Just looking at Peasoup to get an idea pricing but I'm confused at the different options. From the pricing page https://peasoup.cloud/pricing/ I have chosen backup service (cloud storage) and Veeam Cloud Connect and on the next page it have a number of different options that I am unsure about. For background info the MSP is charging £1800 for 1TB of storage and this is backing up the file server, sims server and the AD. Those servers are VMs held with the MSP and we do not have access to the VMs so any backup agents used will need to be installed on the server and backup just the files and not the whole VMs.

Wow so much cheaper than the £1800 we are paying for 1TB.
-
Yes I was thinking the same but as the servers are offsite there's no reason not to have the NAS in school but the only problem I can see is the internet speed as the school is using a 100Mb line and pulling the data down would take a while.

Our servers are offsite stored with the MSP and looking at the invoices is making me dizzy. The latest invoice is for a 1TB Ahsay backup at £1800. Ahsay appears to work well and the MPS has recovered files when we ask them but seems very expensive. What are other schools paying for a cloud backup? Thanks.

The answer to this question is each version of Office needs it's KMS key adding using the appropriate volume license pack.

The school is still using Office 2019 LTSC so I am rolling out Office 2024 LTSC but some users still need Publisher. For those users I have installed 2021 LTSC. I have installed the 2024 KMS key and those using Office 2024 activate fine but those using Office 2021 do not activate. I have tried ospp.vbs /act but the command errors saying no KMS service can be found. I thought using the KMS key for latest version of office would activate earlier versions like Windows does. Do I need to install the KMS key for each version of office? Thanks.

Just wondering what happens to files that a user has in their recycle bin when the user gets deleted so for instance John has deleted files from a shared folder on the server or has deleted files from the local drive, the files are still listed in John's recycle bin then John's profile gets deleted from the PC. Would the recycle bin get emptied thereby permanently deleting the files?

That's the one! I changed it so SSO applies only to students and it tested fine. Thanks both for your help.

The students use Chromebooks which on the whole work fine and I'm sort of getting to know the system after being here a few months. The problem I have now is logging on to Google via a PC using their credentials and I have tested with a student and staff Google logon. On testing once the email address has been entered instead of asking for the password it brings up a Wonde logon with an emoji and magic badge. We use Mylogin which is part of Wonde on the Chromebooks but it doesn't need to be shown when logging on a PC. Where would the setting be for this on the Google admin console? Thanks.

We have 3 different models of Chromebook and I was testing with the only model that doesn't work with the Google Play Store. When I looked at the other 2 models they had installed app fine. To ensure all Chromebooks work with ScratchJr I removed the app and added the link to the bookmark folder so they all use the same version. Yes I spotted that but thanks for pointing it out.

I'm stuck trying to install ScratchJr on our Chromebooks. I have added the app under my test OU using Devices>Chrome>Apps & Extensions>Users & Browsers, add from google play and set it to force install + pin to chromeOS taskbar but it is not installing. Looking on a Chromebook chrome://policy I see ExtensionInstallBlockList has "*" and ExtensionInstallAllowList has other apps we use but I cannot find ExtensionInstallAllowList in Google Admin as was thinking I may need to add it to the allow list. Any advice how to fix this? Thanks.

I like this so will try this first method first.

I see where you’re going with this but unfortunately we do not have a spare router and no chance of getting one either as orders have stopped until Easter. We are in contract with the ISP for another 12 months so later in the year we will be looking for a new provider anyway. See answer above.

I have inherited a unifi network consisting of USW Pro, USW Lite switches and AC LR APs. The router is a small HP model but I have no access to it. The network is completely flat but they have the main SSID and a guest SSID all on the same network with no isolation between them. At my old school I used VLANs to separate the networks and the ISP did their bit on the router and there were no issues. Here the ISP seems reluctant to create VLANS on the router and instead said I could isolate the networks using Unifi alone. Is this so and how would I achieve this?

The school I've taken over has CCTV using an Abus NVR plus someone has fitted 2 Unifi Protect G3 cameras in the corridor. The wifi is using a Unifi cloud key and the G3 cameras are listed in the console. Although I have the credentials for the cloud key and can logon the credentials are not working when logging on the the G3 cameras directly. How do I view the Unifi cameras as I've looked through the Unifi console but don't see a way to view them? Does the cloud key record the G3 cameras and is it possible to connect the cameras to the Abus NVR and use that instead so all the cameras are in one place? Thanks.

I should have said it's a primary Thanks that seems a good one but not sure why all the low points on the graph.

We are on a 100Mbps connection and have been having a few problems with our internet recently so I tried running a speed checker but getting very different results. All test were performed one after the other. speedtest.net 63/95 fast.com 5/84 google 9/84 Testing one hour later speedtest.net 63/94 fast.com 14/79 google 7/57 Are there any better tests I can run?

Update: We had the iPads added to our Apple account so now ready to setup the iPads properly but looking at Jamf I see the automated device enrolment certificate has my predecessor's Apple account which is now blocked by Apple. Long story but we got Apple involved to reset the passwords as the Apple account we had didn't work so they fixed that plus blocked my predecessor account. So I'm in Jamf looking at Organization > Settings > Apple Push Notification Service and want to delete the certificate so I can add a new one but unable to as there are still devices using it and it says to trash the devices first. My question is if I trash the iPads how can I get them back into Jamf? Thanks.

Hope they doesn't included just checking email as speaking from a primary school point of view most TAs would not use computers if it wasn't for checking email as management now insists on sending everything electronically.

Looking at renewing our MS OVS licences and wondered if the FTE is still 200 hours and is that 200 hours of using a PC or just employed for 200 hours? What if we had 2 staff each working 100 hours, what that count as 1 FTE? Thanks.

The servers are offsite with the MSP and I don't have access to the host so no snapshots when installing software or updates. The host is running Linux but the VMs are Server 2019. The question of processers and cores came up when looking at MS licencing which is due for renewal soon and the current licencing is through the MSP. I have a feeling the school is not getting best value when buying licencing from them so there you have it. Only been at this school for 6 weeks and keep finding poor value that the school has bought.

I've had a very busy weekend and my brain is still asleep please help! On this capture what are the number of processors, cores per processor and total cores? I'm thinking 2, 4, 8 am I correct? Thanks.

Thanks for that. When I saw the iPads were not enrolled I was surprised as thought they have to be before they could be added to Jamf.
