  1. Have you tried Exams > Tools > School Setup > Exam Room > (Room) > Layout tab Try adjusting the columns and rows from there.
  2. The plan (rumour) is that Capita will move Sims to cloud in 2015/16
  3. The Beta is out. Couple of nice touches - Quick Search Toolbar and Progress Grid Entry. I've heard a rumour that Capita might skip the next .Net version of FMS and move straight to Cloud.
  4. It's also useful to find out where the nearest Sims training location is to your school. LA staff may be prepared to make a couple of hundred mile round trip to access training from Capita to cascade on to their schools, but what about your admin/teaching staff? To get Capita to come out and do on site training you are lookin at around £1200 per day.
  5. If your already a Sims schools and ex grant maintained then it will only cost £200 to move to an academy. I've seen a quote for a Sims primary school (non grant maintained) to move to academy status, makes your eyes water!
  6. I was referring to running the Admin.exe on the server being only able to use 4GB of the 8 available. My point was that a single application could only access a maximum of 4GB on 32bit. This leaves 4GB for SQL and 4GB free for the OS. What are the workstation specs? If your workstations are running a shortcut to the server, then the client will run in memory on the workstation and this may be the true bottleneck and not the server.
  7. Facility shouldn't need 8GB to run BM. How have you got Facility installed? 1) SQL server + Facility - Admin.exe 2) Eportal Sever The most the Admin.exe will be able to allocated is 4GB leaving the other 4GB for the OS.
  8. Facility isn't cloud but Progresso is. New customers are going to be directed towards Progresso rather than a legacy product. Market share of MIS as of 2010 Bromcom 5 Capita 17,789 Pearson Phoenix 651 RM 2,063 Serco 1,408 Wauton Samuel 198 Other 38
  9. Of the four MIS that you are evaluating 3 of them are cloud based, with only Sims being local application based. Lots of companies talk about being able to migrate data from one system to another, seamlessly, but it’s not until after the contract is signed that you find out that this bit and that bit, didn’t come across. If your running S2 now, how much data can another MIS supplier extract from a cloud based MIS to convert to their system? Serco CMIS > Progresso (from November 2011) Bromcom Integris S2
  10. Doesn't everyone need to have Sims for that to work? If the outside agency is an FE College then they are not likely to have it.
  11. Post it, let's take a look
  12. Until the specs are finalised, it's wait and see. The bigger problem is timescales. How much notice will schools/LA's have to test and buy card(s) and then fit them to admin/SLT PC's before the product is released. There are over 10,000 pc/laptops with Sims installed in our authority, only a handful (laptops) have dedicated GC's. Not all of those 10,000 users will need Discover, but if it's say 10% do, then that's a lot of work/money to upgrade in a short time span.
  13. You need to go and create and edit you grid views under Assessment | Advanced Grid design for results entry As you can see from the screenshots below you can change the colour coding and the point value(s) that triggers each one. It isn't that hard but needs planning as to avoid missing a value out or doubling up of colours. http://i666.photobucket.com/albums/vv26/banjo789/SS.jpg http://i666.photobucket.com/albums/vv26/banjo789/Grid.jpg
  14. It can be done. You can set different points for each term within the year and different colour schemes for significantly above or just above. The advantage of this is that you don't get the majority of students 'RED' in the autumn term because they haven't reached the EOY target, well they would wouldn't they, it's only December! A couple of questions: Do you use the standard model or have you modded it to 6 assesments per term? What do you use at KS4/5 as the standard model has the wrong points value (UCAS)
  15. But when is Solus 3 available ?
  16. It should work, installed on a 64bit last week. Make sure it's fully patched with .Net frameworks first, where did it install the Sims .net folder? Program files or Program files (x86) ?
  17. Sorry to jump in, but if their not ex grant maintained then, they will need to start selling body parts to afford to re licence
  18. How do you plan to move/migrate pupils addresses into Progresso as that will use the BS7666 standard, where as Facility uses Address line? If a tool has been written for this, would it not make sense to make this available to Facility schools now so it can be run on the the existing Facility databases to move them to the BS7666 standard before migrating?
  19. From what I've been led to believe there will be an option for an LA to host and they are looking into school hosting as well, so you'd be able to run on the school's intranet.
  20. Why not just use the Extra-curricular Activity type? It would be very difficult to do in Lesson Mon if this is a ad hoc group of pupils that turn up every day, you would need 1 group with all students in it, and that would be along list to scroll up and down.
  21. You could use the BM module to record this information. You will only ever record presents and so you wont be able to work out % but you would get number of events attended per student.
  22. But this may impact on UPN's & CTF's etc. Every database that holds pupils records Whether at school (MIS), LA (Central database + internal databases), supplier (FFT etc), or national level (S2S, Edubase, Collect etc) will need recoding.
  23. Have a peek at this, it wont be in place for spring but these changes have been submitted to the CBDS for Summer ! DfE: New Local Authority Codes - January 2011
  24. It was interesting that Becta were looking at value for money from MIS and encouraging open source MIS/LP’s. Where as the DfE were responsible for most of the changes and development work required by suppliers to meet constant changes to the Census, thus making it harder and more expensive for suppliers. How much is the change in DfE code going to cost to suppliers? (then past on to schools) and to LA’s who have their own systems built around the old codes.
  25. Try to get a clear undertsanding of what type of information needs to be collected and how many times a year it needs to be inputted before you start. Are you going to assess and work in points or levels, if you are going for levels are they going to be fine levels or split fine levels etc.. Don't just work creating marksheets from a pile of paper you get given with last years results on, ask the school what they want and how they want it presented in the furture. Every minute you spend asking questions and preparing now saves days later!
