/radiation_topics/emf/wifi.htm and further infomation on subsequent links including http://www.hpa.org.uk/radiation/understand/radiation_topics/emf/wlans.htm which conclude that on the basis of current scientific information WiFi equipment satsifies international guidelines...and there is no reason why schools and others should not use WiFi equipment. As always it is very difficult to prove a negative - how can anyone prove that WiFi is not harmful? Its really down to someone to prove that it is harmful and that has not been done yet. The poster - Vegas- already did a good summary on May 21 including the same references to the Health Protection Agency such as "WiFi devices are of a very low power, much lower than mobile phones". Hope that helps to allay any fears..

Well I can't possibly excuse my tardy response, almost a year Not the usual calibre of response time I expect from our Helpdesk. Norphy, your Winfolder comment got me thinking as it is possible for the system to be installed and configured in such a way that you all run from a shared locale. That would probably cut down the installation configuration time at your school significantly.
