thanks. how about going straight to outlook at login?
-
I've removed sites and newsfeeds links so they don't appear when students login to 365 but how can I remove the office stuff, word online, excel online etc? 365 is going to be used just for outlook in the first instance so how can I get it to log straight to the outlook part if 365? this is adfs, dir sync etc from our 2012 network. thanks

I am trying to create a mandatory profile for students in Windows 8. I have created the profile but (logged in as admin) the 'Copy To..' button is always greyed out in User Profiles. In Win7 I use a great tool called 'Windows Enabler 1.1' but this doesn't work in Windows 8. How are we meant to copy a profile to a network share now then?

OK, so how do I turn on the "welcome message"?
-
aarh OK - Thanks, how do I turn on the "welcome message"?
-
what about post 6? I have enabled that setting already..?
-
I have tested it with a new user with student GPO applied and no profile specified ands it still 'black screens' it MUST be something to do with the GPO....aaargh annoying.
-
I definitely have that Computer GPO enabled - First Sign-in Animation - Enable or Disable in Windows 8 - (checked REG and RSOP) but still students get the black screen, yet staff get the correct login messages. There must be something in the Users GPO that is giving this behaviour. Staff and Students have different GPO's. ideas?
-
Thanks, I am thinking that GPO will (also) turn on the 'swipe from the left' ,graphic you get when you are actually signed in? as the users can sign into both win7 and win8 machines how can they not share a profile?

Thanks, how do I turn on the "welcome message"? I already have a win7 profile for students..

When I log in to my new win8 tablet\notebook as admin (minimal GPO settings) I get 'just setting things up for you'...'installing your apps' 'nearly finished' etc messages but as a student (lots of GPO settings) after the initial 'Welcome' and spinning dot graphic, it goes to a black screen (mouse cursor visible) then eventually logs in. So what GPO is hiding the messages? Any ideas? as an aside even after removing the builtin apps (with powershell) it takes 5+ mins to initially log in...

does anyone have any recommendations to get wake on LAN working across subnets? machines are dhcp so it can't be a solution based on IP addresses. previously used wolcmd but that used 255.255.255.255 broadcast which won't work now. netgear layer 3 core.

Ghost Imaging using PXE and WDS booting clients across layer 3 network
petben replied to petben's topic in O/S Deployment
we use netgear switches, with a netgear layer 3 core switch. what and where do I put the helper address. I'm very new to this outing stuff. -
I have been using Ghost Imaging using PXE and WDS for many years. I have just had a layer 3 routing network put in and now Ghost is not working, the clients can F12 boot but it finds no server. The network engineer thinks it can be fixed by adding DHCP server options of 066 'Boot Server File Name' and 067 'Bootfile name'. These options were never there before...I have tried a few options in the Bootfile name and I can get the boot menu to appear and choose the Ghost session to start, but it can never actually contacts the server. any ideas?

can you recommend a hardware mod? I thought being such enclosed units modifying hardware would be tricky?

after a recent break in, I've been tasked with investigating 'tracking' software for our iMacs. there are various options on net (£££) some that give locations, take screenshots, photos etc. I'm firstly dubious of it use, as they can't log into the mac due to school network settings, so they will wipe it....hence wiping the tracking software?? anyway, any comments and recommendations?

I am using WDS to install win7 is there a way to force a username and password prompt (so students cant image computers) I still need to leave in the answer file (as this is required for the 'system locale' to be set). I have played with image permissions but no luck, it either is available or not, I can't force a prompt for UN and PW. Thanks

I am pretty conversant with WDS but there is a lot of stuff on net about mixing it with WDtK, i dont get how it ties in? I find the answer file part of wds annoying, can I do sine thing in WDtK about this? I have my template machine ready..then what? do I boot to a capture image on WDs or use WDtK somehow?
-
I have had a look at all those. SCCM is indeed mind boogling. If I use WDS and I want to setup a template machine, then capture it, is there any point in using WDTK as well?
-
does anyone use Acronis Snap Deploy 4? I really like their home image and this supports server storage, PXE etc. I'm giving up the ghost (SS 2.5) so I want a new solution.

what does it mean if random secure sites give the page cannot be displayed error, but if in IE10 'send page by email' shows the complete and rendered page in the email? the sites are crashing in IE and Firefox, for some users and not others with identical settings. all v strange, any advice would be great! reset IE settings works for a bit, then crashes again! argh.

Internet Explorer 10 - Scroll Down Issue
petben replied to mshakespeare's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
is there a fix for this scroll down/smart ink issue with Ie10? I have and need IE10 and smart ink working! thx -
school wants to buy a trolley of 30 x something to allow students to log on wirelessly, web browse, word processing, print maybe. I suppose a few years ago it would be netbooks but these are now EOL. Laptops are too big, short battery life etc. windows tablets are £££ for the pro version to allow domain logon. iPads aren't really multi-user devices, but we can get wired keyboards now... so what's the solution? thanks for any ideas.

I need to investigate the cause but resetting IE works really nicely using this PS script: Reset Internet Explorer all Setting to default using PowerShell Script It works even though GPO is set to not allow users getting into IE settings. Pretty cool really, I can get users to run this themselves if they need to.
