Leading off from my other post here I have another problem with booting certain computers into Thinstation. After followings RIcs instruction i get 30 working fine. I have another 16 of differnet hardware spec and they fail to boot wiith the Etherboot disk. But if i use an anywhere TS boot disk these 16 PC's boot fine. Is there a way i can install Ether boot to the HDD(tp partion and format) and then copy the files from the AnywhereTS boot disk to the partiton so they boot? Now i have no idea when it comes to Linux, i have tried reading the anywhereTS files on the floppy but windows tells me the disk needs formatting. I try to copy the contents of A: to the HD from DOS and that fails. Can any one help me please?

I have been testing thinstation on some old machines on our network and with the help of Ric i managed to get it working. The problem i have now is that i have over 100 computers from the same Manufacturer that have Realtek 8139 nics in them. When i try to re-image them now with RIS they go straight to the thinstation image and not giving me the F12 RIS option. Other computers that have SiS onbard NICS work fine and pick up RIS fine after the F12. If i remove the 'thinstation.nbi' from the DHCP options 'Boot FIle Name' then the Realtek NIC PC's work again with RIS. Surely this is not right. Is there anyone who knows of a solution to this?

Its a shame when you love your job and lets face it most of us do, other wise we would work in indusrty for the better money.

@Ric. Thanks for that pointer. I have now got my PC booting from HDD but still having problems. It stops at looking for DHCP. I have checked my DHCP scope options and the server is set in there. I did try out Thinstation so the boot file name is stillpointing to that, does this need to change? DO i need to change other settings to get it to boot?

We had this problem the first day SP2 was installed. I found a fix on the net, (will dig it out later) Can't get to your article DOS as our LEA has banned it... lol

WE too use Raid 5+ on our SiMS box. Similar to bossman its saved our bacon once already.

Installe don all 15 of our servers, only had little problem with the one that runs RIS. SiMS server is fine and so is ePortal and CMiS (so far)

What i mean is.....I have a server already running RIS, i was thinking of adding a second RIS server on the domain, that will onlt deal with the thin client stuff. If i prestage the thincleitn pc in AD then change the manages server to the pxe boot file(articcle on thinstation) then i could just use a second RIS server to manage the prestaged PC's only. Even though at the monet it would be overkill for 45 thin clients ;-)
