Hi i was wondering if anybody knew of some free software which i could run on the network to find out what ports are being used by which pieces of software or PC's.

no the hidden share is on the root folder to the year group. the problem is when you just change the number in the address bar to access the new users home drive. if you do it by changing the folder name in the address bar you get that error message, but if you click the back button and then click on the folder it allows you in. the problem is that each year group holds about 20 folders so it takes about 10 seconds to bring the list up again before you can then browse to the folder that you want and then go in to it to find the work that you want to look at. It adds about another 30 seconds on to each piece you want to look at which when your doing large groups is a real pain. i was wondering if it could be a GPO setting or something?? do you know of any config file that can stop you from doing this??

Hi, i resantly moved over to mandatory profiles and everything is great except for one thing. when i use windows explore to go to a certain file i cant get there if i type it in to the address bar but i can if i go there by clicking? e.g. if i was in u:\users\200001 and i want to get to u:\users\200002 you would normally just delete the 1 in the address bar and then type 2 and hit enter and go there but it doesnt?!? so i have to click back load up all the users folders again and then click on the 200002 folder and it will let me go in!?! any ideas?

Hi I have a network of about 200 users and 500 PC's. i user ranger on all of my curriculum PC's which is about 400 give or take. Logon times can vary from 1 minute to 2 and a half minutes. i know that the gap will depend on a lot of things, but i was just wondering what other peoples log on times are like?? and if this is an exceptable time for logon or not? we use roming profiles but the students cant change theirs. I also have PCE installed on the network.

Hi i am having problems with loads of trash packets being sent to the default gateway which then slows the network right down. our isp / lea people are saying that they are getting loads of packets from the following address 127.0.0.1 obv this is the address that you ping to check the local nic so i cant just do a quick search for it and then go and kill the device. or is there??? this is causing the network to slow down and causing the internet to freeze and hang also i have noticed lag in exploring the network caused by this back log of packets on the line. at the moment im switching off a building at a time and then having to call them back to see if they are still getting the packets. this work can only be done out of hours and only till 6pm as they go home so as you can guess this is a very slow!! does any one know of a faster way of doing this or how i can search to find out where this is coming from??
