  1. Woaaaah. Badminton School, eh? Used to be my old place, I'm guessing you're Suba's replacement? I left (:/) March 2010. I'd be interested in the AT-8326GB, currently after a managed switch to have a go on and get used to (we've got Ciscos' here but none for me to learn on). I'll be keeping an eye on the eBay auctions when posted.
  2. In our place we're got a large number of AverMedia SPB 350 Flatbed Visulisers. For the most part they seem to work squite well, although we've got one which will sit with the power light on but not do anything. Typically, I'd expect the "Camera" or "PC" blue light to be on. There's no output on and I've not had any problems with them before. It's about a year old and was working fine (or so I'm told) before the summer break. AverMedia isn't the easiet company to get in touch with (US based, I believe). I've also looked for an online manual to find if it's possible to do a "hard reset" but I can only find spec sheets and basic user guides. Thanks for any suggestions.
  3. I would like to add that the absolute latest is 2.6.5 which I've recently had to use as we've been having a few (major) problems recently, although the FROG support site still says 2.6.0 is the latest therefore you should only as for .5 if you need it.
  4. I'll echo this as well, I'm getting "connection to localhost:9312 failed (errno=111, msg=Connection refused)". Will doing a google search for site:edugeek.net work (behind the red door excluded, naturally)? EDIT: Haha, never mind.
  5. In my time I've worked with one female IT technician (although she was half IT technician and half PE techician), while met a female network manager when I was on a traning course for the VLE. Young (my age, ~21) female technicians are something reminiscent of a mythical creature.
  6. All the Staff laptops have Ranger 5.5 installed on their laptops are part of the image but many haven't used it yet as it needs activation. When they try to activate it it needs to be activated by an admin which means I need to log in, activate Ranger, copy the class lists across, restart, and then log the teacher back in. For one or two computer I don't mind but when you've got 100+ laptops it's a bit of a daunting challenge. Is there a utility or knowledgebase article or any suggestions into achieving this? ta.
  7. Thanks for the YouTube link. Before last month I didn't know what a pkg or dmg was, I'm guessing it's the Apple equivalent of a .exe? And ARD? Let#'s not run before we can walk
  8. Bear with me, for I'm an utter and complete n00b with regards to Macs. Personal preferances aside, tomorrow I've been asked to "assist" with getting one of our Promethean Boards working with a Macbook. I've got the software and that's about it. - Does a Mac need drivers installing? How do you do it? - How do you even install programmes? - There's no tray icon, per se, so how do you calibrate it? For something like this I expect it will take a long time to learn and get right and I expect you may say "get someone who knows what they are doing" but for details I'm not going to go into I'm pretty much on my own1 as none of the IT team are mac-compatible. 1: Well, me, the internet, and the teacher than wants it done.
  9. Saw this on the Register earlier...guess what we have for our macs? Which is a shame, because our xServe is deafinately one of our nicest looking servers. Oh so shiny.
  10. In the end I used a mixture of shortcuts, batch files and qres. Works surprisingly well.
  11. Hello, We've got RM Successmaker running on our Windows 7 Machines although the activity windows is very small (1/4 of the screen). After contacting RM there is nothing we can do untill end of october(ish) when 1.7.1 is released. I have found a workaround is changing the resolution to 1024x768 is sufficent, although is there an option in Active Directory to do this on a per-machine basis?
  12. Updated the bios to the lastest (July 2010) still nothing :@
  13. Yes, I am expecting to get this replaced under warrenty. Just wondering if anbyody else had had the same problem or knew of a solution.
  14. Hi All, Don't know if anybody has had expereince with the HP Compaq 8000s Ultra Small Form Factor PCs? We have a load of these at students and some staff computers and they aren't too bad, apart from one. It works fine, although the main system fan is spinning at over 6000 RPM, blowing out a lot of air and noise. I don't know why because it's in a nice air-cond' room, the BIOS idle fan speed is set to the lowest level and the processor is idling at around 45degrees. I'm out of ideas (and as it's a member of SLT i'l like a quick response to this). I'm temped to quick fix by just unplugging the fan but not sure how the processor would cope. Could also swap it out with a spare in our office, but I'd still like to get to the bottom of this.
  15. I will swap the bulb for one from a projector that works and see if that does indeed make a difference. It's a bit of a surpirse it has failed, it had only been installed for two months and in use for less than two weeks.
  16. I'll second MineCraft, been playing it for a few months now. Creative is gereat fun, although you may get the little rascal who likes to destroy instead of built. Does require JAVA and probably 1GB RAM. Other than that, OpenTTD is a good one. Could be a bit hardcore (well, it's a potentiall complex transport sim). Goes have cheats in single players but over LAN not.
  17. Hi (again). I have a Promethean PRM-25 projector in one of the classrooms. The Power light flashes 5 time, then the ready light flashes 5 times after that. It doesn't respond to the remote and turning it off at the wall, as much as I hate to do it, brings both lights on for a minute and then it goes back to flashing. The manual says 5 power led and 5 readly led blink means "Lamp extingiushed during normal operation" and I'm not sure what this means or how to sort it out. Is there a reset combo on the remote?
  18. After trying with a different computer it works fine so it is indeed the laptop and not the board.
  19. It is a promethean, yes, is the newest board with newest software and drivers. I will try a different laptop when I have the chance.
  20. Hi, On one of our new board the pen is calibrated and works, although when using it produces gaps in the writing (line). We've tried a different pen and the staff member has tried to push hard on the board but to no avail. I can get a picture if need be.
  21. Thanks for both of that. Appparently the problem was something to do with permissions and nothing to do with backwards compatabilty whatsoever. Thanks.
  22. Thanks for a quick reply. I will upload tomorrow morning as I am somewhat frazzled after one hetic day. Also, are we covered to give teachers ActiveInspire for installtion on their personal laptops? We had a school's worth of promethean boards installed over the summer (BSF project) so I dare say we have plenty of licenses.
  23. Hi, We're using ActiveInspire 1.4.2 and some of our staff have found they can't open some of their .flp files created in 1.2 and older. A number of them have spent time over the summer creating resources and are not happy bunnies at the prospect of re-creating their files. Error is "Unable to open [path].flp" Any help or suggestions would be appricaited. Tom.
  24. We don't want to upgrade to 1.7 due to incompatabilities with our current SM Database. I think I'm making progress though, once I know its all owrking properly I'll wite up a guide.
  25. Oh god. I've been asked to do a clean install of RM SuccessMaker 1.3 onto our new network. We're running a Win7/Server 2008 Vanilla Network so we don't have a support contract with RM and the support materials I've found are for much much older networks. Does anybody have any advice on setting up the Sybase Database, importing a backup from an old server and getting the damn thing to work? We have the old server and want to make a virtual machine with this on, I suppose it could be done a long way round by cloning the machine but I'd rather not have to do this. Thanks. EDIT: I've tried to install the software and after it asks me to locate the database it crashes with a 3081: FileRead: Invalid File Handle error. Google isn't much help.
