    Smart Board

Never had one damaged in my high school but the one time it's happened at the primary we had to get a new board. They more or less said it'd cost more to send them the board, fix it and send it back than it would for a new board. As with WITCH we got the kids parents to pay.
  2. Very similar to mine although I don't replace toner unless it's a special case (like the last cartridge exploded!) I also: 1. Control the I.T. budget and am responsible for any hardware/software purchases, most major purchases have to be signed off by senior management first though. Budget varies wildly depending on what I can get out of management but averages out at about £100,000 / year. 2. Advice for local primary schools on I.T. use and infrastructure. Oddly they don't like going to the central I.T. department for this sort of thing as they rarely get decent advice. 3. Everything to do with servers, most importantly security, policies and BACKUP! 4. School websites (although the external one I'm not claiming as it's dreadful and done by ex-pupils :? Technically it's not that challenging most of the time sadly.
  3. Currently loving it, helped by the lifetime subs I just won in a competition I'm playing on the EU- english "Laurelin" RP server, community is excellent and the game is very enjoyable. Give me a shout in game if you want to team up! My character is called Nocturnal!
  4. I generally ignore kids entirely, they don't really exist unless they speak to me directly and politely, then i'm polite and apparently quite funny back. It's VERY rare for a students to be anything less than polite to me, partly because I control their internet access and by god do they know it! I'm far from popular though. Perhaps my "style" is just well developed, been working as I.T. support in schools for almost 10 years, god I feel old! I agree with those that mentioned making a stand, get to staff and get those kids in detention. You're there to do a job not be a target.
  5. only problem with the business inkjets is that some models are enormous!
  6. There's about a million sites get through our filter, I've added over 200 proxy sites in the past month!
  7. I've managed more or less to convince staff that they should be going network printer or at least to local mono laser printers. I'm more or less getting rid of all inkjets in the school other than the A3 one in CDT. A lot of staff simply do not need colour, we have 3 colour network laser printers in the school that can be used anyway. Some staff are still being stubborn but I simply don't respond as fast to them as I do to those with network or laser printers.
  8. No I see myself more of a charity than anything else jet5y :-P
  9. Localzuk - I'd say no as most of our smartboards aren't even used interactively by students anyway after about a fortnight! Even then it's expensive, £2100 is a rather daft cost!
  10. How do you get on with security on these? Are they well fitted to the monitor or can they be easily took off and stolen? They can be locked onto the monitor stand and you need a screwdriver to remove them
  11. I have 20 of the Dell ultra small form factor PCs in one of my primary schools. They're a couple of years old now but they're exceptionally well built and I've become a real fan of them! Dell do the Optiplex 745s in the ultra small form factor. Not the same as the ones you've linked too as Dell simply have the base units bolt onto the back of the monitor. It works well and frankly keeps it nice and easy for repairs and maintenance: http://www1.euro.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/optix_745?c=uk&cs=RC1050272&l=en&s=k12
  12. I don't really mind people knowing I'm a floating voter! If anyone asked me who I voted for I'd tell them straight away, as far as I'm concerned anything I post on these forums is open to the public anyway. If anyone has a problem with than then they can take it up with my employer.
  13. I was stung for almost £7000 about 4 years ago thanks to some complete barsteward in Miami. I've still no idea how he got hold of my credit card details as it has only ever been used with Paypal and the PC I used it on was clean/secure! At least banks make it fairly painless, few phone calls, new card and a few months of monitoring my account to ensure it didn't happen again.
  14. I'll never vote for a party with "Nationalist" in the title. It reminds me far too much of skinheads, racism and generally twattyness.
  15. No I think they have a way around the EU rules, we "can" order from others but we have to get it all authorised, added onto our PECOS procurement system and all sorts. In the end it'd take about 4 months to order 1 PC that wasn't on an approved list. It's insane!
  16. Definately plug both in!
  17. Would love to be able to purchase something other than Dell, Apple, HP or Compaq unfortunately the council (west lothian) restricts us to buying from authorised suppliers
  18. Students wouldn't be allowed it on my network, regardless of who owns it. If they're taking the laptop home for use there with broadband etc then I'd simply not allow it on the domain in any way. I'm not paid to support peoples private I.T. equipment, end of story.
  19. That's a fine price! Cheapest I can manage at the moment is £587 ! Definately get the warranty on HP stuff though
  20. I'm guessing he's single.. :-P
  21. Takes me 7 - 8 minutes to get to work in the morning
  22. opened it in Firefox, adblock wants to remove half the site I hate sites that link to word documents! that's OK for intranet sites but.. not for external ones surely!
  23. Well in all honest I'm not even sure where the building is I'm meant to be voting in, but if I do manage to find it I'll vote Lib Dems as there's no party in Scotland that really deserves a vote, most are absolute muppets!
  24. Yup still have a few windows 95 PCs here! In their defence they do run perfectly - as nobody is stupid enough to touch them I think the image for them including Office 97 is less than 200Mb
  25. I wish you could move Wiltshire closer to Scotland sounds like an ace team! /bump
