Also if the batteries drain completely you lose the date and time as they have no internal batteries! MacBooks are OK, I can't really see any advantage over a PC though and plenty of disadvantages from a support point of view.

Pinnacle have always been awful, I remember using version 7 which did nothing but crash and their forums were FULL of people asking for a fix. They essentially said it was going to be sorted in V8 and we just had to wait. Awful support and frankly not a great bit of software anyway.

lol! the poor guy has never seen it, partly why I was so keen on us not using it. I explained to him that he'd not like it once he was up but he muttered something about charter mark and said it was a requirement..

I would but they've all left school now! I've suggested that it's used as a project for 5th/6th year pupils doing higher computing and that if they need any help I'll gladly give them it - if it helps get rid of this thing!

Right firstly.. I had NOTHING to do with this site, NOTHING, well other than uploading it. It's a monstrocity, a waste of web server space and I campaigned for weeks for us not to use it and instead for me to sit and make a new one from scratch. It was created by two sixth years in 2006 and by god did they do a poor job. Please note: 1. the use of BMPs as graphics 2. the spam advertising on the pages 3. the annoying use of EVERYTHING 4. EVERYTHING 5. oh and lack of titles at the top. Honestly, I'm ashamed, but at the same time laughing my backside off. Prepare to be stunned. Prepared to laugh like a laughing hyena on laughing gas which just watch the Two Ronnies episode with the "four candles" joke.. http://www.westlothian.org.uk/Armadale-Ac/

hmm dessicated coconut! Oddly enough you can never find any in Tesco!

computer browser service? had a few problems with it, generally just turn it off on any computer that's not a server. Usually the culprit if you can ping a computer but can't navigate to it or use shared resources.

Well I've never enabled any sort of usb acceleration but it's always worked for me since SP1 or SP2, can't remember which. On all XP computers I've used, at home or work. If you copy a file then immediately remove it you may have a problem but if you wait a few seconds and remove it, it's fine.

I can't think of any real reason to have it especially with staff. However as it's XP there's no real need to end the process to eject usb sticks, at least I never have, pull them out and it should be fine. I think it handles the way it saves slightly differently to 2000.

Ignore me :-D talking out my bottom apparently!

Well Plexer sent me over a script that looks top notch but sadly it looks like either our e-mail server requires authentication or it simply doesn't accept requests of this type. I added in the code required for authentication but it's being knocked back although I know the details are correct! Would setting up a local SMTP server work and using this to send work? I added this code into the script but it errors with "error '80040211' " and the line it indicates is the password (which I know is right and is unencrypted!) myMail.Configuration.Fields.Item ("http://schemas.microsoft.com/cdo/configuration/smtpauthenticate") = 1 'basic (clear-text) authentication myMail.Configuration.Fields.Item ("http://schemas.microsoft.com/cdo/configuration/sendusername") ="**************" myMail.Configuration.Fields.Item ("http://schemas.microsoft.com/cdo/configuration/sendpassword") ="******"

I'd love to try it as a long time MMORPG fan but not sure I have the time, between work, organising selling my house and getting the fiancee to ditch a lifetimes worth of CR@P she's accumulated I've got my hands full. Oh and boobies, I have to have boobies! They're more fun than any game! :-D

Pretty nice views here and we're getting a new school built further up the hill so they'll only get better. Mostly fields, hills and mountains as we're right on the edge of town (and civilisation). If I could change one thing about the school it would be more air con units in the rooms. There's some rooms here that just get stupidly hot the instant the sun shines, partly due to Mr sun but also due to our ancient storage heaters!

Cheers guys, you're a wealth of knowledge as always! I'll probably go with Limbo's suggestion, purely due to time restrictions although I will probably get linux up and running later in the year (if I'm still working here!) as my last linux box went BANG in January

What am I meant to do?! (Windows 98 user problem)
Halfmad replied to SteveB_NI's topic in General Chat
I had to remove winlock off about 60 PCs here. Make up a floppy disk with poledit and some configs for poledit on it, boot to safe mode and unlock the computers. Once that's done it's fairly straight forward. You're best using your time to ditch winlock as it'll just keep coming back to bite you. I can't really go into more detail as I don't have it on any PCs here anymore but I do still have my famous luminous yellow floppy disk! -
Well the latest news is that they managed to recover about 50% of the data although not all of it is usable. They went the cheap option and bought software rather than getting a firm in who promised at least 70% recovery would be usable.. although they did quote £14,000 to try. I doubt anyone will be taken to task over it, this council really is poor for cracking down on staff. Having said that I bet I get fired for posting this! :-D

Hi chaps, I'm at home pondering work (as usual) and thinking that it'd be damn handy to have a little form on our intranet for staff to submit jobs to me. Essentially they put in thier name, classroom and problem, hit submit and the form e-mails me. Anyone know what the requirements would be to have something like this working? I've using 2003 server with IIS6 I think at work. I'm guessing it'd probably have to be done with either CGI or PHP scripts. Would I have to have an e-mail address for the form to use to send e-mails or has the cider started to kick in and I'm talking drivel (again). ?

No problem mate, next time include more detail in your original post you bloody newbie!

Well I just decided to opt for alternative http ports instead of messing about with my AV software! Thanks for all your help Halfmad!

Naimserv.exe Looks like Epolicy orchestrator is using port 80! bleh!

looks like I'll have to give this a shot as my event viewer event ID kicked it up: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/890015

Windows 2003 servers I want to use one of them to host the staff intranet. I've setup the site in the IIS Manager but when I start the site it states: "The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process" I've checked the ports in use with netstat -ano and the only thing running on port 80 is PID 6060 which is IIS ! Any suggestions? I can run it on another port but I'd rather have it on 80. I had thought about it being AV or even the indexing service but the indexing service is disabled and I've put exceptions in on the AV, plus it's not blocking any ports. Even tried it with AV disabled. I've tried a few MS fixes but none seem applicable as they mention faulty registry entries, none of which I have.

That's why I take my filters off and blast the air out of the filters

the yahoo one was preventing any user logging into our proxy at one point, right old pain in the bottom. No idea what installed it but seemed to creep onto one of my images!

How was it recieved? if she/he didn't send it then there's very little you can do, if she/he did then I'd probably take it further, it is almost a threat but the last thing you should really do is get into a conversation with them over it. You don't have the time to and frankly you don't need to justify you're position or the work you do!
