    Tablet PC Software

Speaking of which (well, not really, but it's my topic so I'll do what I like) do you, or anyone else, no of a way of getting a google-maps-style diagram that would enable me to view a diagram of the the school and then zoom in so that I could view individual aspects of each room (or even computer)?

    Tablet PC Software

Bizarrely, I have OneNote and started using it - organizing myself to the nines! However, after a few weeks I found I was making most of my notes on Windows Journal. Maybe I should be more disciplined.
  3. At my school I am lucky enough to have Tablet PC to help me go about my daily business. However, at the moment I really just use it as a glorified notepad, and as a means of RDP-ing into the server. Does anyone know of any good software that I could use on it to make it even more useful?
  4. I wonder if it's those who work in larger schools that get the full compliment of keys? Although my school isn't small for its area - since it's a rural school it would be considered small when compared to its urban counterpart. As a result I think the staff in our school are much more intertwined with each other, and thus fewer people have the large responsibilities (such as locking the doors). However, I can't work out if this is a good thing or not.
  5. Check out http://www.cheap-chic-weddings.com/wedding-contest-2006.html :-) My other half thanks you from the bottom... of her heart Quite a useful site and we're looking at ways to reduce the costs so all good.. thanks I, too, found the site very useful. Now all I need is someone to marry.
  6. And where exactly to you get the money to afford such a thing?! At our school, getting a key cut is seen as a needless expense when I can quite easily walk from one end of the school to the other, find the key holder, ask them for the key, go with them to get the key, walk back to the other side of the school with the key, unlock the door, retrieve the object (say, a black bin liner), lock the door, walk to the other side of the school, find the key holder, go with them to where the key should be stored, deposit the key, and the walk back to my office on the other side of the school!
  7. I've been using phpwcms as a cms for a client who wanted an easy to maintain site. It does require an SQL DB, but installs very easily. But not sure if I would recommend it since I needed to hack around in the innards to get it to behave.
  8. Day-to-day I use Partition Manager and Impero quite a lot. In particular, Impero has saved me a lot of time and effort when I need to do something small to a lot of computers - but it does come at a price (other, similar, software is available). Also a USB Drive with file recovery software and other little gizmos is very useful.
  9. I'm in a similar situation - yet I'm sure I have to lock and unlock doors more than any other member of staff. Clearly we can't be trusted.
  10. Blimey, I've taken to stealing the keys from the bursar's desk when she isn't looking. The only keys I am allowed to have permanently are those to the ICT Filing Cabinet and ICT Suites (all two of them). We used to have a padlock on a cupboard, but that was asked to be removed. I feel like our school has a different hierarchy of staff than other schools.
  11. I think the problem with that is because, in theory, I don't get paid to go in during the holidays (even though, logically, that is the best time for me to come in). So, since I'm not expected to go in, they won't allow me to go in.
  12. There's some good stuff there, but we are really looking for something fixed with more than one speaker (we had a trial with 4 speakers which worked really well). Thanks for the info though, I will add it to my pile of "useful companies".
  13. I knew it! At the moment I can't go into school at all, even though the caretaker lives on-site and it takes him approximately 30 seconds to unlock the school. Instead I sit at home making mental lists about what I'm going to do on the PD Day (oh, and reading EduGeek a lot).
  14. I have found that I look forward to the school holidays because, even though I don't get paid (unless I claim), it gives me a chance to fiddle with things without disturbing anybody. However, our school is only open for the first few days of the holiday, and then only for a few hours each day. Is this a common thing, or is my caretaker un-necessarily mean?
  15. Does anybody know of a good supplier of classroom radio mic set-ups? We are kitting out our school with these, but did not like the way we were dealt with by the supplier we were originally recommended (their name, conveniently, escapes me).
  16. Well, we have a different type of laptop (Dell D505) but there's nothing to say that it isn't the same problem. Although, I've found that the only solution is to restart the laptop completely - which makes me wonder if it is IP related.
  17. It's nice to know I'm not being an idiot (for once!)
  18. I would but a) It doesn't recognise the postcode, and b) when I get the dot somewhere close it won't let me drag it. I've tried on both IE and Firefox. Maybe my school doesn't exist!
  19. I would add myself, but for some reason it refuses to place the little spot where my school is. Any ideas?
  20. Why is it I feel guilty when I post on Edugeek in the holidays?
  21. That explains why, when I close my eyes, the computers still have problems!
  22. I would have thought that if there was a software control problem in the GPO it would affect all the computers - but it only affects 4 or 5. But I'll check it out next time I'm in. Mapping network drives manually is possible - but quite a lot of effort. The whole system is about to undergo a serious upgrade, which should solve the problem. I guess I was just wondering if there was a way that, when the computer can't find the P: drive, I would be able to trigger it's memory as it were. Thanks for your help though.
  23. Since I've started working at my school there has been a problem that has come up time and time again - it would appear that some computers refuse to load the user's Personal Folder (in our school "P:" - but most commonly "H:"). Instead it displays an empty "student" folder that the pupil can not read/write to. Even a complete restart of the computer (normally a wireless laptop) won't always solve the problem. So, does anyone know a nice solution to this problem?
  24. I've been called out because a kid couldn't access their personal files. The problem was that they had signed in as a different pupil! (A problem that would be simply solved through biometrics...but will the school listen?!)
  25. The pupils at my school can barely grasp the English language, let alone a foreign one!
