  1. Last year in Oldham we had one day of real heavy snow, pupils and staff made their way in and life went on. The LEA in their wisdom decided that all schools were to be closed the next day for pupils. When i got up in the moring all the snow had melted, plus side, no kids
  2. 0c on my way in on my bike this morning in my mountain bikeing shorts, kids thought i was mad? Speeding past them as they amble in wrapped up like Eskimos.
  3. Always thought that this was a major problem with Microsoft Servers. At least in Novel you can salvage deleted files just in case.
  4. We use DNA Smart water on all of our kit, dosn't leave a visible mark but excellent for id of recovered kit. We also have extensicve CCTV (for the kids protection) with which we have caught 2 out of the last 3 sets of intruders. Its funny watching them go around the school with their hoodies up, only to be caught unawaress by some well placed camara's. The last group (4 toe rags who have hit most of the schools in the area) are all on trial this month. Keeping my fingers crossed.
  5. Anyone ever had a problem like this? A laptop and data projector that have lived in harmony for a number of years stop working together. You can plug the laptop into another and hey presto it works! and you can use another laptop on its partner fine. This has happened a couple of times now and i have no answer. Help
  6. Still use my CD server to store CD's on for install's
  7. Just spent this years elearning credits on 2 CPS systems for use in class and quess what? Still in their box's.
  8. Why is educational software sh*te. Is it because its designed by teachers ? It never works on your network the way the salesman says. We spent all our elearning credits on Cartouche years ago and i've never seen it used since.
  9. The kids loan the laptops from a company. They use them at home and school. Were going to start with wireless hotspots. God knows about storage and chargeing. Can imagine the following - Teacher - "where's your homework" Pupil - "sorry me dad sold me laptop for crack!"
  10. Unfortunatly no money for Citrix, will have to rely on 2003.
  11. Networked Colour Laser Printer. The head of ICT is to tight to buy replacement toner. When i came to this school 4 years ago they had a brand new Smart Board, boxed up that they had won 18 months before.
  12. Our Head (god bless her forward visionary thinking ) is going to allow y10 + 11 pupils to hire laptops for use at school. Anyone out there do this kind of thing already ? Spoken to one school where they allow kid full admin on the local but apply policy's when connecting to Network (Netware). Looking for ideas on what to do for users data, local only or sync to server, full domain access or just mapped network drive and connect to internet through IP.
  13. Wish i did. My old school is still a Netware site and uses the likes of ZEN Works and Border Manager to good effect. NDS out performs active directory and you have far less issues with patch's.
