  1. I asked on a few forums about doing the CCNA with the OU etc and was more or less advised to get a decent book, emulator and then just pay for the exam when I was ready, far cheaper and no pressure to do it in X number of months. This was the set of books I was looking at getting, comes with a switch simulator etc: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cisco-CCNA-Network-Simulator-Self-Study/dp/1587201313/ref=pd_bbs_sr_8/203-5559503-4978305?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1176753253&sr=8-8
  2. Oi William start looking for jobs for me in Scotland for god sake I could do without the 1 hour commute every morning!
  3. Sounds like most people are on comparible wages to my own, just saying that I know people doing a similar job to that who earn £30,000-£35,000. Dan -if you know the school then that makes a huge difference, go for it. For someone else looking at that job title I'd be slightly put off by the number of requests compared to the salary. Not saying I couldn't do it - I simply get paid more for doing less as it is, although granted I have more responsibilities than the advertised job.
  4. In all honesty for the money offered it's quite a demanding role, I expected the cap to be around £30,000 or a tad more. Decent enough job though.

    Printer Script

I have a similar script that removes printers and then adds new ones based on location (taken from the computers container OU) works a treat here. PM me if you'd like to see it, made with a lot of help from the edugeek folks
  6. Netsupport school could do that for you in a second, although you'd have to manually have to tell it to log them on using X username and Y password. Alternatively make a user account that only works at a very limited time (when the classes are on) and has very tight restrictions, then set it with an easy password (pupil/pupil) etc. There's no harm in it if you restrict it and lock the times down.
  7. Mine (I'm the only one here too) 1 Secondary: 410 PCs ranging from windows 95 to XP 70 iMacs (OS 9.04 to OSX) 44 Projectors 36 Smartboards 14 Network printers 21 local printers 8 digital cameras 1 digital video camera 4 Windows 2003 Servers running AD 3 websites (two internal and one external) I also have to visit primary schools and give advise up to 1 day a week and do any emergency repairs the same day if they call me in the morning. SMT honestly don't understand why I've asked for a technician to help me..
  8. No problems here, I use a script that looks at the OU the computer is in and assigns printers accordingly at user logon. Not had any issues with these ones yet and we've got two running in separate rooms, about 42 PCs using the pair of them.
  9. Yup I've done that for our two stand alone licenses, although annoyingly I needed to call up and get codes for them to work.. so much for the 20+2 license scheme our vendor was offering, was an absolute pain to get details out of them, intially they denied it existed even though it was on the invoice!
  10. report the experience to both the LEA and the company directors. then get you hands on a board and replace it yourself, its the only way it'll be done quickly.
  11. server side scripts and logon scripts etc, I know anyone that replaces me will have trouble figuring these out so WHEN I leave I'll document them all.
  12. you could give this a whirl: http://www.pcinspector.de/Sites/smart_recovery/info.htm?language=1 Last time I used it the program was completely free. I've used the PC recovery version of it a few times (PCInspector) and it's ace.
  13. I'd rather have a small Dell laptop, think it was an X300 we had before, ace little computer, even came in a little briefcase!
  14. I like the current one but a change might be nice! I'd make it all lower case though!
  15. put simply you can't and will have to make a new MSI if you didn't have the server up and running when you initially deployed it. I didn't find it that hard but the interface is an absolute horror to use as there's lots in it you simply don't go near!
  16. Ravening_wolf perhaps this will help, I recently installed the same product (royal pain in the behind it is too). Problem is that the network path you give it is what it uses in the MSI, so if you create the MSI in \\staff\msi\cad then move it to \\staff\inventor11 it won't work. Fortunately I stalled the department until the summer holidays then imaged the suite, but I have used the MSI 3 times so far and it works.
  17. Oh nice one Geoff, I was just about to ask the same thing Rob!
  18. One of the most amusing threads we've had on here I think !
  19. I'll try and write one when I get a chance mate, up to my eyeballs at work at the moment
  20. I feel a certain level of sarcasm in this thread but can't quite put my finger on it... Hold on, took a step back and realised it's the WHOLE THREAD!
  21. I used winimage to insert my ghost files into a bootable image and burn it. I don't actually convert them. More recent ones I've made using Roxio easy CD creator suite, no convertion just drag, drop and burn after telling it to make a bootable DVD.
  22. I have images that span multiple DVDs (one of my images is 12Gb!) and they work fine, it's just split into 2Gb sections by Ghost. What exactly is the problem you're having? My first disk has the GHO file and the ghost exe, USB drivers, CD/DVD drive drivers and also network boot drivers (if needed - can select from startup menu). Works a treat and I can use any of my DVD images to boot the computers ready for USB ghosting or multicast too.
  23. I hate to admit it (as I hated most of season 1) but that episode was very funny
  24. Yeah that was one of my initial thoughts so I took one home, PC, laptop and even my Wii wouldn't connect to it - same problem. In the school I've tried it on 3 different models of Dell laptop and with 3 different wireless desktop PCI cards. perhaps there's a common chip manufacturer in there but doubt it. The thing is the drop seem to almost be in time with the contant on/off of the WAN light on the access points!
  25. Trekmad I know how annoying it is to be let down like this by a company who you've given plenty of notice (and money) to. Happens every year to me by one contractor or another. You just have to accept that sometimes the companies simply can't do it any faster and remind them the next time you use them just how badly the messed up previously. Ultimately with me if they mess up twice then I simply stop sending business their way.
