I'd start picking those 6 numbers now ready for Saturday's lottery.

More of being told to do it, i think its a waste of our time and resources when we have a mountain of other work to do as it is.......!

We have been looking to upgrade our Core switch and edge switches. This is a major upgrade for us so we want to get it right. We cant afford Cisco :-( so we have had a quote on 3com so far. We have started using Dell pc's/ laptops and servers over the last 12 months and we have been happy with their kit. Just wondered if anyone recommended their switches or had any experience with them?

We deployed to 250 computers last year via GPO and did not have a bit of trouble. I will check our folder permissions just out of curiosity tomorrow.

Starting setting ours up today.......... can't see the point myself.

We are in two converted toilets, still got the old tiles on the wall at the back of my desk. Room is split into two halves on is an office the other as the server room with aircon. Still smells a bit from years ago..... :-(

I think it has been more apparent over the last few weeks becasue of the influx of new members since Bett. In all good forums you get this as more and more peole join but i do thinkit will settle down again. BUt i do agre the F.A.Q and Wiki are essential to keep us all going.

Same here.

Cheers for opinions, I'll let you know what we order.

Sophos and VIsta here ona few test boxes, all it well.

Yep we are going ahead with it as well. I think for year 8's though only this time.

Anyone installed this yet?

Defo interested in this one, not sure about Easter as may be skiing.

THey do get staff trying to log onto them as work stations. I would not mind but the IT techs have a large office and wont put them in there and wonder why staff try and use them.

If only i had the time................!

Our SLT have had a couple of meetings with BSF robots and member of the LEA over the last few days. Looks like we are all doomed.......................... :-(

We are currently looking to buy a new server and would like opinions on our raid options. The servers will be a web server hosting sites/blogs/etc and possible streaming videos at a later date. We are looking at the Dell 2950 which will hold 6 discs. Our dilemma is what to do. We thought of having 2 73gb 1500rpm discs mirrored for the OS and 4 300gb SAS disc in a Raid 5 config set as full 4 disc raid or have a hot swap drive and loose a bit of storage. We cant quite decide what to do. Given the sample sec above what would you suggest for the best?

I'm wondering what suppliers you recommend for patch cables? We need some cables around 0.3 m and 0.5m (not sure if any smaller) We are trying to colour code some of our patch panels in our cabs so its easy to identify what goes where so a few good colour options would be nice..........!

As NETMAN says, we just done this recently and worked liek a charm.

DNS.................if the motherboard was replaced, did it have onbard LAN? Tell me you changed the IP when you put the new board in?

I know a school that as all 4 of its servers in the staff room............?????

thank god there were no theory tests when i took mine ;-)

Go for a Brother or a HP, personally i would steer clear fromt he Samsung (purely because i have not been impressed with the two that our office girls share)

10mb for 1700 users But it feels liek 1mb most of the time a the service is poor..very poor.
