  1. We are an Impero school - and at the rate it is being developed I wouldn't be surprised if it caught up with the features that NSM offers. Although I like the software, I will warn any prospective schools that Impero is, for some reason, not VAT registered yet - meaning we paid a little more than we were expecting. Of course, that may have changed by now.
  2. It has been blocked by our LEA - but teachers have access to it (they use a different port number). I am on it - and have pretended to remember a lot of people from my past as a result.
  3. That video has taken on a life of its own. If you see the other videos I make, the viewing figures linger around the 200-300 mark - but there's something about Mario that brings in the thousands. The video was actually mentioned in the last church AGM as technically the largest congregation the church has ever seen - but that was when it was at 17,000 - it's now at around 40,000 which I find a little overwhelming. I'd say 3-4 standard is a good standard to be as it means you can sit down at a piano with some degree of confidence about what notes sound nice together without being constantly asked whether you can play at someone's "special do".
  4. @Cybernerd: I imagine with a PhD like that, you must wow everyone at dinner parties. But then I'm one to talk - I'm about to start a PhD on "Kids what can't read numbers right"...or words to that effect. @Kwyjibo: Of course it counts. Can you make kids disappear. If so, what's your going rate?
  5. I would have thought climbing and shooting bonsai trees was not very satisfying - they don't move much, and they're not very tall.
  6. I assume you (or your partner) is having a baby - and not that you have some weird hobbies.
  7. I'd like to think that the three things are somehow related. How? I'm not sure. Some deep psychological issue maybe.
  8. I pride myself on the fact that I've been playing since I was 5 - yet I still can't play "Chopsticks"! I think that whether you can play or not, everyone should have a piano in their house. Alternatively, why not give the money you could have spent on a piano to someone who wants to buy a piano but can't afford it...like...err...me.
  9. A surprisingly good web-site for our region (we're a little backward around here...in the nicest possible way). Sadly, I have no skills in the brass department - I'll stick to the piano.
  10. I'm not even sure if there is 1 brass band near me, let alone 2!
  11. I was terrified.
  12. I like photography too. I'm just stopping short of trying to sell them though. Still, feel free to look at them: http://www.paktocon.com (the domain name is an abridge version of my signature below). My school hasn't quite found out that I am a grade 8 pianist as well, which is probably because I haven't told them. Considering they don't have a music teacher at the moment I spend my day feeling guilty. With the piano also comes church organ playing - a privelage I abuse somewhat:
  13. So, I'm presuming most of us here are in some way linked to the Education IT profession, and so we're all quite competent at computers. But what other talents do you have (both useful or not)? Answers on a postcard...or in the forum - probably the latter is better.

    Nagios Problem

You're right, I don't really know what you are talking about. I am just a windows user who wants to see what the hype is all about when it comes to Linux. I'm sure after a few more days of fiddling I will be a little bit more confident - but at the moment, it's like looking at Modern Art (it's there, people like it, but I just don't get it). So, as you have probably guessed, any help in this field would be great.

    Nagios Problem

That's OK - I've got it working. I copied Geoff's code (thanks). Made the necessary tweaks, and placed it in the conf.d folder as "nagios.conf" - and it worked! Now I've just got to configure the whole thing. Right now, I need a biscuit.

    Nagios Problem

So, where does the virtual host code go if there is no sites-available folder?

    Nagios Problem

Right, I'm lost - and have a horrible feeling that something may have gone horribly wrong with the installation (although the checks it did suggested that it hadn't). I can't find sample-config/nagios, but I can find a nagios.cfg file that, when opened, claims to be the "Sample main config file for Nagios" - am I right to assume this is the same thing. I also can't find a "sites-available" folder, which could either be a problem or could just show you how out-of-my-depth I am with this thing. On the plus side, I have also now found the conf.d folder - but make install-webconf was still not happy.

    Nagios Problem

I am not in any way Linux savvy, so please be kind. I have been trying to install Nagios on a machine running Fedora 6. Everything has installed fine. However, when it comes to the make install-webconf part it says "No rule to make target 'install-webconf'. I have Apache installed, but can't find the conf.d directory that is talked about - which makes me wonder whether it has been installed correctly. Anybody have any ideas what I should do? Thanks.
  19. It depends if you are virtually driving or not. After all, we wouldn't want to promoting virtual irresponsible behaviour would we?!
  20. The teacher says she owes you a virtual pint.
  21. Although I don't think I will be removing the system anytime soon (it is part of a whole software package which is amazing), on Friday the system logged 905 violations! In a school of only 440 pupils, there is clearly something not right there!
  22. It's a very basic thing she's trying to do - something I do hundreds of times - just copy a formula down a column in the spreadsheet. However, I've never known Excel refuse to do it properly. And it's just one instance of Excel, it's every copy she's tried around the school. I have tried the black square doo-dah (sorry, that's the best word I could think of), and all options that go with it, but it still didn't work. I haven't tried the F9 recovery yet, but will report back on Monday...unless she fixes it over the weekend.
  23. One of the teachers at my school is having a problem with Excel that has flumoxed me and everyone else who has attempted to help. She has put in a very simple formula (=A1+B1) which calculates fine. However when she then copies the formula down the column, the formula changes with it ok (e.g. =A2+B2, =A3+B3, =A4+B4 etc.) but it merely copies the answer from the first cell instead of running the formula. I'm sure this is really easy to solve, which is where you lot come in....!
  24. Does the reminder have to be gentle? Nothing changes peoples attitudes quite as quickly as a quick thwack to the back of the head...apparently. Erm, depends... CCTV? Witnesses? Don't worry - there won't be any.
